I think that red_sea is taking this a bit too seriously considering that Bella and Edward and the rest are just fictional characters. Here some of my take on this subject. In real life Bella’s and Edward’s relationship would not be very healthy. They’re obviously obsessed with each other. BUT – that’s what first love is all about – in real life most of just can’t be that obsessed, because school, family, friends, hobbies etc. come in the way.
When it comes to Bella not caring if Edward is a murderer or not – well, that’s what TRUE LOVE is supposed to be like. When we truly love someone, aren’t we supposed to love them no matter what? In real life, how many of us could do that, or would get married with a murderer (well, there are quite a few of those out there).
Yes, Bella wants to be beautiful and admires vampires because of their looks. Who can really blame her? Besides, the wolves are beautiful/sexy as well. People just like to read about beautiful people. But I don’t think Bella wants to be a vampire just to look beautiful. There are in fact numerous reasons for the transformation, the biggest probably being that she wants to be with Edward forever.
As for Bella being selfish, she’s looked after her mom for her whole life, and takes care of Charlie as well. I think it’s high time that she does something purely for her self as well. (Sorry for the long post)

I could hardly avoid the series. I tried for a couple of years. Then I couldn't open a magazine, turn on the radio or tv or check out Fandago without seeing Edward and Bella.

I went to go get my tickets for new moon today and the sales lady said that she has never seen so many tickets go down so fast in all her life and she said she had been working their for more then 10 years. So i was like, "i think you might need a new job" 10 years working at a cinema? I could never do that. LOL.

Guess she likes her job...it's the people you work with day-in & day-out that make the job, you know!

Plus, as a great bonus, working at a cinema, she gets to see all the movies free, when they first come out--cool! Maybe she just really loves movies!

Free movies was the bonus for working in the theater. :) I used to sit in on movies on my lunch break with a cup of popcorn and a cup of sprite and coke slushy mixed together. hehe.

And of course when I just wanted to come in to see a movie on a non-work night, me and whoever came with me got to go in for free. Fun times!

This might be a stretch of my imagination but I noticed that the corresponding chapter in Twilight is Mind Over Matter where Edward is finally candidly (apart from the venom issue) answering all of Bella's questions. There's a strange parallel between these parts in the books. The secrets are all out and the pace is about to pick up.

I wondered that for ages and I think it would never occur to her to put them in danger. She hates anyone getting hurt because of her so she would rather they weren't there, even if the danger was minimal for them all. At the end of Twilight she's terrified at the thought of Victoria hurting any of the Cullens so she would probably be grateful they weren't there.

I"ve read the series over a dozen times. I didnt' begin reading until 2 weeks before Twilight was released in theaters. So, I knew, by then, there were 4 books so had an idea Edward would come back.
Sadly, I don't remember if I figured out what was going on with the wolf pack and what was causing the disappearances in the forests. I hate that! I wish I could clean that part of my brain like you can a hard drive on a comp. and start over again.

one of my favorite parts in this chapter is how quickly Emily goes from not liking Bella and then immediately warming to her after 1 little sentence :) And seriously Paul's anger issues...well they're beyond words haha i really think he could benefit from acupuncture haha (tho not sure how that would work with the whole fast healing bit; but my intentions are good haha). I also feel that sam and emily's relationship kinda gives bella more insight so to speak (ok yes, it does cause her great pain to see it), but i dont know just something about them together, I feel sort of helps Bella in a way (tho she doesn't know it). and like most of you i too am so excited for the Muffin scene (tho i prefer choc chip ones haha)!!!!! 10 more days!!!

So true. This is my 4th time reading NM and I only caught that this time through. I was oblivious to the fact Emily didn't like Bella at first for a second. She seemed actually very irritated and almost upset that Bella knew the secret and was in her house.

In this chapter I truly see the addiction Bella has for Jacob. It is completely different from Edward in some ways. And yes, I said addiction because she freakin' has one for Jacob. (Goodness, can the girl just not be hopelessly in love with one guy she has to go for two, but I digress.)
- When Jacob "broke-up" with Bella, I understood her pain because she is loosing her best friend, loosing her sun, but when Emily and Sam are in the kitchen, Bella is aching for Jacob. My thinking is she should have known she was in love with him then. They made up, she still misses him, HELLO!?! And it isn't because she is worried. She is worried, but she misses him too when she sees the love...
- Paul. Can any other wolf pull off being such a douche? Chill with the anger there sparky. Let's not ruin this whole "protectors" moniker, shall we?
- Bella is a champ with the weird. i have to give it to her. No self-preservation instincts at all...
- Charlie. Poor Charlie is still oblivious. Poor man just got thrown for a loop. I know my dad wouldn't have gone for the "it was just a misunderstanding" line. A detailed explanation would have been necessary, whether he was relieved or not, even at my age...

This one quote should have made Bella see she was in love with Jacob. I am surprised it takes till the end of freaking Eclipse for her to figure it out. Again, this is where girlfriends come in...

Technically the egg is not a person, but the egg does carry the mother's genes. So that theory would be that he is drawn to her genetic make-up, or genes.

However I do not believe that he was drawn to her eggs or genes, because if he were drawn to the genes then he should equally be drawn to Edward... and we sure don't see THAT happening....

I do believe he was drawn to Bella in the natural human way, like Sam was to Leah.

It would take the combo of Edward & Bella to create the full imprinting but it could be a more subtle pull from the get go. It's even hinted at in BD as to why the pull is no longer there, one Nessie was born. Things clicked into place and they were finally able to be just friends.

Yes, but the sperm still carries the male's genes. He would feel something towards Edward if his love for Bella was only based on genes alone.

Jacob mentions that the pull is no longer there, and I think it has to do with the fact that Bella is no longer alive. Even as a vampire she has no beating heart.

What I'm trying to say is that Jacob isn't in love with Bella because she carries certain genes. I'll agree with you that perhaps there is a SMALL pull to at least care for Bella, but the love is real. :)

I enjoyed this chapter and Bella’s introduction to the wolf pack and of course, Emily. Though Bella knew about the pack at this point, I can’t imagine what it would be like for her the first time she sees Paul and Jacob transform. (Jared) “Hey you’re not going to faint or puke or anything?” he demanded.

This is also the first time that she sees Sam and Emily together. …so much love saturated in his voice that I felt embarrassed, intrusive… I stared at the flowers trying to ignore the utter peace of their moment, and the wretched throbbing of my wounds.

Finally at the end of the chapter when Bella is trying to “sort through the day.” As she wonders if she was a hypocrite and what she would have done if Edward had been a murderer. Would that have kept me away from him? I shook my head sadly. Love is irrational…the more you loved someone, the less sense anything made.

I love that part too at the end when she hashes out whether she'd still love Edward if he was a murderer and she concludes that she would. That quote is very nice.
I really like Bella's intro to the pack too. Can you imagine what it would be like to see that. We all know its one thing to hear about something but then its totally on another level seeing it in person!! I love the gambling going on between Jared and Embry =D

That quote proves that Bella is insanely self-centered, and her "love" for Edward has nothing to do with his personality.

I think most characters in this book have somewhat of a problem with selfishness at times. I mean Edward knows he should stay away from Bella from the beginning for her own safety but ignores that because he wants her. Same for Bella but with Jake. She knows she's leading him on most of this book but does it anyway because she needs him to help her feel better.

I actually like the mid-section of New Moon.

Bella doesn't really care about ANYONE she's not attracted to.

She doesn't consider how heartbroken her parents would be if she transformed into a vampire, and she doesn't even care about the lives of other humans.

Bella does consider how Charlie and Renee would feel about her leaving. But her choice was stay with her parents or have forever with the man she loves. Difficult choice but aren't we supposed to break away from our parents for our spouse to some extent? And I think she has so much confidence in her vampire family to keep a close eye on her that she really doesn't think she'll actually ever "eat" a human.

That's just an annoying part of disqus.. you can reply through disqus, you just can't go back and correct something by putting the mouse where you want it (you can only scroll back, deleting as you go). You just have to type it right to begin with and then post the reply. ;)

It's one thing to leave your family, it's another to fake your own death , which she would have had to do if Meyer hadn't changed the rules at the last minute to give Bella everything. She grieves at the loss of her "vampire family", who she's knwon for less than a year, but still has no empathy for the people who bore and raised her. We should have seen her agonize over that.

I doubt she'd be particularly concerned if she did murder people. She's considering covering up for Jake, she says she'd be with Edward even if he were murdering people when they met, she dismisses the tourists in Volterra as "shrill" and "vulgar", and all she can think of is how awful it is for the tears in her eyes to obscure Edward's perfect face.

I think you're grudge against Bella is keeping you from making valid points. I don't mean this as an attack I just want to bring some points directly from the book that contradict your statements.

- The idea of faking her death wasmerely mentioned. The plan that they were working towards was to move away to college so that she would have a big enough distance for the excuse not to visit for awhile.
- Bella loves and cares for her parents. She is constantly worried about them and their saftey, it's part of the reason she wants to be changed. I'm not biased enough to deny that her soul reason was to be with Edward, but she did also think it was the safest way for her parents.
-If she didn't change into a vampire, the Volturi would come for her. She would either die or have to run away with little to no notice, either way it would have killed her parents. (metaphorically speaking)
- Bella was also being tracked by Victoria as you remember,through out New Moon and Eclipse. She spent many nights waiting in fear for Charlie and herself. I remember her agonizing over the thought of Charlie having to be in this danger, and not being able to breath when she woke up until she knew he was okay.
- Bella believed the only way to protect the ones she loved from the dangers that haunted her, was to become a vampire. Honestly, at that point, I thought so too.
- In New Moon, when they are leaving the volturi Bella starts crying and having hysterics because of the tourist. She's in fear for their lives. I also remember her being VERY disgusted with the human receptionist(sorry can't think of her name) for wanting to be a part of it and not being bothered by their screams.

Oh my gosh thanks for stepping in and arguing for the books where I left off. The boy woke up and I had to turn off the computer =D. There was so much more I wanted to say and didn't have the time. I appreciate your defense of the books, SM, and the characters. Thank you.

I wish I would have had my book with me earlier. Now that I do, I already said that I didn't want to argue anymore.. but now I'm itching to point those things out! lol But I will be a big girl and just let it go.

1) The supposed reason that the Cullens keep going to high scholl is to keep their age within a certiin range. Bella would jave to fake her own death within about 5 years for the same reason.

2) She was pushing to be changed from practically the moment she met Edward, and for reason of vanity. Her parents safety had nothing to do with it.

3) She was pushing to do it long before the Volturi.

4) But she doesn't do anything useful to protect her father like run away

5) At that point Bella made it clear how incredibly obsessed she was with physical perfection, and would have demanded to be a vampire for that reason regardless.

She wasn't crying over the tourists:

"It was stupid to react like this. Who knew how much time I had to look at his face? He was saved and I was saved, and he could leave me as soon as we were free. To have my eyes so filled with tears that I could not see his features clearly was wasteful-insanity."

She's insane all right. All she cares about in that moment is the blurred vision of Edward's perfect face.

You have a right to your opinion, but I think the majority disagree with your opinions about Bella as we see the opposite. To me Bella is showing us her human qualities, and she obviously is in complete love with Edward and wants to be with him. Many compare love like a drug, of course, it makes you feel like your flying.

Of course she cares about her mom and dad, but that's a different kind of love. They moved on with their lives as adults and now she can do the same. She has a right to these choices, she just wants to be with the one she loves. She tries to protect her parents. She insisted in Twilight to not leave her father alone, she feared for his life.

She wanted to become a vamp because she didn't want to grow old physically as this would ultimately point to her ending life, to die old and gray while Edward lived on. Later in the series to help fight, to help protect the ones she loves and herself, and to be an equal. Sure it would mean she couldn't see her mom and dad for a few years, she didn't want to fake her death but instead make up stories to stay away from her family for their safety.

Authors don't have to write the main characters as stand-up people with no imperfections. It's a story and she isn't your typical hero. She has flaws, she makes mistakes, she's completely in love, she has many choices to make and she follows her heart. I cannot fault her for that.

She considers the other boys irritants because they keep asking her out or flirt with her while she completely does NOT like them in that way. Many times she says that Eric is a nice guy, but considers him annoying when he keeps pushing the topic of dating, and prying into her relationship with Edward. Let's not forget in Midnight Sun Edward reads their minds and he is "disgusted" by what he sees them thinking. Perhaps Bella just ran with her instincts.

Edward is protective of Bella, you see it as controlling, I see it as protective because you have to see it from Edward's point of view. He sees her as a frail human, danger is drawn to her, so many times now he had to save her life, I think I can understand his protectiveness of her. I don't necessarily agree with it, I think he goes over the top, but I wouldn't say he's doing it to control her, that's not his intent.

I don't think SM is glamourizing suicidal behaviour either. Bella wants danger as that is how she sees Edward, not because she WANTS to hurt herself OR die.

I like this saga because it strays from the norm. It's not about a strong independent woman who never needs a man and who is strong enough to get over any heartbreak in a blink of an eye. THAT idea has been done to death and isn't original. The thing I liked about Bella is I was able to relate to her a lot.

1) Vampire glamour isn't mere attraction it's irresitible to any woman he's alone with. There's nothing special about the way Bella feels about him, as we can see with the guidance counselor in Midnight Sum

2) She'd have to fake her death within a few years, and has no concerns for the impact of that on her parents

3) I wouldn't fault her if the author recognized wthat those faults actually were, instead of dismissing and rewarding them

4) Edward's mind was far more disgusting. He's 108 years old and obsessed with the smell of a teenage girl. He also wants to kill her.

5) The vast majority of the time she's endangered because of him. And spying on her in her sleep was in no way protective, it was the most dangerous risk he could subject her to.

She wanted to die when she was in the water. She just can't admit the faact because that would make her selfish, and she can't admit that's what she is.

She doesn't have to be invulnerable, but cuddling with her boyfrend after he sabotages her car, being flattered at a guy she barely nows stalking and peeping at her, goes beyond the Pale.

Vampire Glamour? This isn't True Blood. I know he can "dazzle" people when he's looking at them, he is breathtakingly beautiful and that's how he "dazzles" them, he doesn't do mind control like Glamouring.

She doesn't have to fake her death at all. They talked about this, saying she could be "away at college" for a few years until she developed the strength to resist human blood.

How are her faults being rewarded? She gets the man she loves? She gets what she truly wants in life? That's so terrible why? Should she be made to suffer because she has human emotions and makes mistakes sometimes?

You make it sound like Edward was some disgusting perv. He liked the way she smelled, the way she looked, the way she spoke, everything about her he loved. He only wanted to kill her in the beginning because he is a vampire, not because he enjoys murdering people, it's his nature.

He spied on her sleep not to be controlling either, he did it because he was fascinated by her and was drawn to her. She recognizes that and sees him not watching her for s** reasons, thus not creepy.

So she's selfish for being so in love that she feels she can't live without him. That's a very normal emotion to feel. She feels it in extreme.

You obviously see Edward as a peeping Tom or someone who enjoys controlling his women, but Bella sees him for who he is. He isn't "Peeping" at her to catch glances of s**ual nature to turn him on. Like I said, he admits to being fascinated with her and drawn to her, and he loves her, he's not after her for S** reasons. Just because she sees the truth doesn't make her a crappy person. And I say truth because in Midnight Sun we get Edward's point of view, and in no way is it creepy or controlling. Bella sees this too.

1) Vampire glamour is irresistible to humans in close quarters. If that weren't clear from the series. Meyer proves it in MS when Edward meets the guidance counselor. She has to repeat "He's yong enough to be my son!" Over and over so she won't jump him. Edward is fully aware and familiar with this reaction.

2) The Cullen kids supposedly have to retake high school so they can convince people of ther ages, Bella would have to do the same thing within a few years.

3) She's rewarded for her suicidal behavior because it gets Edward back to her. She doesn't face the consequences of losing her father, not having children, or losing Jacob. She's rewarded for her obsessive superficiality, instead of recognizing how shallow she is.

4) He was obsessed with the way she smelled, and that is perverted escpecially whe he's old enough to be her great-great-grandfather. Her personality had nothing to do with it. And how are the other teens thoughts more disgusting than fantasizing about murder?

5) All stalkers could make the same excuse. Bella excuses him because she doesn't care about anything but his physical perfection.

She's selfish because she doesn't care about anything else: not her parents feelings, not the lives of lowly humans

He's a peeping Tom because he breaks into her bedroom and peeps at someone he's barely spoken to. I'm sure fascination and attraction are the typical excuse for stalkers and peepers. In Midnight Sun Edward admits he's a stalker. Bella doesn't care if he murders innocent people, his personality is immaterial to her, all she can see is his perfect face and her shot at getting one for herself.

1 - He dazzles people. There is no great detail on how powerful that "dazzle" is. It does not appear that he is able to manipulate people's minds like in True Blood.

2- Yes, Bella wants to remain young, that is obvious, so she can partake in their way of life. I don't see why that is a bad thing?

3- This is where your own feelings about the character come in. You obviously feel she is shallow and therefore doesn't deserve anything good in life. While the fans of the series do not believe she is suicidal or shallow. They believe her feelings run deep and are complex. They also realize fate doesn't chose who gets the goods in life and who doesn't. Bad things happen to good people, good things happen to bad people. Mind you the fans will disagree with your opinion of Bella and believe that she is a good soul and deserves the goods.

4- He is a vampire, and their sense of smell is strong. Her SCENT was appealing to him, it is not perverted because it is not s**ual. If I comment on a friend's perfume it does not mean I'm perverse. Bella is also not some 10 year old girl, she is 17, basically an adult. In our real world if a 20 year old young man wants to be with a 45 year old woman we would let it be. So what's the difference, he's mature in mind/thought, that is all.

He DOES talk about how he thinks she is fascinating by what she says, ie her personality, as she is not like the other teenage girls, she has substance and he likes that.

We are talking about a mythical creature, a vampire, who's very nature is to kill people for food. It is not disgusting for a cheetah to attack it's prey for food. It's his nature to kill for food and the smell of her blood is strong. He does not fantasize about murdering her for pleasure, he desires to kill her for food, again mythical creature here that is what they do. If you think in a world like ours then yes in REALITY it is deplorable for anyone to consider killing anyone, but this is not reality here, and there is more going on than clear black and white.

5- Stalkers make the same excuse? Obviously you despise the books and everything about it. He's not a stalker, he loves her enough to leave her, stalkers don't. Plus stalkers will physically harm the one they stalk, he does not. Peeping Tom refers MOSTLY to people who derive s**ual pleasure out of watching people, especially disrobing. To lump Edward into that term is way off.

Bella excuses him because she loves him and she sees his true love for her, and she sees that is why he does what he does, not because he is some creep.

Again, I don't think the majority here will agree with your take on the books or on Bella only wanting to be beautiful. She is already pretty, she just doesn't see it. You must know this is a site that LOVES the saga. So I believe it is best to end the cycle here.

It's not disgusting for teenage boys to have sexual thoughts about teenage gitrls. That's their nature. So what right does Edward have to feel superior to them?

5) Breaking into her bedroom and following her makes him a stalker. He only left because Stephenie was pressured to add two more books. He had far more reason to leave in Twilight.

He sabotages her car, and holds her prisoner.

Sure. Edward gets no sexual pleasure at watching a teenage girl he's obsessed with in her bedroom. Then what's driving him blood-lust? Either reason is sick.

Bella excuses him because she's a pathetic, desperate, specied-climber. who she would allow anything in exchange for becoming one of the perfect people

She is already pretty, but she wants perfect.

YAY!!! I've been waiting on you all morning LOL.... ok so here's my take on some parts of the chapter with some of my favorite moments... enjoy

Well the wolf's out of the bag now!!! (PS I really like Embry Call). And thank goodness. All that guessing and wrong assumptions were giving me a headache. Thank goodness Jake has nothing more to hide and Bella no longer has secrets to protect (from Jake and the pack anyway). You have to think that is somewhat of a relief; it was quite a big burden for both of them to carry. Think about it, how long could you keep a secret like that from your best friend?

The never ending name-calling war sort of begins here. This is the first time we've heard anybody other than Jake use "derogatory terms" to refer to Bella's beloved vampires. (We all know Jake was somewhat justified calling Edward a bloodsucker in the last chapter). Pg. 324 just after Bella shows up to the pack meeting and right before Paul flips out... "Oh, that's likely! I'm sure the leech-lover is just dying to help us out!" Everyone is well aware of Jakes hatred for vampires, Edward in particular, but here SM shows us that hatred runs through the entire pack.

I love the exchange between Jared and Embry while they're gathering the remains of Jake and Paul's clothes.
Pg. 327 Jared stopped to pick something white up off the ground. He held it up toward Embry; it dangled in limp strips from his hand. "Totally shredded," Jared said. "Billy said this was the last pair he could afford -- guess Jacob's going barefoot now."
"This one survived," Embry said, holding u a white sneaker. "Jake can hop," he added with a laugh.
Can you just imagine Billy in the store trying to explain why he's been buying so many pairs of shoes? And as big as Jake is now, I'm sure those size 15 shoes aren't cheap. That would really suck though seriously. Shredding your entire wardrobe a piece at a time is definitely one downfall to being a "werewolf." BUT.... it should make for some very nice screen candy when we see the movie!!! ;-) *thinks about Taylor and Alex with no shirt on* Ok what was I talking about???.......

I cannot wait to see the "muffin scene" either!! I think this is my favorite part in this chapter for a couple of reasons. There's the seriousness of the conversation about Victoria, Bella's pain as she watches Sam and Emily while trying so hard not to think of Edward, and then the lightness coming in as the wolf brothers joke with each other and almost eat Emily out of her house.
"Hey, none of that," Jared complained, "I'm eating." "Then shut up and eat," Sam suggested... and who can forget Jake launching a can opener at Jared's head when he suggests using Bella as bait LOL.
I love the reaction after Jake fills everyone in on what Victoria is after. "... and she's after Bella now." This wasn't news to me, but I still shivered. Jared, Embry, and Emily stared at me with open-mouthed surprise... they continued to stare at me, mouths still haning open, for a long moment.
I'd bet money it's pretty hard to shock a wolf like that.

On an ending note, we get another thing or two in this chapter to add to the Why Bella Shouldn't Be Human Anymore list. She is seriously attracted to danger. She doesn't even have to go looking for it, it just finds her.

Things on the list up to this point in the series....
* Bella doesn't connect well to other humans
* she is oddly at ease around mythical creatures
* she can't stand up on her own two feet -- on the gracefulness scale there's only one way for her to go... up
* she's in love/infatuated/addicted to a vampire

1. It couldn't be because she's shy and finds little to relate with.

2. I would love an example for that one. Never heard it before.

3. Bella being clumsy only emphasized her awkward tendencies. I don't see where she was "making her cuter". Again, I'd like to see an example that implies it.

4. It's a love not of this world that no one has experienced before. A supernatural bond and destiny that could only exist in a mythical world. This is a book about fantasy and as you may have noticed, a lot of the things experienced while reading this book don't exist. Edward and Bella's love was never meant to be an example, just a different story. If you disagree with the story being told that's alright, but it doesn't make it wrong. That's why there a millions of books that appeal to different readers. Some want to read about everyday love, troubles and how to handle their problems appropriately.... while others simply want to read about something they know nothing of, to escape our world for a little while, and just enjoy the ride.

Riss, hon, I just wanted to let you know how much both hubby and I appreciated your well thought out points and arguments. I hadn't seen red-sea's comments until just now, and I think you should be commended at the mature way you handled the situation. You didn't stoop to name-calling or hurling generalities, but defended each point with fact from the Saga. Bravo!! ;)

You said it sister . SM wrote the book so that we can walk in Bella's shoes and get lost in her world. SM did not write it so that we can handle our problems the same way bella did. Honestly, everyone has their own opinions but why read a fantasy novel and then start bashing the characters and the author. It was not meant to be read from a realistic point of view.

thanks. it just bothers me when she is severely critized. i read one of her interviews where ahe was very hurt by some of the readers reaction to breaking dawn. they wanted to burn the book and were encouraging others who did not like the books to do so. so maybe i overreact when she is being bashed. you are right though when you say everyone is entitled to their opinion. something i have to work on :)

I completely understand. Trust me, it took a lot of effort to write back without just going off on her. We're just very passionate, but atleast we can be mature about how we handle the situations like that:)

1) No it couldn't. Eric is nice enough to escort her to class, he's dismissed as an irritant, as are all ordinary looking boys, while she considers perfect-looking Edward's stalking and peeping "flattering".

2) See example above. Plus:

She constantly uses dismissive language toward humans. She doesn't even have any compassion for the tourists in Volterra. They're dismissesd as "shrill" and "vulgar", and only cares that the tears in her eyes are obscuring Edward's perfection, and is obsessed with gaining it for herself.

3) Her clumsiness certainly isn't genuinely a hindrance, or unattractive in any way, so listing it as a reason she should become a vampire is just Bella/Meyer being a spoiled brat.

4) Bella and Edward don't seem to react particularly unusually to me. They both act like junkies, with their instant dependency and obsession. Maybe Meyer isn't aware of that as a super-sheltered Mormon, but it's obvious to others, including Kristen.

And since Edward was fully aware of the effect of vampire-glamour and chose to expose Bella to it anyway, that makes him a pusher. He deliberately addicts her not only to himself, but to a life he claims to find horrible.

Honey, this is a fan site. We are all different ages - there are teens and senior citizens on this site. Seriously. All ages. Don't go sayin most of the fans are teens, cuz i guarantee that will get us all whipped into a frenzy. But, despite our ages, we all love the books and we all love SM........... we are fans. ....... although everyone is certainly open to their own opinions, I am not sure why you would choose to air your negative views on SM and her bestselling saga here on a fan site.

Excuse me for my intrusion, however I'd like to just clear a few things up. SM did not write the books for young adults. She has said herself that she wrote them aimed at an audience such as herself - a 30-something wife and mother. It was the publishing company that decided and pushed for it to be marketed to the YA audience. I happen to be in the demographic SM was writing for, and my 11yo has not yet read the books, because I don't think she's ready for that yet.

Secondly, I don't think it's appropriate or fair to bring in one's religion as a reason not to like something. SM being Mormon does not make her super-sheltered, just as millions of Catholics would take offense to the same. There are people of every religion and culture who are super-sheltered, just as there are those who are very aware of the world around them.

I believe everyone is entitle to their own opinion on this website, however, it IS a website for Twilight Saga fans, and it seems to me that you don't particularly like the series at all. If it's just Bella and Edward you have issues with, I'd love to hear what you think of the other characters. Unfortunately, all I am seeing is negative commentary and picking at the two main characters of the book. There are lots of people here who are not fond of Edward or Bella, but still enjoy the series and find good things within it.

I'll tell you what I found from the books, and you can take from it what you will. I strengthened my love affair with my husband, and remembered why I love him so much. Is Bella perfect? No, and she repeatedly says that of herself throughout the books. Is Edward? Once again, the answer is no, and he says that of himself often. Do they love each other? Yes. Is it the healthiest relationship possible? No, it is not. If you can find a perfect, healthy loving relationship where there are no problems at all, I'd love to hear about it. Because I know darn well that I am not perfect, neither is my husband - but we work through it together, and that's what makes the journey worth it for us.

It was the consistent theme of love and caring that I saw throughout everything - the willingness to do anything to protect the ones you love, the desire to be with someone you love - that drew me to strengthen my own relationship. And as an added bonus, I let myself be drawn into a fantasy world that I happen to thoroughly love.

Am I in an abusive, controlling relationship? Hale, no. And I would refuse to allow myself to be. Did I walk away from this series thinking that controlling relationships, suicidal behaviour, obsessive superficiality and "any sort of independence is not true love?" Umm... nope. And I resent any implication that I would ever be that way.

1) Whether it was her decision or not, that's who the books are marketed to, so she should at least acknowledge what's wrong with Bella instead of excusing or denying it.

2) Mormons are particularly sheltered when it comes to drugs. They're not even supposed to drind caffeine. That's why I brought it up when discussing Bella and Edward's reaction to each other.

3) I like Jacob and Charlie before Meyer character-assassinated them

4) As you said, you're a great deal older than the tweeners who make up a huge portion of the fans. They're certainly being influenced. Though I think older readers should recognize how unhealthy all of the romances that are presented as "true love" in the series are.

Does that go for Summit as well after all they did make the books into movies. What about us. Those of us who purchased the books are we not condoning what SM is doing.

If you hate the books, characters and SM then why do you even bother coming here expending energy writing so many paragraphs. Why not write to Stephenie and let her know what you think of her as an author. While you re at it write to summit as well. But don t stop there the actors who portray the characters are also irresponsible if what you say is true. Why don't you just Boycott the movie(s) as well.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But we come here because we appreciate and enjoy the books. If you want to bash everything about twilight then maybe you should start your own blog where you can bash the author and the characters. I'm sure that there are a few others who are ignorant as you and who would not mind joining the "Lets bash twight" party.

Stephenie's brother doesn't allow any critical reviews to get through to her.

The actors at least recognize the perversity of the story. No one's said worse things abut Edward than Rob, and Kristen admits Bella is an addict.

1) He was overly pushy, self-motivated, and Bella didn't want the attention, and I think she saw through to his motives.

2) We can't help who we're attracted to. It just so happened that none of the boys in school appealed to her as attractive compared to the Cullens. We all have looks we prefer over others and I don't see what's wrong with that. She was still friends with them, but she didn't like the attention they gave her. Edward never stalked her in school when she first interested in him. He was the only guy that sincerely wanted to know about her and wasn't after bragging rights for being with the new girl. As for the Volterra comment, they are not dismissed.. refer to my other comment for further explanation.

3) Bella's clumsiness is constantly looked at as a hindrance. She also is constantly annoyed with herself and hates that she has trouble walking straight. I don't remember i EVERbeing listed as a reason for her to become a vampire. It was only looked at as a perk.

4) I agree that the bond between them is much like an addiction, an unavoilable one. Once they let their guards down to eachother, it was an inevitable fate they could not avoid. Edward loves Bella, and tried through out New Moon to stay away for her benefit. He is not a pusher. I'm more inclined to call him selfish than that. Although, I can't deny the fact that he tried not to be but it's hard when they other person wants you just as much.

SM did not write this book for YA and it was her publishers that decided where to market it. I agree that it should not be in that section, AT ALL. However, that is when parents need to take the responsibility upon themselves to make sure their child understands the difference between real and fiction. I have an idea, let's burn every single book that isn't a model example for how to live your life. It would be moronic to be exposed to books that allow you to experience a story about a world that doesn't exist for pure enjoyment. Although, I may pick the book to pieces and realize their unerlying meaning.. which then I will HAVE to think that it is completely true and live my life by it. Excuse me, I just realized I need to go jump off of a cliff to hear my lost loves voice.

While we're burning books let's get rid of these.. Californication, The Mentalist, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, True Blood, Romeo and Juliet, Harry Potter, James and the Giant Peach, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Bridge to Teribithia... you get the idea. Any form of entertainment that may teach something that one person, or group, found wrong or picked apart to find an underlying meaning wrong, should not be made available. Do this because we as individuals can't not make decisions for ourselves or check out what our own child is reading.

I like some parts of the series, but they're generally the parts most people hate.

Bella realizes her flaws to an extent. I mean none of us like to sit around and just think about what is wrong with us. We like to pretend we are perfect and its everyone else that is flawed. I like the flaws SM gave Bella because it makes her more human and a more relatable character. Although I do also have my "good grief Bella what the hale are you thinking" moments too.

The author should recognize the character's flaws even if the character doesn't.

Bella is shallow, immature, and greedy, but Meuer claims just the opposite.

Wow i really liked this chapter, now we see a diferent perspective about the wolf pack, we see them like a real family, and i just loved that, those boys are great, and how bella felt so comftable with them, i really like her dream, holding hands with Emily waiting for there werewolves.....

Yeah, I always thought after reading the books again and again that it was fated for her to meet and fall for Edward and be best friends with Jacob because of her aversion to all things "normal."

She doesn't mesh well with the humans, even her father to a certain extent. But she does have that special ability, which would one could infer that she was meant for this path all along.

I agree. Cuz you know Bella is kind of awful at being human lol. And just the way she takes to being a vampire right away tells me that she was just made to be a vampire. Remember how Carlisle talks about "how could there be no more for someone such as Edward" talking about Heaven and how he always was praying Edward would find love? Well I kind of think that Bella was born to be with Edward.

In a way I agree, but I thought of something on the way home from work today...

Bella gets a lot of these traits from her father. I mean, look at Charlie. The guy isn't sociable either.. he was pretty close to Billy and Harry, that was about it and they were both indirectly involved with the werewolves.

This part is a bit spoiler-y for MS... but in MS we find out Charlie's thoughts aren't easily read by Edward, hence Bella receiving that from her dad.

Bella is clumsy and not good at being human. It was hinted that Charlie isn't that coordinated at times, though we didn't see it, and he wasn't good at being human (ie: connecting to many people).

Charlie showed sympathy and a like for the Cullens' (at least in Twilight until Edward started dating his daughter).

And lastly, Charlie takes the opposite path and ends up mixed in with the wolves (ie: Sue).

That leads me to believe that Bella really could have gone either way. Like I said, I do tend to agree she was more inclined to be a vampire but only because of her choosing it (not necessarily born to be one), but with these traits that mirror her father's, she could have easily ended up with Jacob. Just a theory on my part.. :) That's the end of me being all deep and stuff. hehe.

LOL - You covered a lot of the stuff I was going to, great minds think alike. I really like how Bella thinks of the wolves as quadruplets, and we get the vivid image of them being synchronous in their movements – very in tune with one another, another effect of their "wolfishness".

Paul’s immediate anger explosion is almost humorous, and it appears the wolves feel that way as well, as exhibited by Jared’s muttering which seems to just goad Paul on further. I think it’s interesting that Jacob’s attempt to protect Bella is what finally sets Paul off.

The description of the fursplosion is one that I find detailed and easy to imagine. But I much prefer Jacob’s mid-stride fursplosion, myself. I like how Jacob immediately begins ramming his shoulder against Paul to remove him from the situation. Bella’s safety is his paramount priority.

Sam’s natural leadership is evident throughout this confrontation. His immediate questioning of Jacob, and his attempts to relax everyone before Paul’s fursplosion (I just love saying that word, don’t you? LOL) are just the beginning. Seeing that he instructs the remaining wolves regarding Bella before going after Paul and Jacob, not even waiting to see if his orders are carried out, shows his confidence in his pack.

The wolf pack – love ‘em! How can you not? The camaraderie is obvious, shown by the joking and betting and tendency to speak bluntly towards one another. It’s nice to see some lightheartedness; we’re in sore need for that after all the angst and drama we’ve been facing.

Enter Emily. “So, you’re the vampire girl.” “Yes. Are you the wolf girl?” Love it. Bella’s description of Emily is detailed, and leaves no doubt as to how she obtained her injuries, or of her beauty. She is the den mother in all aspects, and I adore her interactions with the pack: ‘“Save some for your brothers,” Emily chastised him, hitting him on the head with a wooden spoon.’ Bella’s description of them bantering like a family is nice, yet, sad for her – because she can see the Cullens within the wolf pack.

Such as Sam and Emily. “So much love saturated his voice that I felt embarrassed, intrusive, as I watched him cross the room in one stride and take her face in his wide hands. He leaned down and kissed the dark scars on her right cheek before he kissed her lips … This was worse than any romantic movie; this was so real that it sang out loud with joy and life and true love.” I can only imagine how it felt for Bella to see two people share the love she once had with Edward.

Bella’s fear for Jake and the pack, and Jake’s confidence are beautifully shown here:
“Don’t be afraid tonight. We’ll be out there, watching”
“I won’t worry about myself.”
“You’re silly. Hunting vampires is fun. It’s the best part of this whole mess.”
“If I’m silly, then you’re dangerously unbalanced.”
Bella’s thoughts about Edward and hypocrisy are interesting:

“I thought about what Jacob had said earlier this morning, about hypocrisy. I thought about that for a long time. I didn’t like to think that I was a hypocrite, only what was the point of lying to myself?

I curled into a tight ball. No, Edward wasn’t a killer. Even in his darker past, he’d never been a murder of innocents, at least. But what if he had been? What if, during the time that I’d known him, he’d been just like any other vampire? What if people had been disappearing from the woods, just like now? Would that have kept me away from him?

I shook my head sadly. Love is irrational, I reminded myself. The more you loved someone, the less sense anything made.”

And, lastly, we have another dream. I like that in this one, she and Emily are holding hands waiting anxiously for “our werewolves to come home.”

THank you for mentioning the fursplosion. When I read, "the boy exploded" for the first time, I literally could not stop laughing. I will never forget my reaction to that description. And.......... I love SM's word choices for Bella's conclusion about Jacob and love being irrational. She really captures the true meaning of love - perfectly describes how love is unconditional - it doesn't change because the person you love left or because the friend you love is possibly a murderer.....

I love reading you and Veggie's posts!! I've been reading the book along with everybody else, but I work full-time and go to school full-time so I never have enough time to write my own. I just appreciate the time that you guys take out of your day to go back and think about the chapter.This is my 4th time reading NM and you guys' posts me think about the things that I missed reading it the first 2 or 3 times i've read NM.

I save time by listening to the audio books on youtube while I am doing dishes and laundry and stuff!
