I agree to a certain extent that Kristen has played troublesome teenagers in all of her films, but she was in her teenage years for all of those films. And if you think about each part it was completely different from the other.

Speak: She plays a rape victim.

The Cake Eaters: She plays a disabled girl who wants to have s*x before she dies.

Panic Room: She plays a girl with diabetes who goes through a tragic situation.

Into the Wild: She plays a generic teenager, but wow, she is such a scene stealer with her intimacy and emotion.

Adventureland: She is an angsty girl suffering the loss of her mother and dealing with a beeotch of a stepmother and dealing with falling in love in a period 80's piece.

Twilight: She is dealing with falling in love with a vampire. And then a werewolf.

The Runaways: She plays Joan freaking Jett.

Welcome to Riley's: She plays a stripper.

How much more versatile do we want her to get?

I know. I didn't even realize how much she had done until Twilight had come out. I was a fan of hers beforehand, but only knew of Panic Room and Into the Wild.

I saw speak in college a few months after it first came out...i was a fan of hers beforehand as well...and i realize that shes been in so many movies that i respect...speak broke me...her performance broke me...i remember we had a "take back the night" ceremony for victims of sexual violence...i just remember leaving feeling like someone had laid a weight on my chest and refused to remove it...shes a star...plain and simple...and i think she is one of the few actresses of our time who really loves her craft...no fame included...

It's a lot of work and with the money from the saga, despite the idiotic critics, she has a lot of power. An actor is judged on how much they bring in at the box office. That makes the three of them pretty valuable. Think of some of Jodie Foster's early, awful performances and she went on to get some great roles.

Very true. I mean, she IS a teenager...what do people expect her roles to be? She's way too young to pass as anything like a mom or something. For now, her roles will always be some form of a teen.

I'm not trashing Kristen whatsoever! I'm only saying that BECAUSE she has to play the teen in these movies, I think her acting is sort of overlooked when it comes to Oscar's and whatnot.

But even though she is versatile, you'll notice a good portion of the roles she took on are very dark. Twilight & Into the Wild being the only exceptions really. Versatile, I suppose, but still very much so in the same genre of characters..

The look in her eye during the entire depression stage was killer for sure. The saddest part in the entire movie for me was when she sat in Edwards seat in the cafeteria. I definitely started to cry...

Yeah, I have another point to make along those lines. She played teenagers in all those films, because that is the age range that works for her. She has to play someone who is similar in age to herself. Just for practical reasons.

And also, she plays troubled teens, or teens with issues, because frankly, who wants to see a movie about characters with no issues? That doesn't even make sense. Movies/books stories in general center around problems that affect the main characters. The story of Bella Swan centers around the PROBLEM of loving a vampire (not that it's really a problem from my point of view, lol).

I agree fully. I would rather her play characters with depth and edgy rawness, then to be a romantic comedy cookie cutter actress that only does cheesy sappy romances and cheerleader movies. Ugh.

Look at Dakota Fanning.... she's only 16 and look at how diverse her roles have been...

Hey C911 long time no log in, I cannot express how much I loved New Moon, from the music to the cinematography, it was a masterpiece, I have seen it twice already, I'm obessed with this movie, what can we do to get Chris Weitz for Breaking Dawn? though we have yet to see Eclipse now if we have two masterpieces than we have our directors because lets be honest, Breaking Dawn has got to broken into two. So far Mr Weitz is in the driver's seat.

See I respectfully disagree. I see what you are saying, but at the same time I can't see Kristen doing a Sense and Sensability movie or a romantic comedy because that is not her.

She could change it up a bit by doing something out of the darker indie angsty realm, like a horror movie, a real horror movie, not The Messengers.

I just think that she is not the kind of actress that is suited towards the bubble gum stuff, like Jennifer Aniston and Katherine Heigl. She is not good with comic timing or the overly bubbly romantic thing.

I guess that's why I like her so much. She kind of reminds me of the Demi Moore of this era. Demi never really fell into the bubbly overly happy stuff either and people turned their heads at that and I never understood why.

I really love and admire Reese Witherspoon, but could you imagine her doing a horror movie or a dark indie film. It just wouldn't jive.

Hi- you said an interesting idea... "because that is not her"... that is what acting is.. it is NOT about you, it is about the character. Glen Close, Tom Hanks, Will Smith... there are many out there that do a diverse line up of roles. People like Meg Ryan, Tom Cruise, Kevin Costner... they just dress up in different costumes and do the same thing over and over...

I think she could pull ANY role off.. and I am not talking generic romantic comedy.. but I am talking something other than a teenager doing this, sleeping with this guy, smoking this, blah blah blah. Her line up was more diverse earlier and seems to be very narrow now.

Demi did a number of great films.. and then fell into a rut too. Now where is she? Its very unfortunate.

I could totally see Reese doing those. She has the ability to pull off whatever it is. She happens to be one of my favorites. I think if you say "that's not my thing" or "that's not in my range" you are cutting yourself short. I think she has the ability, but if she doesn't think she can do it, she never will.... and that is really, really sad.

Will Smith is a really bad example. You could pretty much guess what kind of movie it is just by knowing that he is in it. All of the actors you have named are older, and are therefore have been able to do a variety of parts because they have aged. They've had more years than she has to play those different parts.

Kristen is still young. She can't play anything other than a teenage role right now. Movies and directors are always looking for specific looks, ages, and styles... it's not like she's had plenty of roles to choose from. We especially don't know the different movies she's been interested in, in the past.

Adventureland... Zathura.. Catch That Kid... Into the Wild.. Speak... The Cake Eaters... The Runaways... New Moon... The Messengers...
She has played all different types of characters, so I don't see how you don't notice the diversity?
Kristen as an actress, has a choice of which roles she can best relate to and pull a strong performace through. I don't ever see her doing a period piece or a romantic comedy. Other than those two genres, I can see her doing any other kind of film.. I don't think there's anything wrong with it either. That's plenty of variety to keep her from a rut in my opinion.

Will Smith has played a lot of action movies, yes, but he has also starred in movies like Seven Pounds, The Pursuit of Happiness, and Six Degrees of Seperation.

Will played those in his 20s. And I disagree about Kristen only being able to play a teen role now because she is a teen. She is 19. An adult.

Look at Dakota: As soon as she could, she played a 300+ year old vampire. She was in action, sci-fi, The Practice, CSI, Strong Medicine, Hansel & Gretel, Sweet Home Alabama, I Am Sam, Father Xmas, Alley McBeal..... that is quite a range considering her age.

Look at Kate Beckinsale: One Against the Wind, Rachel's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Prince of Jutland, Uncovered, Haunted, Emma, Shooting Fish, The Last Days of Disco, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Pearl Harbor, Tiptoes, The Aviator, Underworld, Show Angles, Nothing But the Truth... I could go on.

I said in an earlier post, that earlier in Kristen's career, she was diverse: Zathura, Speak, Catch That Kid. But lately: Adventureland, The Runaways, etc etc have been hard a%& teen flicks. Yes, different characters boiled down to the same core: hard a*^ teen.

And her next flick.. yes a prostitute but boil down to hard a^& teen.

Don't get me wrong: I love Kristen Stewart. I think she is a incredible actress. She has so much potential to be one of the greatest actresses of this century.

But it is not about "relating" to a role. Did Glenn Close "relate" to a physcopath stalker? Did Kate relate to a girl speaking Shakespeare or a leather clad vampire?

It seems that if all Kristen can "relate" to than she will be phased out... look at the other child stars that did the same "teen" roles over and over....

I don't want that. She can do ANY ROLE she DECIDES to do. I don't really think of her in age. She is just a great actress. Period.

don't forget In the Land of Women. She deals with a damaged relationship w/ her mother who is dying of cancer. I loved Kris in that movie.

well I think Kristen's most normal role is indeed Bella, I mean, she is not a bad girl, does not get into trouble, her parents are divorced but both love her, the only thing she is got going crazy is that her boyfriend is a vampire, her best friend is a werewolf. And there are those who want her dead. but unlike her other roles, Bella is like any other girl.

Gotta admire and love her...she always returns to her indie roots.

Not sure if this was supposed to be the page to write up Kristen appreciation posts, but whatever.
I will quote someone else on this site, and say that her performance in New Moon floored me. Everything about her acting was amazing. I say that because what I consider to be the most important aspect of New Moon, is that even though Bella found happiness with Jacob, he wasn't supposed to heal her. She was supposed to be somewhat distracted from the pain that Edward leaving caused her, but Jacob's presence wasn't supposed to take it away completely. That being said, I feel like you could see the pain in Bella, even when she was also clearly happy with Jacob. Not once did Bella look comfortable with feeling so comfortable with Jacob. Does that make sense? I think one of the things to understand about the story of New Moon, at least from my perspective, is that the character of Bella goes through this process where she doesn't really understand her feelings about Jacob. She is still so completely devoted to Edward, even though he is gone, and she is in so much pain over him literally being ripped from her life (him and his family) ,and Jacob is the friend that helps her through it. Even when she laughs with him, she feels guilt over feeling happiness without Edward, and that came across in Kristen's performance.
Okay, wow, long post.
Basically, what I originally wanted to say I can just say now: Kristen did an excellent job at portraying Bella's depression, because even when she was portraying the developing relationship with Jacob, she was simultaneously portraying the pain over Edward being gone - both could be seen in her expression, and if either one of those emotions had been sacrificed or just not expressed, New Moon would not have worked.

Hey I totally agree with you. I think she did a great job, especially with the depression scenes. Wow, she even looked thinner (of course make up helps). Any way, I think she improved a great deal from twilight to new moon.

Lmfao. Hence, Rob being a sick mofo. His first sex scenes ever on screen are strained and painful and with a man. I'm sure the film is so much more than that but a lot of it is based on sex. How he agreed to do this film, as possibly an exercise in stretching his artistic talent, is so intriguing.

I like how he said he did it because it was a three month holiday in Spain. He had to fondle a guy and start the film in possibly the worst costume ever worn but he got a holiday in a nice, warm country!
I actually like the film and think it's pretty underrated, whether he's in it or not. The fact that he is in it and that the guy who played Lorca is also pretty damn tasty, is just a bonus!

I don't know about the roof top scene. Yes, I've seen the the one where he watched Lorca and the lady get down....as he sits in the corner. Lord. my eyes. lol

I was so proud of Kristen's acting in NM. Twilight was a whole different story for me with her...just wanted to look away from the screen many times to detract from that eyelash batting and stuttering.

Makes you wonder what made all the difference....more experience or a director that knew what they were doing. Somehow I'm thinking it's more in with the director.

I'll bet it was time...On Twilight everything was so rushed and they even say in the commentary that sometimes they only got one chance to shoot a scene...so many of the scenes were just one take. Makes a world of difference if you can take multiple takes and get feedback from the director...☺

Yeah, everything was so thrown together and chaos with making Twilight. They would rewrite scenes right before shooting them and throw something together and only get one take.

And the hospital scene day, they said that there was all kinds of set drama. How can someone focus when all that is going on?

And it showed.

There were two versions of the hospital scene, at least, and Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs chose the lame a** version for the film saying it was "truer" than the other version. It's in the commentary.

I don't think we've actually seen the proper version of Twilight. We've seen the "Edward looks like he sparkles if I get really high" version but not the real version. SMH.

I'm not bitter.

She's is just herself and to be honest she doesn't give a shizzle, so i look up to her for that. She is so versitile. Every movie role she has played it has been different. She isn't a cliche. She is original and to be honest i just freakin' love her. I practically gush over her. I'm not saying anything negative or downgrading any of the other performances in NM, because it was a collective phenomenally acted movie.

With that said, Kristen was in every scene. If she sucked, the movie would suck. She floored me and I am so glad that she got her sh*t together and realized what she did wrong in Twilight and showed what she can do.

Did she twitch in NM at all? I don't remember her being as hyper. She became as still as Robward, I think, which is amazing since she's like the definition of kinetic energy lol.

She did a much better job in NM. I think the only part that I didn't like was when she is sitting in the truck and Rob is outside. The dialogue there fell a little flat. But her depression and chemistry with Taylor and then her during the entire Volturi scene was WOW.

So actually Anna was the youngest person to ever be nominated for a Tony award. you know, the Tony's are for theater... where acting started. I love Kristen as an actress but if you would just go outside the box and do a little research on Anna's work, you would see she is quite the powerhouse.

It never got picked up for distribution after the 2008 Toronto Film festival! Then after Twilight was so big they went back to try and get someone to distribute them and with the success of Twilight someone finally decided to back them. Then the backers couldn't decide if they would release it straight to DVD or let it hit the theatres.....I am pretty sure she filmed it in 2007 though

I recently saw Kristen in The Cake Eaters. She played a girl with a severe neurological disorder...She was great in it. Such a departure from Bella. I think she has a lot of talent and has a bright future ahead.

I watched Cake Eaters and I was disappointed. Kristen did a good job but when I was finally getting into it....it ended. I was like wtf is going on. If it had more to the movie I might have enjoyed it more.

I have to agree...the story kinda just stopped. But still thought she did a good job.

To the topic of the Cake eaters.Mary Stuart Masterson was a first time director in it. All of her cast have done great performances but you could see flaws in editing, camera movements and directions. Mary Stuart is an actors director. She brought the best out of them but I agree something was lacking. A scene that would give a bit more spice.

So far, my all time favorite Kristen movie is Speak. Phenomenal movie. Just incredible. And Kristen was only 13 or 14 when she filmed it!

It didn't seem too overdone to me. I live in southeast Texas and have relatives and friends in Louisiana. It was just a bit overly emphasized to me but it's hard for someone who is not from the South to do a southern accent. The accent I can't stand is Sookie Stackhouse in True Blood. So so so overdone! The Cajun guy in True Blood (can't remember his name) does a good cajun accent.

Maybe its just incredibly awkward coming from Kristen. Its just so out of character...

I dunno maybe its one of those things I gotta just watch the movie and ill slowly get used to it. I guess a 3 min trailer just isnt enough

I saw Haunted Airman a couple weeks back (which was released again) and it was soooo boring. I hope this movie isnt. I think Melissa doesnt want to touch BD, too. It has to be a really skilled writer to make something worthwhile out of BD. the only way to save it is to concentrate on Bella and Edward pre and post her transformation. Everybody is complaining about Kristens Awkward but she will make a top dog out of vampBella.

Did you see her frolicking in the woods with Rob. Did you see her face? Her confidence! Everyone keeps hating on that scene but I love it simply because of the fact that you see Bella as the jubilant vampire racing against her "perfect" vampire boyfriend.

Kristen's awkward but she's not a push over. She can stand tall with the best of them. And more importantly, she won't make Bella annoying in BD LOL.

I hate to admit this but I'm just back from NM and the frolicking didn't really bother me this time. No one laughed and someone actually said 'aw'. I ignored Rob's running and the outfits and I loved the look on Bella's face. She's looking at Edward like 'Keep up, *$$hole.' And there was a ring on her finger!

Grr, I never saw the ring before! Where is that still! I wonder if I can see it in that still! Wow, will they actually have the same ring in Eclipse? That'd be dope.

Let's hope the continuity is that good. I was looking for it this time because someone mentioned it the other day and I made sure I looked for it. It was better than looking at Edward in all his gayness!
I also noticed that when Felix had Edward by the throat (homo-erotic!) there's more than just the happy trail to see. There's a definate hint of the forbidden forest beyond. Maybe that's why the frolicking didn't bother me!
Still utterly knocked out by the Victoria/pack scene. One utterly amazing piece of film making.

Yeah, that Victoria/Harry's heart attack/Cliff-diving montage is definitely one of the best parts of the film.

And Edward in his "gayness"/Smurf outfit/Easter suit probably would've worked better if Rob weren't killing it with his "what a surprise" brooding! He would have looked cheesier if he were as happy as Kristen was. But still, it would've been nice to see him not brood in this scene.

I don't think there's enough money in the world to get Rob to smile during that level of cheesiness. He was probably trying really hard not to cry, knowing that millions of people were going to see him like that!
And there's so much body hair in all of Edward's scenes. I was blushing while on my own, in the dark. I did keep my eyes off his arm during the reunion this time, although it was difficult, and I saw his tongue. NICE!

I know, I was wobbly. I love his shoulders. I know a lot of people complain about vampires being pale and how that's not sexy but his body is so well proportioned. I can't comment on paleness; when Bella makes the crack about albinos in Twilight, I sympathised. I have exactly that colouring. Pale as milk with dark reddish brown hair. I dressed as a vampire one Halloween and needed minimal make-up!
And there's definately a bite mark on his nip. I wonder how he'd explain that to Bella!
All in all, I was just as blown away by his gorgeousness but this time I was expecting it and managed to keep my mind on other things. I still gave the occassional thought to how much I wanted to jump his bones! The meadow dream sequence- there aren't words for that! Someone behind me swore!

Yeah, Rob's body is proportioned well, which he'd never agree on, considering how one leg is longer than the other apparently lol. It's too bad he's not more graceful, that was one thing that Edward is and he isn't.

I can't knock Rob's utter lack of grace cz I'm a klutz. I've had concussion three times from walking into poles, I fell over a lot as a kid and I once hit my PE teacher in the nuts with a cricket ball. I'm such a Bella! Rob has body dismorphic disorder. I don't burn that easily, I freckle, but I keep covered up and, in Scotland, it's not too much of an issue. It's like Forks on the west coast of Scotland! Rain, rain and more rain. As my mum commented one day as it poured, "Why don't any sparkly vampires live here?!"

I think a part of Rob thinks he's ugly but another part thinks he's a fine piece, only because of the sort of pictures he takes. Usually guys who are really insecure won't take serious pictures as well as he does. I think he is aware of his appeal, which is why he can deliver those pouts so effectively and so often. Otherwise he'd just laugh too hard at himself to take any of those pictures lol.

It's like he switches off when he poses or when he's acting. I have a friend who's a photographer and he says the way a portrait turns out is mostly down to how the photographer puts the subject at ease but he says some people just look great in photos, no matter what.
I think Rob just has such an unusual face and he thinks he looks different in a bad way. He doesn't seem to take it seriously and he thinks it's funny that people think he's attractive. It's hard to understand the way he views himself. But we're looking from the outside and who knows what goes on in that messed up head of his!

I absolutely love Kristen. I think she's a great actress and she is clearly beautiful. But an Oscar? Probably not for a long time to come. I find her acting still very repetitive. Until she she can breakthrough from the regular teenage girl in every movie and start getting adult roles to show the world she's a more versitile actress, I can't see her even being considered for an Oscar. Give her some time

yessss i've seen all of her films. i don't know, i think she's a great actress but as i said earlier, she typically choses darker films.

That's because she never wanted to be a Disney Princess and who can blame her ... she's just not the bubbly giggly type :) I'm ok with darker roles personally but to each their own right :)

Saw the trailer a week or two ago and I loved it. Kris can pull off anything and her accent is so cute. She looks and feels like a southern girl. Which is the result of her being a f***ing fantastic actress.
I hope all her hard work pays off someday. She better start building an award cabinet.

To be honest I was nervous when I saw that she would have an accent. Being a person with a pretty thick accent I wasn't sure if it would come out right or if it would sound like she was making fun of it but she did great.
