“Not since Leo, circa Titanic, has a young actor been so aggressively beloved by 13-year-old girls worldwide,”

Now Vanity Fair writer Jessica Flint gives her thought on the Robert Pattinson phenomenon…

Peretz is right—and I would know. I was one of those teenage girls who got caught up in the “Leo-mania” fan frenzy in the late 90s. The first copy of Vanity Fair I ever bought was the January 1998 issue with Leo on the cover. I hung Tiger Beat and Teen Bop posters of Leo on my bedroom walls. And after I saw Titanic in the movie theater six times, one of my friends and I even created a Leo Web site, at a time when you could only access the Internet via a dial-up modem.

Sure, there were other Hollywood stars that set our teenage hearts a-flutter (Home Improvement’s Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Camp Nowhere’s Andrew Keegan, and Casper’s Devon Sawa come to mind), and the Backstreet Boys and N*SYNC boy-band craze that prompted one of my friends to paint her bedroom baby blue (it was Justin Timberlake’s favorite color) came close to rivaling the Leo pandemic. But among us teenagers, it was only DiCaprio who orbited in the true superstar stratosphere.

Although I personally don’t understand the infatuation with Pattinson (luckily, I grew out of my teenage obsession phase long ago), I certainly understand where today’s teenagers are coming from. But I’m still not sure that RPattz hysteria is as intense as Leo-mania was.

So you all know that Rob isn’t my (TSH) ‘cup of tea’ -I just hate that baseball cap!!  BUT even I have to agree that he knows how to photo well and look breathtakingly beautiful when doing a photo shoot.  BUT like most girls my age Leo was *sigh* just Leo….he was perfect and like most I cried my eyes out watching Titanic.  I see Leo mania as something else because it was before high speed tinter-net, before the papz followed your every move and had pictures up with minutes of them being taken.   I think Rob has it much worse because Leo wasn’t mobbed walking down the street and his every move plastered on the web in seconds of it happening.   Its a hard comparison but the teenager inside me says that says Leo wins the battle of the heartthrob and he’d still win if was Leo V Taylor…sorry no one comes between a girl and her first major teenage crush!   I do however still think that RPatz mania is worse than what Leo faced…what do you think and who wins in your eyes in battle of the heartthrobs?

    Leo went through a real fugly stage for a LONG time. Rob wins hands down. And I agree adult fan ratio is high....so no assuming we're all teens.
  • I was so afraid of writing that I never understood the fascination with girly-boy Leo until you wrote it. He looked like he was 15 for the last twenty years. No thanks. I want a man.

    And the main difference between Rob and Leo is that Rob is a girly man not boy.

    Also, Rob's brooding... no words. Rob's appeal is really all in his eyes. He makes you believe you can see his naked soul through those eyes. Leo never pulled that off.

    Nope. was never team Leo...... sure he's a talented actor, but he just doesn't have that charisma or that depth to his eyes to be able to rock your world with just a look. Rob has that look down to a science. I did have posters of Andrew Keegan though, when I was like 11 years old. But, yeah, no other celeb hearthrob nears having half the appeal that Rob does.

    I was in my early twenties when the whole Leo phenom was hot but as cute as he was, he was just a little tooooo babyfaced for me.
    I think that yes, Rob is currently experiencing Leotype love/fanaticism but GOD, at least we are all obsessing over a man who looks like a man this time around instead of a man inside a boys body!. Just looking at pics of Rob's jawline does all kinds of interesting things to my internal organs.

    agreed. I don't find Leo attractive at all. Just as you say, he looks like a puny 13 year old to me, and now he sort of looks like a cross between a puny 13 year old and a puny 40 year old. And Rob does look like a man. Mon dieu! I am absolutely in love with him. Also, and please I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's sensibilitis.... but Titanic for me is an absurdly awful movie.

    I haven't seen Titanic either, and don't want to. Never understood the fuss about Leo, and I was mid-late 20's then. I'm not a teen now either, but still think Rob is WAY hotter. Leo was cute, never smoldering hot. Nice try. Rob's 'Steam Factor' is so huge, it's on the Richter scale. (That's a lot of steam.) No one measures up to Rob. NEXT!

    I really dislike that assumption as well. But unfortunately tv/internet/print think his biggest fans are teens. If they only knew. Personally I think they should take a poll, then we'll see what the numbers really are.

    Cool! My daughter will be 12 next week and she's a tomboy. She watches TL w/ me and will go to NM w/ me (on the 2nd time - won't take her to the midnight show!) - but she just rolls her eyes at me when I pick up Robward merchandise in stores and get I get excited! It's really funny.

    Oh, if you're doing the math - yes, I started early. Enjoy hanging with us adults and obsessing over TL, but take your time growing up. I couldn't wait to grow up and now all I think of when I see 14-17 year old girls is "please enjoy being a kid!!!"

  • Yes I agree, think it's safe to say half the New Moon fans are adults since so many of them are taking the time to write about, stalk & make skits on the Twilight thing. Also Leo is a great actor, but doesn't seem to be as interesting of a person behind the scene's as Robert does. Robert seems the type of guy one could talk about books with & he wouldn't be checking his blackberry every 2 seconds; as I'm sure Leo would. In Woody Allen's film Celebrity, Leo chose the role of a sex crazy young star cause I hear he's a sleep with models type. Robert so far has been a smart, real guy, type which is rare off camera & on.     I know! I went to the bookstore today, and was SHOCKED to see the huge Twilight Saga display is no longer front and center when you walk in the door. I was even more shocked, when after walking around for 10 minutes, there was not a single Twilight Saga book to be found. Finally, when I had all but given up, Rob's face caught my eye from a wall far away. They had a display set up in the KIDS section! Ridiculous. Seriously, most of the hardcore fans are adults. Where did the mix up occur?

    It's been such a long time since I was a teen. I do remember my teen crushes, though, they were shallow, brief, and I found real guys (that I knew in real life) were so much more exciting than any teenage crush I ever had.

    Rob, on the other hand is one intense, very interesting, complex young man. He is so much more than any of his rivals. And that he plays those dorky characters, and then Edward, the perfect man, well, he brings out fantasies I thought I'd never have!

    Not to say that I've not had some intense relationships in my life...but my fantasy life has taken on a side-life all it's own since I've become acquainted with Rob and all the fanfiction out there.

    Agree with you. Most of Rob's appeal is on the inside. Yeah, he is absolutely breathtaking to look at, but what Rob has that most actors don't is self deprecation that is genuine.

    He is not full of himself and arrogant, which irritates me about some of the other actors that he is constantly compared to.

    Rob also is a very layered individual--he has all that musical talent--the singing, playing piano, guitar, composing that has so far gone almost completely untapped. I think we will all be amazed when he finally allows us to share in that. His singing alone is so soulful.

    ...and yes, he is humble and very real. It's almost painful to read his interviews sometimes...at other times he is so humorous...

    He's a very different kind of actor...heartthrob, I think.

    Hugh Jackman is such a good role model in so many ways--he's a loyal husband and good father who balances his family life with his professional life of both Broadway and movies. He's friendly and kind to everyone, in interviews and with fans.

    He's not only talented but a true gentleman, too. It would be great if he could mentor Rob in a few of these things.

    I really hate the fact that the media is stuck on the 13 year old fan premise. Honestly they have to wake the h@ll up. Even if it started that way its not that way anymore. It wasn't 13 year olds that attacked Rob in New York. It wasn't 13 year olds hanging outside until 3AM hoping to get a glimpse of him on the set. It wasn't a crazy 13 year old that got that weird tatoo of his signature on her arm (at least I hope she was older). I'm pretty sure when he was mobbed outside a Rite-Aid that those people weren't 13.......The 13 year olds are Hanna Montana fans screaming at her concerts. Good Grief!!! Wake up people.

    I have to say I have always and will be a Leo fan.....his pretty boy good looks drew me in during the Titanic phase.....

    I think Leo chose some really good roles post Titanic and these really cemented himself as an A list actor with his performances in Catch me if you can, The Departed, Blood Diamond, Body of Lies.Leo has stretched himself as an A list actor and proven his versality across so many roles.

    Interesting fact: Leo was 23yrs old when he starred in the Titanic and plummeted to the same heartthrob fame as Rob.

    .....now I am 33yrs old and apparently not immune to 'phases' as Rob has taken my heart!!!!

    I hope and pray Rob makes the same 'smart' decisions and avoids the type cast issue that actors continually face.

    Leo, is pretty and gorgeous but Rob, is beautiful, gorgeous and downright SEXY, you either have sex appeal or you don't (the broody, modest personality helps and oh the sex hair of course). LOL

    I personally am looking forward to watching Rob develop as it is only early days. He has so much potential. Hopefully the right choices are made with respect to movies and his music.....he is just so damned talented.

    Leo is now 36yrs old so imagine where Rob will be if he continues acting over the next 13yrs.

    As I said so much talent and potential. I will be there watching him grow and mature into I am sure, an A list actor.

It's almost impossible not to have a bit of a crush on him if you love Twilight and see/hear things about him and what he says and does. He can be a total hottie and intense, along with genuine, funny, witty, and humble. And don't think we haven't bought magazines just to look at him, because we've done that, too! My sister bought something for me for my upcoming birthday that is New Moon related. The clerk at the store told her she was a great big sister. My sister laughed and said, "I'm the little sister by about 20 years!" I'm hoping it's a blanket so I can cuddle up with it at night and have sweeeeet dreams!

My mother is in her late 50's and she's coming with the rest of us (12 in all) to see New Moon at midnight, and my friend's mom who is in her 60s saw the movie with us when it first same out and she was as thunder struck as the rest of us! I'd like to think that if I was 70 and read these books, I'd feel the same way. As soon as I started reading the books, I sent my best friend a set and bought 5 paper backs to pass around. One of my friends said to me, "I want to keep something or wear something like a necklace from Twilight to keep it close to my heart always." That is exactly what I had thought. It touches you in such a way.

    Undoubtedly. My best friend and I have discussed that and feel the same way. I try to keep what Tyler Perry said in his movie Why Did I Get Married, which we saw on a spur because my friend had had a fight with her husband! He said no one is perfect; you're only going to get 80% (at best) from your spouse, and if you traded him for someone else, you'll only get 80% (at best) from the next guy. It may be a different 80%, but 80% non-the-less. I try to keep this in mind because it can be difficult to live in reality when you've been in Twilight! I said this to someone before and she said, "I'm so glad you said that out loud!" For me (my friend feels a similar way) I have a very dutiful husband that is so selfless, but he is not an emotional person. Considering that I am an emotional person and was raised without emotional or physical love, it is difficult to live as an adult without it. If I don't have it now, I don't think I'll ever get the chance. Anyway! I love the scene when Bella runs into Edward's arms when he is about to step into the sun light. It is such a sweet and beautiful mix of emotional and physical love. Sigh! I can live with lower levels of the qualities listed above, just give me someone who deeply loves me like I'm his brand of Heroin!

    Someone else responded to one of my posts on this, but i can't find it on here to reply back. She said, "So what is it about Rob that attracts older "girls" like us???? I know exactly what it is. Like someone else said on here, he's layered. He can be a total hottie, but being a hottie and acting like one is not in his personality. He is genuine and doesn't wear "window dressing" as most people do, which is why we feel like we know him. And he is on the introverted side and runs deep. And I have to laugh whenever he mentions his flaws because that makes us love him all the more - he's flawed just like the rest of us. He seems to think that we love him because he plays Edward (and lord knows we love Edward), but I think we love Edward more because Rob plays him. If it were another actor, this wouldn't be happening. He is so intense, emotional, and thoughtful as Edward. Oh, those looks on his face are enough to make my heart stop. The scene in the New Moon previews where Edward looks at Jacob while Jacob is hugging Bella and Edward takes a deep breath because it causes him pain, I just want to scream, "Oh, (my) Edwarddddddddddddd!

    I was in the 8th grade when Titanic came out, and I was already head over heels OBSESSED with Leonardo DiCaprio when he starred in the movie The Basketball Diaries and Romeo & Juliet. I cut out every artical that mentioned his name, anytime there was a small picture of him, it was in my scrapbook. By the time I was in 9th grade, I had collected over 3,000 pictures of Leo. I love him so much, still, but I have outgrown my teenage angst, but not my love for Leonardo DiCaprio. I still love him and get excited when I see a movie that he is in, or read an article about him.

    I worked at a Middle School this past year and I see that same sparkle in those girls eyes that I once had for Leo. They love Twilight and I think more-so Edward than Robert Pattinson.

    I am, at 25, swept away once again by my obsession with The Twilight Saga, but it is more about Edward that RPatz. He is a great actor and SUPER HOT, but I know that I am in love with Edward. My obsession for this saga and the movies does remind me of when I was 13 and cried about "Jack freezing to death" in Titanic.

    Anyway, I love newmoonmovie.org and I check it probably 10 times a day from work, because I'm 25 and obsessed with this saga. I wish I could just hug Stephenie Meyer for giving me something to share with my mom and friends and co-workers. We all love it so much.

    unless you lived through the leo mania then yes this is going to sound silly to you. Of course you are going to say Rob wins. HELLO, he is what is hot in your era.

    For me i was there when leo mania arrived, I remember having posters covering my entire wall with pictures of him, including the ceiling. Any picture of him in a magazine i cut out and threw it on my wall. I saw Titanic 8 times in theaters and can't even count how many times i saw it when it went to vhs. To me the mania between both guys is very much different.

    I do agree that rob has it much worse with the all the photos being taken of him when he just goes to the store, and what not. He has no personal life and for that it is just sad. To compare the amount of fans is crazy, but i do ponder how many fans rob has that are fans of him, or fans of the twilight series. That is what the biggest difference is between the two. Leo had fans who were just plain fans of him, not people who were so giddy about titanic. They were mainly just happy to see his face. *although i still say he was best in romeo and Juliet* As for rob, he not only is meeting his fans, he is meeting twilight fans, and he is also sharing a spotlight with another guy i.e Taylor. So there is more depth to rob's fame compared to Leo's fame.

    Both men look dashing though regardless.

    It is actually in X2 and Origins... Fully back bum (All HUGH!) in X2 at Alkali Lake (I am sure I just spelled that wrong) and in Origins - same scene but in full.

    During filming he was in a tank of warm water - NAKED and then he sits up - gets shot by Agent Zero (You know the scene! Head pushed to left should turned with snarl... after hearing "Kill him") JUMPS out of tank runs to door - slashes an X pushes it - FULL FRONTAL NUDE EXIT and full frontal run down hall! HE even did that leap (Though it was in a green room).

    BOTH movies all him. Due to the PG-13 rating the director had to cut out the 'all' of the full frontal and gave it to Hugh at the final party. BUT if you watch (like I said I have the bootleg that got out - someone gave it to me - and the maxed out box set) there is a 'flash' of Hugh. It is quick but there. I think I have that much better memorized than any part of the Twilight series...

    I can not resist Hugh - EVEN if it is to talk about him!

    So he had been doing the musical and got REALLY dehydrated (This was his first non-tv show gig) and they told hi to drink lots of water so he did - right before a show! So he is doing the show and before intermission (when he could go use the loo) he realized as he was about to walk on stage he had to pee. Well, he is a professional - so he went on! He was doing all of songs and what not and the urge got worse as the all the water he drank REALLY filled his bladder... So finally it got to the point where he is singing and carries Bell... He had a choice while carrying her... Sing it wrong and hold his bladder (It was a high note and long so it required the unclench-ing of muscles) OR hit the notes like the professional he is and let 'come what may' happen.

    He decided he was a professional. Hit the long high note while carrying bell... Felt all the wetness (got grossed out) but completed that part of the scene. He walked off stage for the 2 second hiatus before he had to go back on... LOOKED down and saw nothing (Heavy red tights) so WALKED back on and completed the pre-intermission stuff he had to do. The croud was snickering... He looked down and SAW THE TIGHTS WERE ALL WET!! He finished his scenes, WALKED OFF, went and changed. He tells the story whenever he is interviewing at acting schools.

    His moral - Be a professional NO MATTER WHAT!

    I SO LOVE THIS MAN!!!

  • Ok so I am 25 and was definitely a teenager during the Titanic Leo days. However, I was not infatuated with Leo whatsoever, he never seemed my type at all. (And I was crazy over Jonathan Jackson, Andrew Keegan, *sigh* and all those other 90s teen heartthrobs).
    If I was a teenager now, I do believe I would be totally smitten with Rob! I kind of am now. He is just so down to earth and so funny! I heart him.. lol

    I went to see Titanic six times in the theatre, but not exactly for Leo.

    Don't get me wrong, Leo is hot and can act brilliantly. But ever since I found out that he only dates models, that kind of turned me off.

    I agree with TSH, Rob has it worse cuz Leo did not go through the age of camera phones, Twitter, and the blogosphere.

    Rob all the way baby. Even though Leonardo can actually back up his good looks with is acting prowess. Respect for that.

    LOL ... well ... yeah. I think that when it first came out it was like nothing else. It was a perfect blend of romance, drama, action and special effects and an epic, sad ending.

    But after the smoke cleared, I hit a major brick wall with it and got completely sick of it.

    I still can't watch it all the way through. But it is a brilliant epic romance movie. It can't be epic without some heartache.

    But does anyone remember that Good Will Hunting came out the same year? I thought that movie was leaps and bounds better and should have won Best Picture. Sorry, random.

    Titanic was epic. It's not one of my favorites but I did enjoy it. I saw it in the theater once.

    Good will Hunting? Very good movie. I like Matt Damon--I think he does a good job in choosing his movie projects--he's played some interesting characters and has done a good job.

    Yes! I loved Good Will Hunting! At least Matt & Ben got the Academy for Best Original Screen Play - Titanic hogged so much of the others. Oh, and Robin Williams won Best Actor in Supporting Role. That was one of his first serious roles. He is very funny, but has a wide range and depth as an actor. And, of course, we must be thankful for the eye candy!

    I have to disagree - Leo is a great actor NOW - after years of experience. But so many of his early roles were just taking on the teen throb, pretty boy role. His acting was horrible in the Quick and the Dead and really not even that great in Titanic. I did love What's Eating Gilbert Grape - for once he took on a non-pretty boy role and played it well. I have to admit, I still haven't seen Basketball diaries, but it is on my Blockbuster que. Still, Leo's acting skills have been perfected over the years.
    Compare Leo's acting skills of his first few films to Rob's now - I think Rob is on the path to being an excellent actor - not just a pretty face, and I have no doubt that he will be taking on a variety of different roles to prove his skills.

    You're right, his acting in Titanic and, by the way, Romeo and Juliet wasn't great at all. He just doesn't fit the hearthrob status.


    I know I will be killed now, but as much as I like Rob - he really ruined two Twilight scenes. ;) So that's what I say, Leo is the better actor (YET!!), but Rob the more symphatic, good looking guy.

    But, you have me curious. What did Rob ruin in TL? I promise I will not kill you or even yell at you! I was lucky enough to watch the movie 1st, then got hooked on the books - so I really enjoyed the movie - although I thought they fell in love 1st. I say lucky, b/c now that I've read the books I will be watching the subsequent movies with much greater scrutiny (2 big words in one sentence - pretty cool for a blond!!!)

    So, please share! I may even agree with you.

    The first really ruined scene is the one in the car, with Edward and Bella. Edward driving awaay fast from the bad guys, asking Bella to sidetrack him. Edward is suposed to be full of anger and bloodlust and killinginstinct here. But what Rob shows is a reaction like.. sorry, like he has to use the bathroom. If I've been Hartwick, I would have ask him to do this take again.

    Second really ruined scene was not only his fault, but Kellans and Nikkis as well. When the tracker (James) changes direction... I still don't get why they all stood still at once and start staring. It feels so unreal...

    The scene where he drinks Bellas blood isn't really good as well, but I can deal with it. But you now what? The scenes where he is really GREAT are the extended and deleted once... which makes me feel like Rob can do scenes better, where Edward os happy (forest) or insecure (all the rest of the deleted scenes).

    After all, I'm still a Rob fan, because I like the way he behaves and because he seems down to earth. Still I'm critic about his acting skills. He has to learn a lot more, and I think he eventually will, as long as he gets roles he can grow with.

    By the way, I dpn't thin I'm influenced by reading the books frist, because ... well, I'm a passionate reader, but I don't like Meyers books because of several reasons.

    Oh dear, sounds like I have to whine about anything... which is not, normally. ;)

    Please excuse my bad English. I'm from germany. Which means, I have to stand Kristens and Robs sychron voices in a few days and THEY really ruin a lot of scenes and acting skills. :(

    I thought the 'distract me' scene was off, too, but I think the scripting was to blame. Obviously they couldn't use the 'I'm gonna run over Tyler' talk - b/c they didn't have Tyler asking her to the dance and the dress shop talk in the movie - but I think MR should have come up with something better than 'put your seat belt on' - What was that??

    I never really thought much on the scene when he realizes James figures it out - but I guess I can see that. Really my only criticism of Rob in TL is sometimes he seems annoyed and angry when he's supposed to be smooth and calm. For example - in the office when he's trying to change classes and Bella walks in - he almost growls, "I guess I'll just have to endure it!" That should have been in his pleading velvet voice, "That's ok, I see there's nothing that can be done. Thank you." Then when Bella stumble on the field trip he seems angry and annoyed that she can't even walk without hurting herself. In the book he laughs at her clumsiness and jokes that she is a very difficult person to keep alive. Again - most of this could be blamed on scripting - but he definitely didn't have the tone right.

    I have very high hopes for the rest of the saga movies and Rob's future career in general - I think he's going to be great.

    You really confused me with your SM comment - I love the world of TL she has created and I also loved The Host. If it weren't for my total addiction to her writing - I wouldn't be on here. I have never followed any other fan site or had any obsession this deep.

    I think your English is great! Do you live in Germany? I have a good friend who is Russian and she's been in the states almost 2 years. Her English is pretty good, but she still has a hard time reading/writing in English. She liked the TL movie, and I thought about ordering the book in Russian, but never did. I've heard the translations leave a lot out. Have you seen TL in English? Guess you have to wait on the dvd for that, huh?

    Yes, I live in Germany, and when the TL DVD came out, I finally had the chance to watch the movie in English and did it ever since. I wish they would show more original versions here in theatres, so I could watch New Moon in english BEFORE the DVD is in stores.

    You really brought up some interesting scenes there! I thought the office seen was just great! I think the "every time calmness" in the books made Edward such a flat and unrealistic character, so I think it was the right decision to "almost growl" there. I mean, he's almost desperate because of all the sudden bloodlust and his will to kill Bella. His world has turned upside down, because he can't even read her mind. And to be honest - Edward is a lame duck in social behaviour, if he can't read what others are thinking. ;) So I understand all his angryness.

    I also think, Bellas reaction was fine with "put your seatbells on", because she's just stressed and confused and you say silly things like this, when you're really nervous. Just Robs laughing distracted me.

    Hmm, the greenhouse scene... I don't know what to think about it. I see your point, now that you've mentioned it, but it haven't come up to me before. Maybe because I don't really like Edward and everything not-so-friendly he does feels like underlining my kind-of negatoves feelings for him.
    See, I think this is the point that shows, that Rob indeed HAS acting skills. I like Rob and still don't like Edward. Which is why I love the Volturi scenes, maybe. :P

    It's not really the world of the Twilight Saga I blame. You're right, the world - or let better say the unusual display of vampires - is nice to read. But as an author myself, I just have a loooot of critism about her story-development, writing style and especially character creation. Especially last part is the reason, why I prefere the Saga movies, other than usual. Above all, Kristen really "rescues" the whole Saga for me with her portrayle of Bella. :)

    My cousin's husband.. his family lived in Africa. His cousin's girlfriend also did and when I went to my cousin's bachlorette party last year in FL she went, too.     but i think leo became larger than life because of the movie he was in. he was amazing in titanic, no lie. but rob somehow transcended beyond twilight (which will never grow to surpass titanic's numbers or grand scale, believe me).

    Is this even a question? Robert is in a league of his own...Leonardo who? He does not even come close to Robert's charisma/sex appeal. Nor does he have any musical talents, like Robert...so simply put Robert wins hands down! And Robert is NOT a teen heart throb, Robert is a talented heart throb.

    And yes most of the Twilight fans are mixture of older teens, those in their 20s (me!), and 30s, 40s, 50s etc. They're people/women of all ages who enjoy a good/sweep you off your feet, romance/love story. So stop saying that the Twilight fans are mostly tweens, because they are NOT!

    I think Twilight fans can be from any age rage personally. I am 21 and read the books and i am not ashamed. But when you speak of those who are Rob fans or Taylor fans i think MAJORITY are tweens. I know some people who are in their 30's and are obsessed over rob so i know its not entirely impossible for the older generation to be in love with them as well. I just think a good portion happen to be under the age of 18.

    In general there are different levels of Rob fans. You have some Who scream at the very sight of him and have every magazine he has ever been on. Those are usually under 18 cuz that is typical tween behavior. lol. If you are just a fan of him, saving pictures on your computer, having him as your background, but don't let him consume your life you are probably over the age if 18. I know its not impossible for older generation to like him. I just think if they ever did a poll most would be under 18 cuz its more typical. Plus there is a lot more closet rob lovers than you would ever be able to know about. I am pretty sure some people have pictures of rob hiding on their computer, and don't plan on telling anyone that they secretly think he is sexy. lol

  • I disagree. The R Pattz hysteria seems so much more heightened than the Leo hysteria. I think Leo is an exceptional Actor and a good looking guy, but Rob AKA Edward has the X factor. The magnetic, brooding portrayal of Edward is so sexy and Rob's modesty and awkwardness just adds to his appeal.

    You also have to consider Twilight is at least a 4 movie saga. There was only one Titanic -It was obviously impossible to make a sequel!

    i was very young when i saw titanic for the first time and i liked Leo.I had several celebrity crushes between titanic and twilight but it was never so strong and intense crush like i have for Rob.weird cos when i saw twilight for the first time i was like ok the actor is handsome and that's all.but a few months ago i started searching for some news about twilight and somehow i fell in love with Rob(i know i'm silly)so i am all for Rob and can't wait to see him in his future projects.

    im not into rob, but at least he appears to me ... his face is very attractive to me.
    so i would say rob wins big time. Leo is shallow, always dates models?! Doesn't he dates normal girls?

    Rob is such a real guy. Leo has the ego of the titanic. Therefore Rob gets a much higher AHHHHH factor. PS I am an adult...not a screaming teen. :)

    My daughter and granddaughter love Twilight, and got me hooked. Loved the movie, loved all the books, love the music, especially the score and have tickets for a midnight showing of NM, after Twilight, of course, at the cinema. I promised myelf I would never watch Titanic, and know others who felt the same way. It was all the pre publicity. I knew the ending ... it sinks!!!
    I missed Twilight at the cinema, but I watch the DVD whenever I can. All of the characters are great, although in my mind, Kristen in Zathura still makes me laugh.
    Good acting, good movies, wish it were truer to the books.
  • leonardo is a very good well-known actor and included in the A-listers o he cannot be compared to rob. i loove rob and im one of a huge fun of him but i have to say leonardo is waaaaay pass him.. even still i think rob is hotter! haha!

    I think Leo is better. I'm not so attracted to Rob. I like the character that he plays, it may be the age difference. I will watch Leo in anything that he acts in but I will probably not go to a movie just because Rob is in it. They both are really attractive but there is something about Leo.

    Jack and Rose had a few days on a ship and a social/economic dilemma in their relationship. Bella and Edward have immortality and months of near death experiences, their story was much more tumultous than the Jack/Rose storyline. Leo is pretty, dates selectively and acts a little snooty. Rob has an amazing sense of humor, an amazing level of self-awareness and is dirty hot, not just "pretty". Let this not be a subject of debate again... seriously.

    Leo is not 36, he's turning 35 in a few days ;)

    I am 24, I was a huge huge huge Leo fan (still am)... and Leo mania was CRAZY, absoloutely nuts. I think Leo mania was huger than Robs fan base, he had so much merchandise just for him, whereas Rob has more Twilight merch etc.

    I think there's no comparing. Leo had his teenybop time and grew into a recognised wonderful actor, Rob is still in that teenybops screaming in his face phase, and he is more than 10 years younger than Leo. There's no comparing. I'm not saying Rob isn't a wonderful actor, he is and I am huge fan of his too and he's grabbed my heart like Leo did back in the day. But, you get my point.

    It's impossible to compare their looks, charisma etc. Leo was also funny and cute and shy back then, he did adorable interviews and was known on set for being a little funny trouble maker... but now he's a much older man with more acting experience behind him.
