Team Edward!!! Always have and will be.... but I have sympathy and respect for Jacob and what he goes through- poor guy!! But Edward and Bella were just meant to be and that's how it ends up being.

I agree Jacob should have stayed. He might have known that it wasn't Victoria because obviously he would know her sent, but he hadn't changed until after the Cullens left so if it was any of them in the house he would not be able to identify the scent, he just knew that there was a vampire in the house. So he had no idea weither or not Bella was walking into a trap which could have been highly likely. That did make me mad. I can't say Edward was any better though cause he did leave Bella when he knew that vampires are very protective of their mates, and that possiblility of Victora coming back for revenge was high. Oh well who can stay mad at Edward lol

awwww im upset that you didnt like the romeo and juliet reflection. i think this chapter was my absolute favorite throughout the book i love the part where shes sitting and thinking about giving jake a chance and how in her truck shes debating whether of not to turn her head to kiss his shoulder, and she hears edward and hes like be happy that part melted me because edward would say that exactly to bella. yeah that part where jakes like i hope you dont die i was so confused, but i know he was just hurt and he trusted that bella knew it was carlisle. but he even said it could be a trick so i cant believe he just split.

Pg. 379 Attention: The honeymoon is over. This is where it all goes south for me, and where my love/hate relationship with Jacob begins. “There’s a vampire in your house, and you want to go back?” “Of course.” “You’re sure it’s not a trick?” “It’s not a trick. It’s Carlisle. Take me back!” “No. Take yourself back, Bella…Bye Bella, I really hope you don’t die.” Wtf? Seriously Jacob? Was all that necessary?

Just when I was starting to really like Jacob and the whole wolf scene, he just pisses the hell out of me here and we all know he doesn't get much better. He gets quite bitter from now on... especially the phone call we are soon about to receive the in the epilogue he annoys the HELL out of me.
So this is goodbye the Jacob whitty remarks like ''I’m just so glad you’re okay that I could sing-and that’s something no one wants to hear''.

We find out that the red across the water is Vicky!!!! scary!!! I love the way Stephenie Myer desccribes her realization of the flames on the water being her stalker!! pretty cool I rekon.

And I agree with MrsEdwardCullen..... Jacob just LEFT when Bella said that it was Carlisle and told him to take her back (I LOVE how she says 'Take me back!' to Jacob.... when its kind of like towards Edward and the Cullens.. TAKE ME BACK!!!!!' ha.. love it.
But ANYWAY... Jacob didn't even stick around to make sure that Bella didn't die.. for all we know (but we do know) it COULD have been a trick and it COULD have been Victoria... James tricked Bella into thinking that he had Renee in Twilight so we know the sneaky nature of the nomadic vampires. But all I can say in thank god it really was a Cullen... for Bellas sake and Jacob.... Jacob you idiot! I am no longer Team Bordlerline.... Team Edward FOR THE WIN!! At least he has the decency to kill himself when he thinks Bellas dead (I'm getting ahead of myself).. But you Jacob Black.... just drive off... let her get killed.. Loved this chapter but I am most looking forward to the next couple of chapters (before they go to I-T-something-something-Y) and it heats up abit between Jake and Bella (even though Im currently pissed off at Jake)... and of course because you know who comes back *couch* spikey haired beauty *cough cough*
But I will continue to enjoy the wolf's involvement in the story until the vamps come back...

I spent a great deal of time trying to 'reason' this out...Jacob leaving Bella at the house, that is...
Had he stayed, what would he have been able to do? There was no way for him to know Alice Cullen...has he ever seen her, at all? I highly doubt it since she never would have been on the res. he's never had reason to be anywhere near her.
He couldn't go in alone to 'check'.
He couldn't take Bella along with him there would have been no way to protect her. If he'd gone in human would he have been able to phase quick enough to protect her if it was a 'bad' vampire and would he have been able to keep her protected from himself during the phase?
Or would he have phased immediately & killed Alice without there being any danger?
He knew it wasn't Victoria at that point he could either take Bella far and away or leave her as she begged him to do....I don't see another way....

I know the nerve of him. Bella was ticked off when alice told her that it was Edward on the phone. She had come so close to hearing his voice.

This is the chapter that does drastically change the story again. It is also the point where I began to lose my patience with Bella. The first time I read NM I was really happy that Alice coming back meant that Edward was coming back. Now after reading NM for the 4th time I really dislike Bella at times at this book because it is all about her and she is selfish at times. When it is about what she can survive and how much pain she can take. She wants Jacob to be there to take care of her even though she has little or nothing to give him.Despite the crushing heartbreak she goes through when Edward through she uses Jacob so she won't have to be alone.The She does develope feelings for him though I don't think she intentionally means to. She continues to use him as a crutch through most of NM then just drops him so easily when she realizes that the Cullen car is outside her house as if his protection and the sunlight he had provided her were nothing. It was almost as if everything with him saving her life earlier was nothing. At this point I stopped feeling bad for Bella. The first time I read NM it didn't bother me as much because I was ready for Edward to come back to her. Each time I reread it I see how she is being selfishness which continues to come through at times during Eclipse. I don't think its unreasonable that Jacob feels betrayed and doesn't want to stick around. This is the first of Jacob's many tries to pull away from Bella but he always ends up apologizing and coming back and that's one reason I love his character. Edward is who Bella belongs with. I do think that Bella would have ended up with Jacob if Bella had moved to Forks and never met Edward or if Edward had never come back but the 2nd condition would have never been fair to him even though it didn't matter to him. I do love this book & can't wait to see it onscreen but this is one time I'm glad he didn't let her manipulate him & he walked away. There are times I wish both Jacob & Edward would walk away from her when she's going back & forth in Eclipse. Despite that I do love Bella's character and how she knows what she wants most of the time which proves it in this chapter when she easily walks away from Jacob because there is never any doubt that Edward is the only one she will ever truely love.

Out of all the books, Eclipse is my favorite..but since we're talking about NM, I'll make NM comments. I agree that Bella appears to be selfish at times and it is highly annoying. However, I don't think she planned on using Jacob nor did she plan on getting feelings for him; it's something that happened. I do have a problem with her, once she realized she had feelings for Jake, & she continued to walk around all "woe is me, i'm in love with 2 guys"..that irritated me to no end & I felt like slapping some sense into her. But Jacob should have seen some of this coming, since he was extremely observant when it comes to Bella (ie:how she holds herself when she gets upset, she doesn't like listening to music, how she can't say HIS name). He should have known at the first sign of THAT Cullen or any Cullen that she'd drop him like a bad habit. But, he was blinded by love...I guess...

Totally agree with you. I feel the same way reading this for the second time. Though overall I like Bella, because she is human, and has confusing feelings, and makes mistakes.

Unless I missed it, no one's mentioned another appearance of Bella's bias.

She keeps the Cullen's secret for months, despite the fact that she believes they abandoned her, but betrays Jacob (her best friend and the person who's been taking care of her for months) the moment Alice gets back.

True. However, she did play informant w/ the wolves by telling Jake about the Cullens"special talents". I think it's fair that she told Alice about Jake..

She kept the Cullens secret as long as she could. It's not at all fair to Jake to tell Alice without even discussing it with him when he's so nearby.

I just realized this incident is in the next chapter, I should have waited to bring it up.

I feel so sorry for Jake in this chapter. He's panicking over Victoria finding Bella as he runs to her.. then hears Bella scream as she cliff dives into the water as a freakin' hurricane blows in. smh. Then he has to rescue her, which even though I was annoyed with her was glad he did, and suffer through finding out if she's okay. ::sigh::'

The flash of fire on the water is the discovery of Victoria coming to get Bella. I love that description; very creepy!

And then there's the discovery that Harry had a heart attack. :( Abruptly, I felt really sick with guilt - felt truly horrible about the brainless cliff dive. Nobody needed to be worrying about me right now. What a stupid time to be reckless. Uh yeah, no crap. Way to be so involved in hearing Edward's voice that you don't think of the consequences.. with a vampire after you, a hurricane coming in.. you could have potentially destroyed your own father. Not to mention Jacob. And Edward. smh again. Now I don't dislike Bella.. but this part aggravates me if you couldn't tell. lol.

Poor Jake is so exhausted. He's ragged and I felt the sympathy as he just crashes on the floor. Then we move into Bella's thoughts about Romeo & Juliet.. which I never particularly cared for. Yes, had its romantic moments, but not a nice story. Blech. I liked the way she adjusted it to fit what was going on with her, though.

Then we have Harry's death.. poor Billy. I wished there had been more interaction with Jake and Billy, but I liked seeing Jake go to him and take his hand. :(

The car ride home is hard.. Jake is holding onto Bella and it seems he needs that comfort for once, too, with all that has happened. And Bella starting to think about a relationship with Jake. I find it interesting her reaction to Jake laughing his mouth at her ear...

Wake up, Bella! Thinking about giving a relationship a try, feeling butterflies about kissing his shoulder, and shivering at the feel of his laugh... the girl really IS clueless. haha. And of course.. there was a part of me that wanted to smack Edward's disembodied voice for ruining that chance for Jacob.

Then of course there's the discovery of the vamp.. and Jake being harsh. As someone said SM said he knew it was a Cullen, he was just upset, and rightfully so. Bella's obsession for her fickle Romeo after Jake saved her life, stayed with her when he should have been at the hospital, and cried (yes i believe tears instead of rain) when he thought he lost her is too much for a 16 year old in love. So he leaves and Bella goes in. Nice cliffy for that chapter!

Now yes, I was harsh with Bella.. but she pissed me off a lot in this chapter. I feel sorry for her, but this was tough to swallow.

Wouldn’t Edward indifferent as he might be, want me to be as happy as possible under the circumstances? Wouldn’t enough friendly emotion linger for him to want me to want that much for me? I thought he would. He wouldn’t begrudge me this: giving just a small bit of love he didn’t want to my friend Jacob. After all it wasn’t the same love after all.
Jake pressed his warm cheek against the top of my hair.
If I turned my face to the side if I press my lips against his bare shoulder….I knew without any doubt exactly what could follow. It be very easy. There would be no explanations tonight .
But could I do it? Could I betray my absent heart to save my pathetic life?
Butterflies assaulted my stomach as I thought about turning my head.
And then, as clearly as if I were in immediate danger, Edward’s velvet voice whispered in my ear.
“Be happy,”
he told me.

I thought out of all the time Edward was gone this was the best part. Besides the cliff dive part.
And I know this is all in her head but I hope in the movie they say what she’s thinking about out loud. Its really touching and good!!! Another crying part!LOL ;P

i'm sorry but as soon as Alice is back, it's over between Jake and Bella. You just know when one Cullen comes back, they all will end up coming back. This is why i loved this chapter. Alice is back, Edward will be soon. Everyone lives happily ever after. Except Jake. But he is a wolf. So he is ok. LOL

OK, I'm here finally... and I'll probably get laughed at for being so late, but here's my comments! Sorry, at a Remembrance Day ceremony with my girls... ;)

This was a very hard chapter for me to break down. I started drafting my first response, and realized I could literally copy pages of this chapter, because SM wrote it out so clearly. So, I scrapped everything and started over … but it’s still gonna be a long one!

‘“Breathe!” a voice, wild with anxiety, ordered, and I felt a cruel stab of pain when I recognized the voice – because it wasn’t Edward’s.’ Bella’s first reaction to Jacob’s voice isn’t relief, but pain that it is not Edward – who she thought she would finally be freed from pain towards. Wow. I’m really glad Jacob didn’t know about that. It would have killed him. Jacob’s emotions really break my heart. I can only imagine what he was thinking when he heard Bella scream and jump off the cliff. His frantic panic to pull her from the water, get it out of her lungs and revive her is just testament to how much he truly cares about her, and how deeply he loves her. When she finally speaks, I love his reaction.

‘Jacob’s face blocked out the sky. “Oh!” he gasped, relief washing over his features. His eyes were wet from the rain. “Oh, Bella! Are you okay? Can you hear me? Do you hurt anywhere?”’ How many of us truly believe his eyes were wet from the rain? And when he asks her what she was doing, you can feel the pain and frustration he feels.

‘“I was searching for you. I followed the tire tracks to your truck, and then I heard you scream… why would you jump, Bella? Didn’t you notice that it’s turning into a hurricane out here? Couldn’t you have waited for me?”
“Sorry. It was stupid.”
“Yeah, it was really stupid. Look, do you mind saving the stupid stuff for when I’m around? I won’t be able to concentrate if I think you’re jumping off cliffs behind my back.”
“Sure, no problem. What happened today? Did you …find her?”
“No. She took off into the water – the bloodsuckers have the advantage there. That’s why I raced home – I was afraid she was going to double back swimming. You spend so much time on the beach…” he trailed off, a catch in his throat.’

Poor Jacob – he was going to find her because he was terrified that Victoria would find her first… and he hears her scream as she jumps off the forkin’ cliff! Tears running down his face, his voice catching… he stays with her instead of going to the hospital. He does everything for her. Bella does feel a lot of remorse for her actions. “Abruptly, I felt really sick with guilt – felt truly horrible about the brainless cliff dive. Nobody needed to be worrying about me right now. What a stupid time to be reckless.” DUR!

As they fall asleep, Bella’s dream leads into one of my favourite parts of the book. Juliet. Starting on page 370, she analyzes what Juliet would have done had Romeo just left her because he lost interest. It is very obvious that Bella relates herself to Juliet, and it is a thoughtful analogy, one worth reading. And we come to the crux.

‘What if there were more to Paris?
What if Paris had been Juliet’s friend? Her very best friend? What if he was the only one she could confide in about the whole devastating thing with Romeo? The one person who really understood her and made her feel halfway human again? What if he was patient and kind? What if he took care of her? What if Juliet knew she couldn’t survive without him? What if he really loved her, and wanted her to be happy?
And… what if she loved Paris? Not like Romeo. Nothing like that, of course. But enough that she wanted him to be happy, too?
If Romeo was really gone, never coming back, would it have mattered whether or not Juliet had taken Paris up on his offer? Maybe she should have tried to settle into the leftover scraps of life that were left behind. Maybe that would have been as close to happiness as she could get.
I sighed, and then groaned when the sigh scraped my throat. I was reading too much into the story. Romeo wouldn’t change his mind. That’s why people still remembered his name, always twined with hers: Romeo and Juliet. That’s why it was a good story. “Juliet gets dumped and ends up with Paris” would have never been a hit.
Jacob is Bella’s Paris, as she’d described him.’

Billy and Sam coming back, announcing that Harry is dead, is so sad. Jacob attempting to comfort his father, and Billy’s obvious grief, are touching. Bella’s thought that she is “a peeping tom, peering through the cracks at a private sorrow that wasn’t mine”, is evidence of her awareness of this sorrow.

Then we come to the truck ride. Page 374 starts it all - Jake helps her out to the truck, and once they are in the truck, he physically cannot help but pull her to him, as he’s come so very close to losing her that day. He needs to feel her there, beside him. It reminds me of Bella holding herself together – Jacob is using her to hold himself together. And Bella ponders, putting her Paris theory to the test in her mind, thinking about Jacob as being her possible happiness.

‘I would have to commit to this – commit as much of me as there was left, every one of the broken pieces. It was the only way to be fair to him. Would I? Could I?
Would it be so wrong to try to make Jake happy? Even if the love I felt for him was no more than a weak echo of what I was capable of, even if my heart was far away, wandering and grieving after my fickle Romeo, would it be so very wrong? … He threw his other arm around me, crushing me against his chest, binding me to him. Again, this felt nice. Almost like being a whole person again… “Sorry. I know you don’t feel exactly the way I do, Bells. I swear I don’t mind. I’m just so glad you’re okay that I could sing – and that’s something no one wants to hear.”’ Cute line, the last chuckle we’ll have in this chapter.

Bella ponders that Edward would want her to be happy, and considers kissing Jacob’s shoulder, knowing what would follow. And then:

‘Edward’s velvet voice whispered in my ear.
“Be happy,” he told me.
I froze.
Jacob felt me stiffen and released me automatically, reaching for the door.
Wait, I wanted to say. Just a minute. But I was still locked in place, listening to the echo of Edward’s voice in my head.
Storm-cooled air blew through the cab of the truck.
“OH!” The breath whooshed out of Jacob like someone had punched him in the gut. “Holy crap!”
“What’s wrong?”
“Vampire.”’

Jacob thinks that Bella froze because she doesn’t feel the same way about him. And in that split second decision to respect her wishes and back off, everything changes. He smells a vampire, and things go to hell in a hand basket from here on out. Jake’s immediate instinct would have been to phase – but he cares so much for Bella, he wants to protect her and get her out of harms’ way first. That instinct can NOT be easy to overcome. He will do ANYTHING for Bella. So I imagine that the utter betrayal and hurt he feels next would just kill him inside.

“Stop!”
“What?!”
“It’s not Victoria. Stop, stop! I want to go back.”

She wants to go back to everything that Jacob hates. She wants to go right back to something that forced Jake and his friends to become the wolves that they now are. She KNOWS this, and she still wants to go back.

‘Jacob’s face hardened while I stared at him, congealing into the bitter mask that I’d thought was gone for good. Just before he had the mask in place, I caught the spasm of betrayal that flashed in his eyes. His hands were still shaking. He looked ten years older than me…
“No. Take yourself back, Bella.” His voice was a slap – I flinched as the sound of it struck me. His jaw clenched and unclenched.’

He immediately switches into wolf-mode – easier to shut his feelings down and take on the pack mentality then to deal with the fact that the woman he loves is literally going to the enemy, open-armed. And he leaves her. Right there, in the middle of the street. I appreciate all he was going through, but still, he LEFT her there? All he knew was unfamiliar vampire, and he left her there? I have a hard time with that.

‘Remorse pinned me against the seat for one long second. What had I just done to Jacob? But remorse couldn’t hold me very long.’

For all that she was seriously considering taking a chance with Jake, the very thought that she can have some part of Edward in her life again, is enough for her to throw all else away. And it is right at that moment that her subconscious reveals what the flame on the water really was. Once again, SM leaves us wondering exactly who is in the room, and what will happen.

Oh Snowy I love your comments I agree with everything you say except that it wasn't right for Jake to leave Bella. After all he did for her she chose the cullens over him again. They both knew the vamp in her house wasn't victoria and she was so sure it a was cullen so he left, hurt and betrayed by the person he would give his life for. Bella's heart belongs to Edward but she leed Jake to belive he had a chance. Not with her words but with her actions.

See, I don't know that Jake DID know it was the cullens - he'd never smelled them after his first transformation, so would he know their scent? That's an interesting question I'd love to have SM answer one day. If he without a doubt KNEW that it was a Cullen, that would be different. But I'm not sure that he did....



And yes, he was hurt & betrayed, and I agree with what you're saying. Bella did most definitely lead him on with her actions - not with the intention of cruelty, but still nonetheless, it happened.

Again, absolutely love it!

I like Jake up until the end of this chapter. I think it was very immature to just live Bella there to just "die". Yes, there was a Cullen in the house, but he doesn't know that. He just knows that there was a vampire. And I know he was hurt and betrayed, but he should have made sure that it was safe and then left her there. This chapter and from here on out is why I am not Team Jacob.

Yeah, that's why I tend to be a bit more forgiving of Jake than others. Everything he went through, and she literally walks right back into the enemy's arms, in his eyes. Do I think he did the right thing in just leaving her there? HALE NO!!! But he's been panicked, terrified, pushed away (in his mind), lost a close family friend, been on a vampire hunt, and still coming to terms with his wolfishness *giggles* I made a new word!

Anyway, that's a whole HALE of a lot to deal with... I'm looking forward to seeing how they portray this in *gasp* LESS THAN A WEEK!!!

If you're referring to Eclipse, Alice didn't see Victoria's plan because she had created an army of newborns that had never seen or been in contact with Bella. That's why their orders from Victoria were specifically not to see Bella until the battle scene. Because they couldn't envision Bella in their plan, Alice couldn't see anything happening to her.

At least that's how I interpreted it.

I totally agree with your assesment here (at least on Jacob. I like the rest of the wolf pack okay. Seth is definitely my fav & he's not like the rest.) Love--Love--Loved this chapter, I dont know why, but the first time I read it, I new something big was about to happen, you could just tell by the way Bella was getting too close to Jacob and you knew Edward would be coming back at some point. But the end when she recognized Carlisle's car...my heart literaly skipped a few beats and I was SO excited that we would finally see the Cullens again in one way or another.

I get put-out with Bella at this point. She spends so much energy holding on to being miserable. She gives Jacob just enough of herself to keep him around but never enough to see that *life* post vampire is possible. Some needs to find her a 12-step program. She's more or less admitted she's an addict. Addicted to the Cullens, to Jacob, to her hallucinations. Then her blatant denial that she has *those* kind of feelings for Jacob.
"Phase or get her out of here" he is always in such a protection mode with Bella he's not sure which way to protect her now. Then the car, and Bella tossing him under the bus. I understand why he stormed off. I imagine his ache would have been similar to what Bella felt when Edward left her in the woods. And he is only 16.
When I read this the first time, last year, I remember thinking, Yes! a Cullen. Then Bella walks in figures out Victoria in the water and I was all, "Holy Crow" their gonna eat her, then being taken by surprise that it was Alice. All in 20 seconds of reading. Kudos Stephenie

You left out what I think is the most important part of the whole chapter: Edwards voice saying "Be happy" turning point, and if Alice wasn't there, she would have listned to him. And that proves that Edward was right, she would have healed, of course it would still have bothered her a lot, but still, she would have been happy with Jacob.

Bella would have been happy, until Jake imprinted...then it'd be Jake causing all the heartbreak & where would Bella be then? A bitter, broken young girl, just like Leah. Does anyone ever take that into consideration, the other "love triange"? I think SM threw this in to show what happens w/ this kind of intense love. Sam had no choice; neither did Bella & Edward. Think about it: she had to ASK herself: can I be with him? Wth?! If you have to ask if you can be with someone, you're forcing yourself to love them...that doesn't make sense to me...

Yes, Edward was great in that way. It was also one of his annoying traits, though, imo. He was all possessive and i know what's best for you, then suddenly rolls over and plays dead while Jake tries to show Bella she's in love with him, too.

As for the imprint.. i didn't see anywhere that it was guaranteed every single wolf would imprint. Embry never imprinted. Seth never imprinted. Granted, there was no story for them really.. but it's not a guarantee they will. Until this pack it was rare. And quite frankly.. love's a risk. People take that risk every day even if they could be hurt in the long run.

And really.. Bella took that risk with Edward. He could've lost control and killed her. He could have been ripped apart by the Volturi. There were risks with that relationship, too. It worked out, though. Who's to say it wouldn't have worked with Jake? ::shrug::

Edward is not a man...he's a vampire so it's different). People forget that Jacob is still a human boy who has only lived 16 years, Edward is someone who has lived for over a century. He's in love with this girl who, after saving her life, chooses a Cullen over him putting her own life in danger (so he assumes). He let's her choose her own path, which is why he lets her go home but of course this hurts him so why not say how he feels. This is the basis of their foundation...Jake has always told her what he feels, even if it's hurtful. Sometimes people need to hear it, like Bella. Also, people should not discriminate against Jacob just because he has something against the vampires. Hello, the vampires feel the same way about warewolves and no one says anything about that! It's all ignorance and of course Bella is the only one who understands and knows that they won't hurt her. I'm Switz all the way, only because I can really put myself into SM character and fall in love with BOTH men, which Bella DID (so don't push all the blame on Jacob).

Meaningless… but when I slowly struggled back to consciousness, Juliet was on my mind.
Jacob was still asleep; he'd slumped down to the floor and his breathing was deep and even.
The house was darker now than before, it was black outside the window. I was stiff, but
warm and almost dry. The inside of my throat burned with every breath I took.
I was going to have to get up–at least to get a drink. But my body just wanted tc he here
limp, to never move again.
Instead of moving, I thought about Juliet some more.
I wondered what she would have done if Romeo had left her, not because he was banished,
but because he lost interests What if Rosalind had given him the time of day, and he'd
changed his mind? What if, instead of marrying Juliet, he'd just disappeared?
I thought I knew how Juliet would feel.
She wouldn't go back to her old life, not really. She wouldn't ever have moved on, I was sure
of that. Even if she'd lived until she was old and gray, every time she closed her eyes, it

I wondered if she would have married Paris in the end, just to please her parents, to keep the
peace. No, probably not, I decided. But then, the story didn't say much about Paris. He was
just a stick figure–a placeholder, a threat, a deadline to force her hand.
What if there were more to Paris?
What if Paris had been Juliet's friend? Her very best friend? What if he was the only one she
could confide in about the whole devastating thing with Romeo? The one person who really
understood her and made her feel halfway human again? What if he was patient and kind?
What if he took care of her? What if Juliet knew she couldn't survive without him? What if
he really loved her, and wanted her to be happy?
And… what if she loved Paris? Not like Romeo. Nothing like that, of course. But enough
that she wanted him to be happy, too?
Jacob's slow, deep breathing was the only sound in the room–like a lullaby hummed to a
child, like the whisper of a rocking chair, like the ticking of an old clock when you had
nowhere you needed to go…It was the sound of comfort.
If Romeo was really gone, never coming back, would it have mattered whether or not Juliet
had taken Paris up on his offer? Maybe she should have tried to settle into the leftover scraps
of life that were left behind. Maybe that would have been as close to happiness as she could
get.
I sighed, and then groaned when the sigh scraped my throat. I was reading too much into the
story. Romeo wouldn't change his mind. That's why people still remembered his name,
always twined with hers: Romeo and Juliet. That's why it was a good story. "Juliet gets
dumped and ends up with Paris" would have never been a hit.
I closed my eyes and drifted again, letting my mind wander away from the stupid play I didn't
want to think about anymore. I thought about reality instead–about jumping off the cliff and
what a brainless mistake that had been. And not just the cliff, but the motorcycles and the
whole irresponsible Evel Knievel bit. What if something bad happened to me? What would
that do to Charlie? Harry's heart attack had pushed everything suddenly into perspective for
me. Perspective that I didn't want to see, because–if I admitted to the truth of it–it would
mean that I would have to change my ways. Could I live like that?
Maybe. It wouldn't be easy; in fact, it would be downright miserable to give up my
hallucinations and try to be a grown-up. But maybe I should do it. And maybe I could. If I
had Jacob.
I couldn't make that decision right now. It hurt too much. I'd think about something else.*

Ok, I have been following this community re-read religiously. We obviously have a team Edward writing these little summaries. I honestly never had an issue until this chapter. She said that this is where the "honeymoon ends" and her detest for Jacob begins. Well yeah, Jacob does ditch her. But as the writer of this says "can't Jacob tell the difference bettween Carlisles scent and Victorias" !!! Well ha! You said it yourself! This is exactly why he didn't stick around! He knew it was one of the cullens, therefore, Bella was safe to go into the house by herself. He just didn't want to stick around for the reunion! Remember: Jacob loves Bella too. Don't you think that her going back to edward just like that is painful(of course, we all read new moon-breaking dawn)? Jacob wouldn't be able to handle the rejection of it all... So THAT my twilight family, is why I have a hard time agreeing with "the end of the honeymoon" theory. (:

I thought i was the only one. I mentioned that twice already. In eclipse pg 398 the werewolves did not know the cullens individual scent.

each werewolf takes his turn "sniffing" the cullens for their individual scent. Even Jacob. So like you i am also confused. that right there tells me that the werewolves have to expose themselves to the scent. the cullens left before jacob became a werewolf.

I think everyone's trying to justify why Jacob would leave her in a possibly dangerous situation. But maybe he actually did just that. Left her in a dangerous situation without knowing whether or not it was a Cullen.

I think he knew it wasn't Victoria since they were chasing and looking out for her, but who knows if it could've been another dangerous vamp? Yea he was hurt with Bella being so eager to drop him for Edward just like that, but I don't think it was a good idea to leave.

He said he'd rather see her dead than transfromed. And Jake's the one who got hut not Bella (as always), she forgot about him the second she jumped into Alice's lap.

so my theory is that jake totally knew it was one of the cullens. but didnt say anything in the hopes that bella would think it would be victoria and leave with him back to la push.

This is one of my favorite chapters! Alice comes back wohoo!! The first time I read New Moon I really thought it was Victoria who was waiting for Bella at her house. I was like jumping in the air when I read that it was Alice, I couldn't stop smiling...lol
When Jacob said ''I really hope you don't die'', I was like...what??!!...where did the real Jacob go...I can understand that he feels a bit betrayed, but I think that Jake should've reacted differently. He didn't even know if it was a trick or not, it could have been Victoria there waiting for Bella, I think he should have made sure that Bella was save before he ran into the woods. And Jake should have understood why she wanted to go back..he shouldn't have been angry about that because he knows how much the Cullen family means to Bella..he knows that she loves not just Edward but his entire family as well. So he shouldn't have been so mad at Bella...So that's my opinion:)

After re reading this post, and reading all of the comments, I have come to a conclusion..

They were about to make out for christ sakes! Don't you think that line may have been his last ditch effort to make Bella think twice about going into the house, to scare her into staying with him, to going home with him and whatever else... (lol)

Everyone was saying he's not much of a man for leaving, but I have to believe he knew she would be safe. Otherwise why WOULD he leave? It's out of character.

Each vampire has a different scent. From what i understand (Eclipse pg 398) a werewolf would have to familiarize himself with that particular scent. (Just because they are werewolves does not mean they will be familair with their individual scents automatically)jacob knows victoria's because he was exposed to it when the pack was chasing her. The cullens left before Jacob became a werewolf so how would he know their individual scent. I'm sure he did not know it was victoria. but he could not have known that it was a cullen. He himself asked bella what if it is a trick? Victoria could have sent another vampire. He still should have double checked to be sure of Bella's safety.

That's what I think, too. And I kinda doubt Jake even took off completely after he said that. It definitely wasn't a nice thing to say, but he's always protected her no matter what.. so I don't see him running off w/o realizing it WAS one of the Cullen's. That would be very ooc of him.

He knew it was a different vamp because of the smell. the cullens smelled different because they dont drink human blood and bella was so sure it was a cullen that's why he left her there. and i mean put yourself in his shoes he was everything to bella up until that point and then she just forgot everything they had gone through because her vamps were back. i was mad at bella not him.

Deep down he knows the Cullens won't want to hurt her, but I think he's not wanting her to go to them because he knows it will be the end of their relationship together. He truly loves her and would never let her go into a house with Victoria there.

I think he would definitely know if it was Victoria specifically, as they had been chasing her scent forever. But, I dont think he can be sure that it wasn't a Cullen. He hadn't spent any time around them at all sense becoming a wolf and any of their scent on the land would have greatly diminished. So, while he knew it wasn't Victoria, it could have just as easily been someone doing her dirty work.

I said the same thing. Even though he knew it was not victoria, because he is familiar with her scent, she could have sent someone else. I made a reference to pg 398 of eclipse. Each werewolf starting with sam and followed by jacob had to "sniff" each cullen to familiarize themselves with their individual scent.
so how is it that jacob could be sure if it was a cullen when they left before he became werewolf.

1st time commenting, so here goes.

Jake wants nothing more that to protect Bella, (which we all know is not the easiest of undertakings!). i like to think that he and Edward are very much alike in this respect. Sadly, Jake has this new wolf temperment that he's not completely in control of. He gets so p.o.'ed that Bella wants to throw herself into danger. So Jake doesn't handle it the way that he should, yeah, he probably should have just stuck it out to make sure she was ok, but i think he has gotten so comfortable with her around (running with the wolves if you will) that he forgot that she's a "vampire girl".

This chapter sent me through a rollercoaster of emotions.

1. JACOB SAVED BELLA! omg that was such a relief, I really had no idea what was going to happen next. Maybe Victoria grabbed her and the wolfpack came to Bella's rescue. Maybe Edward really popped up out of nowhere and we learn of another power he head? (LOL I know *rolls eyes*) Then... it's Jacob, phew... no complications just Jacob:)

2. BELLA CONSIDERS PARIS! I was about arguing with my book at this point! Don't you do this to Edward Bella... we LOVE him. I couldn't believe that she was going to kiss him.. and I honestly didn't know what to think.

3. MERCEDES OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE! My heart just about leaped through my chest. I didn't think it was Edward, but I knew it was a Cullen. Why were they here? Did something bad happen? I had no idea

Hi. I am not caught up yet but I would like everybody to know that Alex Meraz will be on Rachel Ray today!!

YAY!!!! This makes my day everyday!!! Here goes....

Let me begin by saying........... SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! Holy hale we're finally to the good-vampires-are-coming-back chapter. Yeah, yeah right now the book wants us all think it's Carlisle and maybe even Victoria.... but we know better. *sticks tongue out at New Moon for trying to trick me again*

Bella's reaction though causes quite the negative reaction. Enter Angry Jake into the story. And as much as we've been missing the Cullens and hurrying their return, I'm going to miss still-nice-but-slightly-pissed-off Jake. I love Jake's response to Bella just before he storms off into the woods to transform. "Bye, Bella," he called back over his shoulder. "I really hope you don't die." Jake was more than hurt by her eagerness to run with open arms back to her bloodsuckers that left her and (though I'm Team Edward and a Cullen lover) I can understand why he would be upset.
And when I read Jake's initial reaction to the vampire scent I can't help but flash forward to the constant bickering in both Eclipse and New Moon about each other's awful stench. *looks forward to blonde vampire jokes* Jake is all over the place in this scene too. His out loud thinking cracks me up. "Phase or get her out of here?" he hissed at himself... "Right. Get you out."

Bella has a lot going on in her head this chapter too. *sigh* Oh Paris, if thou couldst only sparkle like Romeo. *sigh*
The poor girl wanders in detail through the play and tries to figure out what would happen if Paris were Juliet's best friend and Romeo was never coming back. And all the while Bella can't even admit that she's thinking about her and Jake and not the play. Her conclusion on the Paris matter cracks me up though... "Juliet gets dumped and ends up with Paris" would have never been a hit... LMAO Bella sarcasm at work again.. I love it.

And I must reiterate Stephenie Meyer's awesomeness at scaring us. *raises Stephenie please write a suspense/thriller book flag* That woman knows how to write a cliffhanger, and how to scare us silly. Her description of Victoria's hair on the water and then Bella's realization that it was Victoria... *pauses to shiver*.. AAAHHHH!
Jake's line "That's why I raced home -- I was afraid she was going to double back swimming. You spend so much time on the beach..." scared the pee out of me. I could just imagine standing on that beach all alone and seeing an evil vampire coming to kill me. Yikes. And the worry in Jake's voice makes me wanna cry... he's still so sweet, the way he raced home thinking Bella might be in trouble. (And it's a good thing he did too).

But the part when i just got so conflicted, was when she was Giving up, she was just accepting that Edward was soo Gone and that he would not come back,and that Jake was the best for her, Hell yeah, Jacob was beyond that (considering that Edward is not in the Plot) in here, is when i actually almost fall in love with him, tellng her he could actually sing cuz he was so happy she was ok.
And when she was just, IDK giving up (i dont know hot to say this cuz, Jacob is such a great, no, an amazing Guy, and he would be the best for her, idont know if she would be the best for him but Jacob would accept her anyway, but only if edward was really not coming back, i love Jake, I love Edward, awww chagrin)
Jake smells a vampire (what!!) (of course we all know whitch vamp is)
and all the rudeness..... he was just to mean, but Bella hurt him, and of course our dear bella is feeling so bad bout the fact that she did so, and then she finds out that victoria was on the water too....

Yes! During this re-read I have honestly come to love Jake. He really does love Bella and is genuinely worried and scared for her. Then he goes and leaves her to face a vampire and is so rude about it.... *shakes head*
This chapter definitely has LOTS going on and has us all squirming to read more... =D

I appreciate Jacob and I understand him but I'm with Edward. I think this book helps us to explore a different kind of love; that's why I have an appreciation for it and Jacob's role in Bella's life. Don't mean to jump too far into the future, but if Jacob would just wait, he'll reap all the benefits of a love like Edward & Bella's...

Yes, I've said this several times and it just gets more and more true the further I read into the book and analyze what I'm reading. I could not stand Jake the first couple of times I read these books. But I have come to love him just for what he is. And yes Jake gets the best of both worlds in the end... his best friend AND his soulmate. =D

I love that SM constantly referenced R&J. I'm not a huge fan of plays, but I adored Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet. It made me want to reread that and Wuthering Heights.

"'Juliet gets dumped and ends up with Paris' would have never been a hit" is one of my favorite lines in the chapter.

I feel bad for Jake at this point, but at the same time I think I would react the same way as Bella. Seeing that car and all the possibilities of who's inside it, when you thought all of that was gone forever?! It's like time stops. Part of me is screaming at Jake wishing he would just let her go to her happy vampires, but another part is screaming at Bella to be conscious of the fact that had it not been for Jake, she'd be a lifeless blob. I wish she could have contained her excitement for the vampire possibilities a little better, knowing Jake was sitting right there and all. If I were Jake, it would make me feel like I was a complete convenience being dropped like a hot potato.

I really like that she referenced so much classic literature. I'm sure that many teens and adults alike were now wanting to read things they otherwise never would have been exposed to.
On the other note, I can totally understand Jake's frustration with Bella. But at the same time I was just as excited as her when she saw that car!! I'm not so sure I would have been able to contain myself either!

Completely! I'm only 20, so I'm part of the generation that's not really interested in classic literature. I read Wuthering Heights in high school, but at the time it didn't make any sense to me. So I really want to read it again. I read R&J and Macbeth in high school too, but those two I instantly fell in love with. The Scarlet Letter, however, is a complete ball of confusion for me. I understand bits and pieces, but it just never registers with me.

The moment Bella saw that car, I felt better. I was really beginning to think they weren't ever coming back.

I have a confession to make. I am an English teacher but my excuse is English is not my native language and I read it as a student and quite a lot of other classic books because English is my hobby and devotion. Since January I live with Twilight and never miss a day to read this site for quite a long time now.

LOL that's hilarious! And thus continues my search for someone other than an English teacher who likes The Scarlet Letter. lol I have literally never met a single person who likes it that isn't an english teacher. It's amazing to me. That alone makes me want to reread it and understand it just so I can be "that person" that doesn't teach English but actually likes the book.

The Scarlet Letter is also mentioned in Speak with Kristen. I love Kristen in that film as well. By the way, I quite liked The Scarlet Letter both lilm and book. Maybe because it isn´t a compulsory reading in my country.

I knew it was referenced somewhere, but didn't recall it being in the Twilight saga. Speak was a great movie! Yeah, Idk about everywhere else, but in my city everyone was "warned" about being forced to read The Scarlet Letter in high school.

Yeah I'm 25. I loved Wuthering Heights in high school and R&J. I also could not stand the Scarlet Letter... ugghh *shudders at those memories* Maybe if I gave it another shot it might be easier... not sure that I want to though lol..

haha. The only people who seem to like that book are English teachers. I watched the movie to try and get a better understanding, and I couldn't even get into the movie. Maybe I'll try and reread it someday. That's one of those books I wish I loved.

top 20? This is one of my fave chapters... i pretty much loved how attentive and sweet jacob was... up until 379...why would you be so willing to destroy the woman you love? You know this hurts her...and while i understand that her indecision hurts you... YOUR supposed to be her new protector!...not a new source of hurt....wtf?

At this point jake loses quite a few cool points...and I anxiously wait for alice to swipe him...but she doesnt, cuz shes alice... and Yes bells is a hot funky mess this entire book and most of the next one... but just as i said before...you cannot choose who you love...

JACOB doesnt realize that until Breaking Dawn (he still has so much growing up to do...which is why i usually give him a pass...but know that he's wrong for bella)... U cant choose... at some point your heart just willingly surrenders to someone... and u can never get the white flag back...no matter what they do... Jacob is surviving... Edward is living. Thats the diff. You got a boy, and a man....one that would do anything to save you/keep you happy (Edward), and another that would do anything to keep you (Jacob)...its just not the same. Period.

And BTW Jake is a good guy...just not the right one for her...deep down she knows that...she knows that she could have a life with him... like in eclipse when she gives up on Jake and Edward says "he's never seen her in so much pain".... and she basically says "Its been worse"

BTW again... Victoria is out there...and good thing Jake was there to save her...and Sam...who knows what wouldve happened? See Jake is a good kid...but thats my issue...KID!... the phasing in the car thing really got to me...but the kiss thing was brutal...wow bells...thats wouldve been sincerely messed up

See why I'm Team Edward all the way, even if he made the callous mistake of leaving in the first place, it was because of Bella's safety and you will see in Eclipse how different Jake and Edward are when it comes to someone being in Bella's house! Deeper meaning of New Moon:

Love is emotional and irrational, not logical.
She demonstrates this well using the obvious differences btwn Edward and Jacob and their "fit" into her human world. Edward was never the logical choice- he was dangerous and all consuming for Bella. Jacob was the logical choice - safe, fun and allowed her to be herself (he wasn't everything to her, she sometimes put herself first with him).

When Edward left, all Bella had was her illogical and dangerous love and need for him, which she acted upon (to keep him "near") many times. She did this at the expense of everyone she knew and loved; including herself.

In the end, love caused Bella to make two ultimately emotional and irrational choices, which thankfully led to her happily ever after: a)cliff dive to produce a hallucination of her true love b)trip to Italy to save a man that she loves and believes has abandoned her, from vampires who will probably kill her. Both decisions were very dangerous and both were made in response to the all-consuming love and need she felt for Edward.

Love is emotional and irrational: but love will prevail.

Jacob trusted Bella when she said she wasn't in danger, unlike Edward the controlling vampire.

Edward was also stupid enough to leave Bella unprotected after his family killed Victoria's mate.

Edward "going in with guns blazing"? Ha! He's a wimp who does nothing to protect humanity (unlike the werewolves), and when he thinks Bella is dead, he courageously tries to commit suicide-by-sparkling.

And what about jacob who assaults bella because he wanted her to kiss him. And when that did not work he had to stoop lower than the gutter by manipulating her. Your bitterness and hatred towards the cullens and edward makes you very blind. yes the werewolves are protectors thats part of who they are. but lets give the cullens some credit too. do you have any idea how much self control is needed to resist feeding on human blood. it's not easy as they make you think it is. they chose not to feed on humans but on animals depriving themselves because they have compassion and love for humans. What about Carlise he spends all his time in the hospital helping the sick. why does he does he do it. Not for the money he has no need of that. Don t let your preference for the werewolves and jacob blind you. The cullens are just as good as the werewolves.

Personally I think Meyer decided to deliberately character-assassinate both Jacob and Charlie in that section in order to dicredit the only tow people who objected to Edward.

Not feeding on humans makes their lives easier in many ways and if they actually cared about humans they'd be doing more to fight human-murdering vampires instead of playing host to them and allowing them to eat anyone Edward isn't obsessed with.

Carlisle has no need of money because Alice uses her pwers to cheat the stock-market, and how does being a doctor in an easy job in a healthy small town qualify as anything heroic? He could work in the most dangerous disease-infested places in the world but instead chooses an easy job which enhances his staus.

This is the difference between Edward and Jacob. Edward loves bella unconditionally. Here here. Don't get me wrong I understand the appeal of Jacob, there are times he even makes me smile during New Moon. BUT when push comes to shove I never did understand how there could even be a "Team Jacob" or "Team Edward" debate. Jacob was a boy, Edward a man...and although the boy was wonderful when Bella needed him most...he was still just a boy in the end. Bella (aka the middle aged child) needed the man. It was written in the stars. Edward was inevitably her "destiny".

Edward was just as much a boy in regards to relationships. It was his first one. I hardly think that was why she chose him! Edward made mistakes, too. The sun doesn't shine out of his a$$, you know. haha.

Charlie described Jake as being mature for his age actually.. because of taking care of Billy it aged him. I truly think if Bella had loved him the way he wanted her to he would've been so much calmer and those immature moments would have been fewer and far between. :)

I know that it's their sense of smell, both Jacob's and Edward's, that causes them to react the way they do. Sure he knew it was a Cullen, he didn't have to go back. Edward in Eclispe knew it WASN"T someone he knew (including some of the Volturi) so he reacted the way he did. I truly love the story in all it's intensity, but take Jacob's place for each moment that Bella "recognizes" that she's hurting him, and his actions will clearly explain themselves. He's still has raw emotions when it comes to Bella, volatile to say the least. She "dies" when Edward leaves her in the woods, Jacob dies a little each time she rejects him.

If he knew then why did he ask bella what if it's a trick? There would be no need to ask that question if he really was sure that it was a cullen. As far as the scent how did jacob know each of the cullens scent. he became a werewolf after they left. He knew Victoria's scent because they had been chasing her. What if victoria had sent another vampire like she did with laurent.

In eclipse the werewolves did not know the scent of each of the cullens. Pg 398. unless jacob was around a cullen after he became a werewolf, he would not have known their individual scent. so there is no way he could have known it was one of them. and again even if he knew it was not Victoria how did he know it was not another vampire sent by victoria. The bottom line is that he should have checked.

It was like he wanted her to question herself. Like when I ask my kids if they really think they don't need a jacket. I know. I want them to question their actions.

When did it become a matter of choice. bella was not choosing any Cullen over Jacob. she simply was excited at the thought that one of them had returned. What exactly did you want her to do. Was she supposed to turn alice away or any other cullen simply because jacob wanted to behave like an immature brat.. And i don t want to hear anything about the treaty. there is nothing in the treaty that says that bella cannot be friends with a vampire and a werewolf. if that were the case then how is it that bella and jacob were hanging out at la push in eclipse while she is in a relationship with edward. The moment that big crybaby jacob felt betrayed (Boo Hoo) he ran away. When you love someone it should be unconditional. That's true love (Edward's love for bella). it should not matter if the person whom you love does not love you the way you want them to because no one has control over how much they love someone. Jacob loves bella only because SM says that he does. as far as i'm concerned a 16 year old male teenager, who is mentally 13 years old when it comes to relationships and still wet behind the ears, knows nothing about love. Instead of wasting time in eclipse trying to make bella realize that she was in love with him he should have done something useful like going to edward for some tips on how to treat the women you love. His behavior assault/ manipualtion was totally inexcusable. I do realize that some of his behavior stems from his immaturity. but assault/manipulation has nothing to do with immaturity it a matter of ethics and respect especially when the girl is telling you no. Something he should have learned at home.

The only reason that Edward left was because he thought that Bella would be safer without them. He had no idea that Victoria was going to come back after her. He thought after they killed James that she was gone forever. Had he thought for one second that she was going to come back he never would have left.

I agree with you that EDWARD is "THE MAN" but I know the chapter you are referring to in Eclipse... and yes, Edward did immediately go check Bella's room - No Vamps, when Jacob came over (after speaking with Edward and it was Jacob who suggested that he (Jacob) go over to catch the "scent") - When he arrived he knew Edward had just left (seconds before) and already knew other than Edward there were no Vamps in the house... No need to rush - he wanted to spend time with Bella... then he got back to doing what he does best..taking care of her.

I am TEAM EDWARD; but my heart is a little torn over with Jacob..

Considering how Jacob feels about Bella, he would've never let her enter the house if he suspected that someone other than a Cullen was in there. Also, no one has written about the whole almost kiss between Bella & Jacob, Hello? Jacob is not stupid and given his extra senses, he must have know Bella was thinking about kissing him. It was an extremely intimate moment. Then, he smells Cullen! What a blow, missed it by that much. He came so close and knew it was over before it even got started.

He does care VERY MUCH about Bella but he is also very immature. Think about it... He does not turn into a werewolf for the first time until the Cullens have left town. How would he know how the Cullens smell at this point? Also why does he check on her later to make sure she is alive?

It is clear in the book that his assumptions about Bella's feelings for him are wrong. And he does try to force a deep friendship into something more.

Don't get me wrong, he is an amazing friend and a great guy but he is very immature.

You are absolutely right. Edward would have NEVER left her to go into the house alone. Especially if the "enemy" was in there, regardless of which one it was. To Jacob the Cullens are the enemy and if he was a little more mature he would have stood by her to make sure she was safe.

You are also right about the forcing himself on her throughout the saga. People seem to forget that part.

Do you not remember the part in New Moon where he was telling Bella He never knew the Bond Victoria shared with James?? Her over confidence in James was clouding Edward from seeing the true bond they had (see Chapter: The Truth Edward explains this). It is my understanding that Edward didn't even know that was her mate for sure.....they were the 3 vampires in a coven and V and J decided to bring the fight to the Cullens.

He knows vampires mate for life, and travel in very small groups, so what were the chances Victoria wasn't his mate?

Meyer's editors asked her to squeeze more dollars out of the series by adding two more books. Originally she was planning on jumping straight from Twilight to what was then called Forever Dawn.

Edward leaving was a plot-device and completely out of character.

He was way too possessive to ever leave Bella.

Edward did not leave bella to the mercy of victoria. he had no idea that james and Victoria were mates. He mentioned this to bella at the end of new moon. Edward was tracking victoria unsucessfully not because she was after bella because again he did not know. he simply wanted to finish what he started when he killed james. James did not act alone he had victoria to help him. After james was killed Victoria got away.

Trying to distract himself.. remember vampires are easily distracted LOL

I think most people are aware Jake isn't perfect. Neither is Edward as you said. But I DO place most of the blame on Bella - and yet I still like her - because she hurt Jake in NM and she hurt both Jake AND Edward in Eclipse. And no, I don't particularly think Edward is the better man... they both make their mistakes, but in the end they BOTH truly love Bella.

In any other story the Cullens would be seen as a bunch of opportunistic lowlifes who collaborate with mass-murderers, and take advantage of their protection instead of fighting them.

Yes I'm sure red_sea, you would hate BD but I agree you would enjoy the Jacob section, it's from his POV and there are these hilarious conversations with Jacob silent and Edward responding by reading Jake's mind. Those parts are really well written. Or read the whole thing and think what fun you will have talking smack on a breaking dawn fansite;)

I liked Jacob's sections of Eclipse as well (with the exception of the forced kiss which I consider deliberate character-assassination).

Hmmm, perhaps you might want to read the middle book of BD (by itself). It was interesting to get things from his perspective. You might also like the Jacob outtake on Stephenie Meyers website. I forget which book it's under, but it's not BD and it's written from J's perspective.

Jacob has always had a boy crush on Bella.. We seen it the first time in the Twilight books and we were presented with info of their child hood mud pie afternoons. Please...
On another note, we start seeing how truly strong Bella is.. She knows in the pit of her stomach that that car is one of the Cullens. Her sanctuary. We seen how strong she was in Twilight and we seen her try to weather the storm of loosing her true love. I think in this chapter we get to see how determined she is as an individual. I actually really loved this chapter.. Its very Wuthering Heights of SM.. It snaps Bella into reality without consciously knowing it. She is confused about her feelings for Jacob, she knows that she cares deeply for him but she also knows that she could never commit fully to him. That's it.. enuf said

I agree with you 100%; some things are added for dramatic effect. But that particular scene never sat well with me. Edward leaving without secretly making sure that she made it home ok... its almost the equivolent of Edward cursing or sticking his foot out to make Bella trip. Maybe I'm the one being dramatic now, but it just seemed very out-of-character for him. I've always put a band-aid over it with the idea that he had to leave without looking back or he would never be able to follow through. Just a thought. :)

No I think thats a very good thought. I think im the movie we're going to get a small glipse of what its like for Edward to leave her. We don't really see that in the book. I mean he talks about it constantly at the end and through the next 2 books in the series, but I've heard that in the movie it's going to be a little more from his perspective right when he leaves her, and that they might show him in Africa or wherever they decide to put him in the movie... it could be cool.

• Jacob saves Bella, brings her to the beach and beats the water out of her until she breaths. And she is disappointed that the voice she hears telling her to breathe is not Edward’s. Poor Jacob, even when she’s dying, she still wants Edward more. When she looks at Jacob she says she sees his eyes are wet from the rain. Right. He just plucked the woman he loves out of the water and it’s the rain that has his eyes wet. I guess since you almost died you get a free pass on being stupid right now…
• How crazy must Jacob feel right now? Had to go into the water as a wolf, phase mid-rescue and drag the lifeless Bella back to shore. Stays with her, always there protecting her. He never shorts on the devotion, does he? I think it is different from how Edward protects. Jacob doesn’t order her around, being all superior, he just is there doing what she wants to do and protecting her along the way.
• Harry Clearwater has a heart attack. So saw that one coming, but it at least shows Bella how precious life is and it is a wakeup call of sorts. I am really happy Stephenie put it in there because I think I would have had to rip the book right out of my 12 year old niece’s hands if she didn’t.
• This is the chapter where she really starts considering being with Jacob and putting her life back together. I love this line: “If Romeo was really gone, never coming back, would it have mattered whether or not Juliet had taken Paris up on his offer? Maybe she should have tried to settle into the leftover scraps of life that were left behind. Maybe that would have been as close to happiness as she could get.” I love it and hate it for so many reasons. I applaud Bella for getting her mind right, for finally getting back to the survivor we know she is, but calling Jacob leftover scraps makes me want to slap her. She is finally understanding that leaving Jacob in the lurch is cruel and I sort of did the happy dance when she did because next they almost kiss. I wanted that kiss so bad… I’m Team Jacob. Even when I have read the series 30+ times, even when I know the ending by heart, even when I know that Jacob finally gets his girl in the end. I root for Jacob even when I know it’s hopeless. I’m such a masochist.
• I hate it when she notices the car (and love it because it’s Alice) but the look of hurt and betrayal on Jake’s face kills me. Him shaking in the car, how much older he looks after the mask comes back. She just broke his heart and can’t really care because there is a Cullen in her house. Again, makes me want to slap her… Poor boy. The way he leaves… And he has to leave her because she made her choice right there.
• I love how when she is in the dark, with Victoria on the loose, she just walks in her house like it’s nothing, but then realizes that it was Victoria on the water. Trying to turn on the light… No survival instincts what so ever!
• And ALICE IS BACK!!!! Yay!! About freaking time!!

I suppose you could take it that way. It just rubbed my wrong because of how she treats him. I know it may not be on purpose, but it still bugs me.

There are several moments of self realization with Bella where she does recognize that she is indeed using Jacob, not to fill a void but rather to distract her from it. I feel sympathy for Jake but he admits that he knows his feelings for her are not reciprocated. He has observed her for months, so for it to come as a surprise that she would run to the house thinking it was a Cullen, any Cullen ... it was very blind of him not to expect that reaction. This relationship got so out of hand. His adoration of a broken Bella, her need to lessen the pain of her loss of E - letting the lines blur between friendship and something more. Everyone is to blame for this mess - Bella, Jake and Edward.

they should have used that some.. the lines begin to blur by nine inch nails.. lol..

Yay! Another smart post! There were many times I wanted to slap Bella in this chapter. I don't understand how she couldn't figure out that her spirt and overall well being had changed for the better over the course of her and Jacob's relationship in the book. Did she think she was tapped out? Hit the ceiling...no more room for improvement? She already proved herself wrong in that department. It was like Bella thinking "this is my option and it isn't going to get any better" wtf? What an immature assumption on life. There's a slap right there.

And you're right. Bella made her choice right there and Jake wasn't going to control her, he won't mince his words either. No games, he wears his heart on his sleeve and I admire that. She's a big girl, it's time she actually began making her own choices. But as we know Edward comes back and he puts a damper on that....or Bella gladly gives up her control.

I know! And what about in Eclipse he's like, "I forbid you..." I threw my book right at that moment and had a few epletives to say...

Popper impregnated me with her cyber mutant spawn twins about a week ago.

oh and I got caught up in a supermassive black hole with Marie this morning when we tried cliff diving off of what we thought was LaPush beach cliff to kill ourselves so we can go to heaven full of Rob angels. Can you say Epic fail? We were in the said supermassive black hole for quite a while until we found the secret to getting out was to sing Muse's "supermassive black hole".

Which brings us to the present. Now Marie and I agreed no dying allowed until after the whole saga is completed on film and we are terrified of the days arrival.
