<sigh> First for the first time EVER!!! On a Midnight Sun post. Huzzah!!

Well this is somewhat unrelated but I'll say it here anyways, concerning Summit's Taycob-fest:

I think Rob has been so successful because he doesn't fit into a glossy mold that's permeated Hollywood since the late 90s; neither does Kristen. For the last ten years, every actor, singer, dancer, entertainer has had this glossy sheen about them: they sing, dance, act, entertain to ENTERTAIN rather than to INSPIRE or to EXPRESS an IDEA or to ENLIGHTEN our society. But Robsten seem to have this pure outlook on their work as if it is ART rather than a money machine; and that SINCERITY translates to everything they do. Hollywood's been sorely lacking in the sincerity department recently and these two are really filling in the holes.

I don't get that sincerity from Taylor. Because he's read the scripts and he's cooperating with Summit (as any young actor would do), it's hard to tell how he really feels about anything. And I'm not saying that Taylor is not as sincere and as much of an artist as Robsten are. He's just scripted, which is why the NM promo will be brutal.You don't really get a sense of Taylor's identity from any of his interviews and I think that's an underlying reason why the Team Jacob promos have annoyed so many people.

Because even though Kristen mumbles and fidgets and can't complete a sentence coherently, at least that's REAL. When Taylor does his sheepish smile and bashfully boasts about his weight gain, it's tainted by Summit and undeniably FAKE.

I don't blame him for boasting though...If i worked that damn hard day after day for a role I wasn't even sure I was keeping, I would too! Lol!

Plus he is loved by Kristen, Nikki, Rachelle etc so that says something about him.

Yes, his hard work is admirable. He did a great job and is a fine actor, in my opinion.

It seems that he is a good guy. Everyone in the cast seems to genuinely like him. He and Rob seem to get along even better than Taylor and Kristen.

Right. I'm not saying Taylor's a snore and a half, I'm saying Summit's tainting him and it's not right.

I'd like to know Taylor Lautner not Taycob Lautner.

What exactly have summit to do with it? They are a production company. The director makes all the decisions along with the agents for the best interest of the movie.

Summit are a tiny movie studio who we are lucky optioned twilight before Disney did.

They aren't a big bad wolf... I really don't get what you are trying to say at all.

How could you ask what Summit has to do with this? Did you see the Team Jacob teaser trailer? Did Taylor's agent sit and edit that for the masses? No, Summit did.

Summit is the big bad wolf who I think optioned Twilight because they knew Stephenie had a loyal cult following. Cult following means big bucks. I'm sure they really enjoyed the books too but considering how they marketed Robsten nearly shamelessly last year screams how a huge percentage of their interest in this project was based on profit rather than art. It did start from a little place and no one knew it would become a franchise but Summit had to know it would make a solid chunk of change.

Now there's nothing wrong with wanting to make money but when it comes promoting these films and these actors, it would help if someone (Summit, Taylor's managers, the directors, Taylor's football, whoever) decided that it was time for Taylor to be unscripted. That's all I ask, really.

OK, maybe Taylor is a boring guy. Maybe he's too young and doesn't have an identity yet. Maybe he doesn't know how to handle the press and saw the easy way out by memorizing the "30-pound" script that he created in his head all alone in his hotel room before his first NM interview. You can have that opinion, but I don't.

And honestly, I'm not claiming that my opinion is reality. I have no idea what Summit does and unless you have insider information about the production company that the rest of us don't, then you don't either.

Finally, I can dog Summit or any indie studio I want. This is a message board. Please don't police my ideas. Thanks!

Taylor has been given an amazing leg up by getting the role of Jacob, he wasn't recast when he probably should have been. That's all Summit too. Funny how when it's stuff you like - rob and kristen freedom in interviews etc - it's not summit but if you dislike something - taylors bland Hollywood answers - then that's Summit!

If I do feel that Summit's Big Brother on Taylor and not Robsten, it's because I recall how much freer the Twilight promotion was compared to the NM promotion. For instance, take Comic Con 08 and contrast it with Comic Con 09. Neither Taylor nor Robsten were given the liberties this year to be themselves. That event set the tone to Summit's approach marketing this cast and I don't think it's fair that Taylor has top billing with Kristen and doesn't seem to have as many liberties as Rob had with Twilight.

Finally, if this is about being fair and balanced where Summit is concerned, then I promise I'll be the first to praise them when they do something right. TEAM SUMMIT!!!

I am probably being a bit ansy, and it probably isn't fair on you. I am getting really irritated at how this lovely website has gone from somewhere to get excited over Twilight movies to somewhere that is just a heaving pile of negativity and conspiracy theories. I look through the comments and I wonder why all the hate? Movies want to make money, actors want to make money. Actors want movies to make money because thats what makes them more money.

Taylor is more 'stage school' than Kristen and Rob but I can't see where Summit come into that... he was like that before.

As for praising them when they do something right? Em... they optioned Twilight and saved it from Disney - TICK, I can go on and on... They gave Taylor the chance to play Jacob again when really he should have been recast, they hired Chris Weitz... and on and on...

Why not choose real issues to gripe about? Why pick on movies? Its just entertainment...

Didn't know I was being funny but OK.

I think that Rob and Kristen show us a very refreshing, real approach to promoting their work as actors. They do seem to look as their acting as "art" rather than just "product", and are hesitant to put out their music (although we would encourage them to do so!) because they don't want to sellout their souls. You rarely see the likes of them in Hollywood.

I think Taylor is a very talented young man who has yet to come into his own. He is still a minor, still following the script. He is also at a disadvantage as Summit kept him under their thumb by putting it out their that they were courting other actors to play his role of Jacob in New Moon. They made it very clear to him and to everyone else that he could be replaced, It shows his determination and hard work ethic that he would rise to the occasion, do the workouts, put the weight on and show them that the part belonged to him.

Summit has not always promoted this series correctly. They have some really beautiful, talented actors...no need to try to put a phony spin on them. They should just put them out there and Let Their Lights Shine!

Its like we are in a time warp and arrived in the fifties when the studios totally owned everything you did and everybreath you take. The studios would send actors and actresses from different TV shows or movies on "play dates" or on fake dates to promote how bubblegum or sweet they are. They are trying to pull Kristen and Robs strings and that stinks. I agree that Summit has not guided their actors the proper way when they are the most talented and up and coming young thespians today.

I couldn't agree more. Edward's character is so dark and dynamic. His ability to read minds gives you so much more of a look at what is going on in scenes of the book too. His point of view is my favorite to work with when making videos. I am so glad you like my Midnight Sun series.

Yes, thank you for wording that so well. It's so nice to just see people act the sake of acting and not for the sake of the fame and fortune that may or may not come along with it. I truly believe that any of these actors/actresses would have been just as happy to play these characters without all of the fame... they took the roles in Twilight under that exact pretense. They didn't have a clue. They just liked the story and wanted to do a great job bringing it to the big screen. Bless them for that! I think every one of these individuals is very talented and were very well chosen for their roles. Many thanks Stephenie for maintaining her belief that Taylor is the right Jacob. He has the right heart for the role... and (thankfully for us) he's now got the bod to go with it!

OK. on to the matter at hand... I absolutely loved, loved, loved these videos!!! Edward's character is so complex. Midnight Sun was really like a glimpse into the "soul" of his character for me... and I adore it!

The intensity of his desire to kill her, and his desire to love her.... and him, carefully balancing it all, dealing with it, suffering through it, ignoring it, fighting it... just to keep her safe; even before he knew he loved her.

Some of you may think I'm crazy, but the only thing I want MORE than ANY of these books being brought to the big screen is the completion of Midnight Sun, and any (or all) other part of the series that Stephenie would like to write from his perspective.

I am running out of manuscript, but I think I can pull enough quotes and make quotes based on how his character's dialogue is written, to go ahead and finish the entire series instead of stopping where the manuscript ends. I'm still contemplating it. =)

Ok so here is my take on this subject.
I totally agree with you on Robsten. They are VERY genuine and you can see very clearly that they love acting for ACTING and not for MONEY. I like how they just break the rules, lol. And I honestly think that's why so many people trash Kristen. She doesn't choose to conform to the norm in Hollywood. She hasn't changed herself just so that people will like and and show she can mix in with the rest of Hollywood. She is HERSELF. Yea, she may not have great charisma or speak elequently, but who really does? She is kinda representing the common people. And that's why she's so inspiring and why I love her because she is DIFFERENT. Same thing with Rob. They are mixing things up.

As with Taylor, I agree partially. I feel that he has shown himself, but there is still more to come. Taylor has amazing charisma and sorts. I don't see him in interviews as fake. He is very talented, but he still has more of his true self to shine. And he doesn't boast about his muscles. He explains politely about his weight gain and the whole process. But it's not like he is boasting about them at all. He is just simply replying and answering. It's not his fault because every single interviewer asks him the same damn question about his muscles, so what else can he do but answer? I can feel Taylor's sincerity. He still needs to show a little more of his identity, but he's only 17. Yes, Kristen was 17 while making Twilight, but Kristen is just very mature for her age, and you can see that she knows her true self more than most people her age. But I am really tired of everyone blaming Summit for everything. I think that it has to stop. You don't know if Summit is feeding Taylor lines. Maybe that's just how Taylor wants to be in interviews. THere is nothing wrong with that. It doesn't make him boring or not sincere. People complain constantly "Summit this, and Summit that, and blah blah blah" and I admit that I was one of those people. But most people don't actually understand or begin to think about the actually positive things about Summit. All the focus is on the cons. I have realized not to complain so much, and to try to appreciate. I am almost done reading The New Moon Movie Companion, and I have gained so much more appreciaiton for the people at Summit. Reading the movie companion has allowed me to gain understanding on how much work and what they have to do and go through to make a movie that we want. And honestly, the Twilight fanbase isn't so perfect. Everyone bashes Summit, but we don't realize our own flaws.

Wow, I completely agree. Rob and Kristen are real and don't pretend or act like anything other than themselves. In Taylor's interviews, I don't really see anything besides what's on the surface, but with Kristen and Rob, you can really see that they're just normal people who just so happen to be hollywood's main interest. Taylor smiles and does everything that summit wants him to do and that is one of the main reasons why I can't take him seriously.

i think that may have been the smartest thing i ever heard...you are totally right. Like i'll give props to taylor but not big props. I still think the 2 main characters in new moon are rob and kristen. They have pretty much almost evened it out between rob and jacob in new moon. Taylor seems like a nice kid, but i think he likes the attention to much and well i hope he doesn't develop an ego. He is the perfect jacob and people want to say how great of a job he did in new moon but in all actuality his part is probably the easiest of all to play. His emotions that he has to portray aren't as deep. Half the time he gets to act just like a normal teenager which probably doesn't even feel like acting to him. When it all comes down to it, this franchise revolves around rob and kristen. You can be team jacob all you want, but im pleading with young girls out there dont say your all of a sudden team jacob cuz jacob grew some muscles. Muscles mean nothing. In all actuality, the real fans of the book should be team switzerland cuz when you get to the end of the series, you realize that everybody got their way and everybody ended up friends. Well thats all i got to say; 17 days left.

These are so well made! I have been a fan of these Midnight Sun videos for a while and anxious await each new installment.

The story is riveting told from Edward's point of view. He is so intense! I think Bella's point of view is interesting, but seems almost passive in comparison.

I really wish Stephenie Meyer would put her heart back into the Twilight saga and finish this book. I feel that it is a story that needs to be told in it's entirety.

Me too! I guess when we don't have a book (yet) fan videos can do...for a while. I still feel sorry that she didn't write MS at the same time she did Twilight, or at least before the movie was done. I always had this idea of Twilight and MS together...the movie would be much better and we would understand everything better.
When I read the chapter on her site the first time I was so excited. I can't imagine what would happend if we had the entire book!
It would be such a shame if she didn't finish the book. I still hope she's maybe working on it. I can understand that she doesn't want to talk about it or reveal her progress if there is any...but I hope she'll surprise us.

I have a deep dark feeling that SM is done with Midnight Sun. She said somewhere that if nobody mentioned it to her for a few years then maybe she would get back into it. Just don't see that happening.

Yes please, on the follow up to Breaking Dawn! I completely agree! I think she has so much she can do with what she set up. She could write about or from any or all of these character's perspectives:

Jacob/ Renesmee/Nahuiel (spelling?, don't have my book with me)
Leah/Sam/Emliy and then just Leah (after Breaking Dawn)
Carlilse/Esme's story
Bree

I wrote them in order of which ones I thought would be most intersting.

what's so frustrating about the saga is that edward's the other half of the heart and soul of twilight and yet there's no EPOV ??!! so we're still hoping that ms. meyer will have a change of heart and grant the wish of millions of twilight fans to be able to glimpse into mind of THE Edward Cullen :))

I watched the first clip, and I really think it's great and I agree with a lot of comments on here... but I totally support and respect SM's requests and have NOT read Midnight Sun posted online and since these 4 video clips take some stuff from her material etc etc.... I just cannot bring myself to watch them all. I'm really banking on SM to one day finish the book so I can buy it, read it, enjoy it, and feel zero regret or remorse...... plus, it's not finished!! So not fun! I can't be left hanging....!!!! It's hard though, resisting it all....

Stephenie Meyer herself posted what she had written of Midnight Sun on her website for her fans to read after it was leaked. I can understand if you don't want to read it in hopes that she will one day complete it and you can be surprised with the finished product. However, I enjoy reading it and am glad she decided to let us read it as she had put the project on indefinite hold.

I join you in hoping she will one day pick this project back up and finish it.

if you read on her website, she isn't encouraging fans to read it, just posting it herself in response to the leak, i guess to be in control of her own material. SM says: "I'd rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun." i personally just cannot bring myself to read it. i know lots of people have.... i just can't.

I thought I watched all the extras ... guess not. I was like: "Whoa!" when I saw it. It really would have been nice to have seen Edward's side in the movie, then maybe it might not have seemed quite so rushed. Oh well, at least some day we might have the rest of MS.

Yes, I believe I have. I liked it. As a matter of fact, I have read a great deal of fanfiction in the past few months and have enjoyed a lot of it. Much of it is very well-written and I don't think I have ever on my life read so much steamy goodness as I have in fanfiction. It is my new, favorite addiction.

New Moon is my favorite book of the four...Midnight Sun would have changed that..

Now that I'm off my first-high. I've got to say the 2nd video at 1:52 on was SOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FILM. If only CH knew how to use slow motion to her advantage.

It's pretty bad when a fan made youtube video is better than your movie. Maybe we should have this fan redo the Twilight movie for us.

You know, in rewatching these videos again just now I kind of had an epiphany. Kind of obvious, but I never said I was fast!

Catherine Hardwicke shot his footage, she could have made the movie like this. It's all in the editing! What a different movie could have been if she would have varied the point of view, added in some of the cut-out footage and included the Edward stuff from Midnight Sun.

The main complaint I've heard from other people outside my Twilight bubble is that the acting is kind of bland--I don't see that here at all. Rob and Kristen especially shine in these scenes and the slow and fast action is really makes the scenes pop!

Yes, these videos really represent the best of Twilight and Midnight Sun and definately showcase Rob/Edward and Kristen/Bella.

I could go all day long on this, but I will try to be brief. Firstly, I thought Rob and Kristen were the bright points of the film. No one can deny that Rob IS Edward. He got him. I thought his portrayal was brilliant. I am biased on Kristen. I thought she was great too, but she didn't BRING it like I know she can.

CH's direction. Wow. The meadow scene is the one of the film that ticks me off the most. She could have done so much with it, but the overuse of the close ups and then moving the camera around why they are having this intimate revealing conversation. It could have been so much more compelling and heartfelt. But she completely ruined it.

Like the dinner scene. I don't mind close ups, but why over use that there. It would have been so much better to include both of them in a few shots to share a staring moment or Edward grabbing her hand or maybe pushing a strand of her hair away. So many intimate details that CH missed.

Her creativity was definitely lacking and disappointed me.

I guess from what Catherine said on the DVD commentary, the meadow scene was like an afterthought to her. She almost forgot to shoot it and put it in the movie "Oh, no. We're in LA now--let's find a golf course and have them lay down and scatter fake flowers around--everyone will think it's a meadow."

I don't think that I had a problem with CH until I heard her on the commentary and how she came up with her ideas and put the film together. She just did not get it .. AT ALL.

Now, I listen to CW and his interviews and his ideas on how he made NM and I want to full on kiss him on the mouth because I feel that he GETS it. He understands what the fans want and love about the series.

Even though I'm a fan, it is the editing in Twilight that makes me want to scream at points. When their lips don't match the words... some on! Unlike a lot of other people I could care less about a better sparkle effect. Just get the sound editing right, please.

Yes, I do love the Twilight movie. I must still watch it at least once a week. I do see the flaws, though. It could be so much more. Yes, the editing...sound...continuity issues...the makeup...the "sparkle?"...the lack of a real "meadow scene" Many things could have been improved on.

True, but it seems to me that Lucasfilm should be very embarrassed to see Industrial Light and Magic up there on the credits of this film for special effects. Even if there was not much money, shouldn't a little thing like professional integrity matter to a high profile special effects company like that?!

Haha .. yeah I guess that's true. Some things we can accredit to the poor budget, but I will never give CH credit for anything just based on her budget. There have been many a indie film that has moved me to tears and applause because of their direction, creativity, editing, etc. She's just lucky I happened to be a Twilight fan.

WOW, that has got to be one of the best videos of seen in a while. I loved the Black, white and gray tones, really gave it that extra "umph" to the whole story *hint hint CH*.
