chris-weitz-new-moon_lEntertainment Weekly has a new, and awesome, interview with New Moon director Chris Weitz.

In the interview Chris is very clear that New Moon was made for the FANS, not the critics.

It is probably one of my favorite Chris Weitz interviews. He is honest, sincere, and doesn’t hold anything back -

What was your biggest fear going into [opening] weekend?
CHRIS WEITZ:
I didn’t have any particular fears. The tracking numbers were enough to indicate that I wouldn’t be letting the studio down. But if one could imagine their biggest fears, it would be complete rejection of the movie, by the fans. What I’ve realized over the last week is I won’t necessarily get good reviews for this movie. Having swallowed that, this was made for the fans, and if you don’t get it, then you don’t get it.

Did the negative reviews surprise you?
Nothing surprises me in terms of reviews. Having been a reviewer myself, there are only two ways to spin this story. You can either be the one guy who says this is a great movie, or more likely, take a more jaundiced view of the whole thing. And given the media blitz that has accompanied New Moon, it’s rather unsurprising. I do wish there was more appreciation for cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe. I think he’s a genius and I think he made something beautiful.

A lot of fans say they like the movie more than the book, that New Moon was their least favorite book in the series.
New Moon takes a lot of time to read and you have a lot of time without Edward in the picture. And here in the compressed scenario of the movie, there is less time without RPatz. And the fact that Taylor [Lautner] does such a great job, to the reading audience who’s been very skeptical of him, here he is in the flesh, and it’s quite something.

What do you think is Taylor’s best scene?
When he jumps into Bella’s room. There is so much pathos there even though it’s melodrama, there’s something touching about it. Or maybe the last moment he has, just when he says Bella’s name. You sort of understand just how crushed he is at that moment. There are a few times where he’s absolutely that guy and it’s really lovely. He’s that guy for the fans and that’s what I always thought he could do.

Do you think Kristen evolved as an actor in this movie?
I’m not sure she evolved as much as she had room to run. She’s a thoroughbred as far as actors go. To me, she can do know wrong. The experience of working with her and the caliber of work she was doing was pretty extraordinary. Let’s put aside girl in love with a vampire, her ability to manifest these emotions below the surface, above the surface just to get things right. She’s extraordinarily exacting of herself and in those moments where I was able to give her the room to do that are things I’m very proud of.  That’s a high point.

You made the movie you wanted to here?
Yes, pretty much. In terms of what I wanted to do with the gloss of the picture, the look of the picture, I’m very satisfied with it. And satisfied to touch back with the crew and the actors and to feel we made it under humane conditions as well. No actors were harmed in the making of this movie.

What about dealing with the paparazzi? Did you have any run-ins?
I did a bit of a Sean Penn at LAX. When we were leaving for the European tour. We had left from our L.A. press junket to go to LAX and someone nearly ran us off the road trying to get to one of the cars. We were followed by eight different vans and there was some really dangerous driving. And I understood for the first time how things happened to Princess Diana (I don’t think I’m Princess Diana), and I understood for the first time why celebrities lash out and what’s that about. My first thought upon getting out of the car was, “Who was that driver of the car?” I never found him, but I did lift someone by the hood. A photographer. He was in my way. They have a legal right to be there but they don’t have an ethical right, and he was obstructing my path, and there was someone else I threatened to knock their teeth out. It’s not like me but I felt very protective at that moment and very attacked. There is a huge difference between the attention of the paparazzi and the attention of the fans. The fans have been lovely. The paparazzi in my opinion are a very low form of primate.

Well said Chris!

Chris – you did an amazing job with New Moon. We (the fans) cannot thank you enough for bringing New Moon to life, and staying so very true to the novel. We love the fact that you made New Moon for the FANS and not for anyone else. And are equally as happy that YOU are indeed happy with the movie you made.

Our wish: That you direct Breaking Dawn. We’ll still love you just the same if you don’t. But it would be amazing if you did.

Haters need not apply!

MTV has a short interview with New Moon-er Kellan Lutz (aka Emmett Cullen). In the interview Kellan expresses the desire to continue working on the Twilight Saga. And would be more than happy to film a 4th and even a 5th Twilight Saga movie! There have been a lot of rumors floating around that Breaking Dawn will be split into 2 separate movies.

Dear Summit: What is the hold up? Why must you leave us all hanging?

That’s all.

I literally laughed my butt off when I watched this video! Ode to the funny Twilight parodies! This one is sick, yet extremely funny!

And in case you didn’t notice – the video features Superman star Brandon Roth as Edward Cullen! Swoon!

official-new-moon-poster-leakedThe L.A. Times has a great article on Summit Entertainment’s mega success with the “Twilight Saga”  Call it what you will, but I think we TwiFolk have finally arrived, because the numbers don’t lie.

When you factor in the original film’s $383.8 million in worldwide grosses with the $700 million or more in worldwide grosses that “New Moon” could eventually roll up, Summit Entertainment will soon find itself having the biggest true independent film franchise in recent history.

Indie studios have rarely, if ever, had the cushion of such a cozy franchise piggy bank. So when an indie studio has a bad year, it’s really a bad year. The high ledge can look awfully tempting. It’s why in the Miramax days, the Weinstein brothers created the genre-based Dimension division, which gave Bob Weinstein the opportunity to develop such cash cows as the “Scary Movie” franchise, the “Scream” series and the “Spy Kids” saga. Ditto for Lionsgate with its long-running “Saw” horror showcase. However, even though the six “Saw” movies have racked up an impressive $711.8 million in worldwide grosses, it’s likely that Summit, with just the first two installments in its ”Twilight” series, will end up leaving “Saw” in its wake.  It doesn’t mean that Summit’s future is secure. The studio eventually will have to prove that it’s more than a one-trick pony. But for now, Summit has some pretty serious bragging rights, proving that being an indie studio no longer means you have to be a second-class power, even when it comes to playing with the big boys in the franchise game.

And there you have it, Twilight  is truly a phenomenon.  These numbers are astronomical.  Remember when Titanic came out?  All the fuss over that movie, I was beyond guilty and obsessed.  I saw Titanic13 times(ok I’m mad I just revealed that to the world) and The Twilight Saga will surpass that easily, and I feel that long after all of this has died down…they’ll still be talking about Twilight & we the loyal fans for decades to come.  :)

Part 3

Taylor Lautner appeared on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien Monday night to promote New Moon.   Taylor chats with Conan about the Brazilian fans, extreme martial art and the twi-moms.  One Twi-mom stole a cardboard cut out of Taylor from Hot Topic!   Taylor talked about his and Kristen Stewart’s game they played.  Kristen would throw grapes and Taylor would catch them in his mouth.   Taylor showed off his mad skill of catching the grapes in his mouth.

Another funny interview with Conan O’Brien. Conan cracks me up!   LOL!    Very impressed with Taylor catching those grapes!

Robert Pattinson Taylor Lautner Kissing Entertainment Weekly Fold folded magazine

It turns out that if you fold the recent Entertainment Weekly magazine photoshoot just right, something very hilarious emerges, much like the old Mad Magazine funnies–Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner kissing!

Kristen Stewart used to be in the center, but with a clever fold she gets taken out of the mix!  So what do you think of the resulting pic?

621twilightfxtoddAh, the super talented Todd Masters.  A man who obviously is ahead of his time in the world of character effects, I mean look at his work!  Masters FX is Todd’s 22-year-old Los Angeles-based company, but Todd isn’t exactly feeling the whole “vampires who sparkle” thing.

“We’re not really into the whole sparkly vampire thing,” said Masters, a graduate of Sammamish High School who grew up in Lake Hills. “Vampires don’t sparkle.”

Among the company’s contributions to “New Moon” were wounds, scars, the tattoos worn by the wolf-morphing Quileute characters and one very graphic — and very sparkly — vampire death.

But alas — little to no blood.

“They don’t bleed,” said Masters. “They just sparkle.”

As you can probably guess, Masters is not a fan of Stephenie Meyer’s book series and doubts he’ll become one.

Ouch!  Not a fan?  Oh well, we can’t win them all folks.  But you simply can’t ignore the massive and undeniable talent that Mr. Masters has, I mean his  work is absolutely magnificent, maybe we will win him over…one day? :)

Masters, has also worked on several blockbuster smashes like, ”Nightmare on Elm Street and the very popular shows “Vampire Diaries” and “True Blood.”

Check out the very interesting story at SeattlePi, and check out 5 pics of Todd’s fascinating New Moon work, including the infamous Quileute tattoo, here.

So the whole “I love boys who sparkle” debate.  I think it’s cute and innocent, although the only one we’ve seen sparkle is my beloved Edward.  It would be nice to see them all bling out if even for a second.  As far as the blood and gore goes, I’m not into the whole bloody mess of it all.  I do enjoy True Blood as well as Vampire Diaries(that Stefan…woohoo!) but I like the lightness of  The Twilight Saga better, where the violence & blood is kept down to a minimum.  So how do you feel about the whole sparkle vs blood debate?  And also vampires are dead, are they even able to bleed? Hmmm..

Thanks, Diana!)
