Taylor Lautner, 17 years-old on last February 11st, has a true passion for actor profession that begin just after elementary school. Teenager messy black hair, high cheekbones, looks like a native American, from Ottawa and Potawomi tribes, Michigan’s ones, although – he precifies – he’s half-blood german-dutch from his father’s family.
Before becoming last teenagers heartbreaker all over the world, he follows the routine of “climbing Hollywood Olympus”, beginning with cereals spots, then some little roles in TV sit-coms (“ The Bernie Mac Show” and “My wife & kids”) notice him to Studios. “I always was a sport passionate, when I was child I did everything, baseball, football, martial’s, athletics. Growing up I realize that if I wish to have success I had to focus my attention to two or three activities, and so I decided to continue with karate, becoming black belt at 11 and winning Junior World Championships at 12. Football is my favorite sport, in addition to hip hop dance and break dance, I was member of LA Hip Kids, and I was on always different stages. And so I learnt to win my fears about audience. His Californian karate coach persuades him to do his first audition. “In the beginning I thought that wasn’t my world, I was concentrated to sport, then, I often was in LA, training or for competitions, I decided to try, and that audition was my luck because I was chosen for an advertising. It was love at first sight, I fell in love with set atmosphere, every aspect of production and also all the troupe professionalism. When I came back home I found my family support, so we moved to LA to continue my adventure.”
First movie role come with Disney’s “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl”, directed by Robert Rodriguez, committed at the same time with “Sin City”. “Although I knew the comics, I was 13, I appreciated Robert above all as author and director of “Spy Kids” and I heard about his love working with kids because, a part from being videogame addicted, he was full of ideas and energy. The idea for the movie started from his son Racer, who I met during audition and I want to thank him, because I gave me the opportunity doing all my stunts, above all karate ones, product of years of trainings that I could finally show to everyone.” Next role is in “Cheaper by the dozen 2”, with Steve Martin, his favorite comic actor. “I always liked him, but after meeting him I understand his huge professionalism in this job, a true inspiration for who, as me, is beginning. I think being an actor is also exploring other ways of life, becoming someone else, although for some month, changing skin, exploring my imaginary and at the same time learning what school doesn’t.
After a short hiatus, he receive a call from his agent, the classic changing-life-phone call. “Just before my 16th birthday, here coming “Twilight” audition, with Catherine Hardiwicke, who I admired for “Lords of Dogtown”, metropolitan skate gods. I absolutely don’t know the book, but since our first meet I hoped to get the role to work with her. I was re-called for a chemistry reading with Kristen Stewart to check if we match on the screen, luckily, we had a good feeling and after two weeks I got the role. After this, I studied, read some books about the topic, and I immediately understood what it could happen to me, although I can’t expect so huge success and affection from fans. I even met some “elderly” ladies who want signing some underwear; so we all was surprised from this phenomenon.” Despite world success, Taylor risked to lose his role in sequel “New Moon” directed by Chris Weitz (coming 20th November), because his character, the werewolf, Jacob Black, is giant. “After finished first movie, and read all the books, I realized that if I would continue to being part of the cast I had to change diet, build, and beef up. I had 5 days per week of weights, avoiding aerobics otherwise you can’t put on weight, although my trainer give me Michael Phelps’ diet, and so you have to eat every two hours. It was really hard to strengthen, above all because it was a continuous cycle supply, but in the end between gym and protein smoothies I could get 18 kilos, I had to change my wardrobe, including my favorite jackets.”
Typing his name on Google we get hundreds of link, blogs, websites which list and speculate about apparent vices, virtues and presumed girlfriends. “I can confirm you I like to be elegant, although what I wear have to be comfortable. I like Cohesive polo, I love leather jackets, 50’s jackets, I’ve just got the driving license, I drive a Bmw and instead to chat on Facebook I prefer playing football with friends, also when they joke me because I arrive in white shirt. Another passion? I’m a “carnivore”, not only on the screen, I love streaks, especially T-Bones!”. Being a good werewolf, he is a Michigan Wolverines’ fan, he admits having a weak with Jessica Alba, adores “Bourne” trilogy, and would like to work with Matt Damon, Denzel Washington and Ridley Scott. Two of his favorite movies are “Braveheart” and “Iron Man”. “I’m a fan of U2, who I’ll see this autumn in Vancouver during “Eclipse” filming, third Twilight Saga movie. But if I have to dance, I prefer Black Eyed Peas. And , if you want, I’ll tell you I’m really sorry about not yet coming to Italy; I’ve also asked to Stephenie Meyer to add a little epilogue in the end of the first book, but nothing has changed.”
