Pg. 467 Everyone enters the room where The entire Volturi, and the rest of their guards are(minus Marcus & Caius). Aro’s behavior right from the start, is super bizarre, and why in the world is Aro kissing Jane on the lips? Did I miss something?

I'm really looking forward to how this chapter will look in the movie... ive skipped that sneak peak that was shown on Ellen with Dakota Fanning so I have really only seen what has been showes in the trailers and TV spots. so veryyy excited for this chapter in the movie.

OMG! I LOVE this chapter I swear it's my fav of the whole book!!!
1) (enter Alec) *faint* I'm team Alec and I don't know how many times I have to say this but he's my Eddie/Jake!!! Okay! Deal with it!
2) Alec and Jaen are holding hands becasue they are twins (some bonding maybe) you got to think about how they were almost burned at the stake and all, if I had a twin, I wouldn't don anything without him/her.
3) Jane amazes in so many ways! she is all one of my fav Volturi's because she's so bad
4) I love it when Aro and Jane kiss, makes me wonder (because in Breaking Dawn there were some lines) but I ship it, Team Jaro!
5)Aro amazes me just as much as Jane... I love Sheen's acting in the sneak peeks, it's like they pulled book-aro right from my brian and put it on the big scren.
6) Heidi creeps me out... enough said, but I love the little calm talk between Demetri and Heidi while stupid humans walk by going "Oh pretty picture! Oh pretty room! Oh SEXY men! OH.... crap...." but that's only me...
7) one last thing- ALEC IS AMAZINGLY HOT!!!!!

I absolutely ADORE the Volturi. They're my favorite characters in the entire saga. Just so fascinating, creepy, and wonderful in their own right.

Aro must realise how subjective Alice's visions are because he can see every thought you have ever had - especially the most recent 'Bella is dead vision' that was the catalyst for this whole situation - so why is he so convinced by what alice shows him? - all roads lead to vampirism? no matter what choices Bella and Edward make she will always end up as a vampire?

I think Aro knows that Alice's visions are subjective, but he wants them to leave so that he can acquire them all in the future, as he attempts to do in Breaking Dawn, and is hinted at in Eclipse. Obviously he would have been planning that whole thing from the beginning, as it wasn't his first time using the Volturi's role as enforcers to gain useful talents.

O.K. I just couldn't stand it anymore. reading the book one chapter a day was killing me, especially the last 5 or so. So I just broke down and finished it yesterday, and man was it wonderful AGAIN!
Now I'm not sure what the heck I'm going to do for the next couple of days! maybe I'll start Eclipse or better yet, maybe I'll sit down and read New Moon again. I have enough time.

I finished the whole book back when everyone was back at chapter 12, and now I'm rereading the end, my fav part, again one day at a time this week.

I love all of his scenes but when he's sitting on the Cullen's couch eating the breakfast Edward made, my heart melted into a puddle. It's weird enough that Bella's so comfortable around vampires but for a werewolf to like them...it's adorable. And he loved Edward so that's another huge thing in Seth's favour.

I agree completely...seth is the best...i forgot about that part... he was so calm in a hostile situation...and seriously... everyone loves him.

OMG yes they seemed to have changed Aro’s character in the movie. I am not sure I will like that. In the book he is so eccentric and bizarre. He seems much scarier in the movie previews. Also he is supposed to save them because he wants and admires their extra talents. I am wondering how that will play out in the movie. That mouth kissing and holding had stuff is rather weird.

The relationship between Edward and Alice is very special. That is one of the reasons I enjoyed reading the partial draft of Midnight Sun. http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/pdf/midnightsun_p... You see a lot of their relationship in that book.

First off, Volturi.. LOVE EM. Love the idea that there are a group that can scare even vampires. I think without them the vamps would be too free to go around on killing sprees and such.
Anyway, I feel that Alec and Jane, being twins, are the closest to each other than anyone else, and sort of have that bond. Therefore the handholding for me is not really that strange. They're old, they've been around for a while.. perhaps they are just that comfortable with each other.
As for Jane kissing Aro, I feel that this was Stephenie's way of showing how devoted and in awe the guard are of the three leaders, Aro in particular. And again, they're around 3,000 years old. I'm sure it was normal back in the day. LOL.
I actually disagree with you with the way Edward is annoyed with Alice. I don't think the annoyance is really an angered annoyance. I think it's all in good fun. They're pretty close when you read all the books and Alice does act bratty with Edward liked the fight practices during Eclipse when she sticks her tongue out at Edward and he laughs. I just think that that's their relationship but I also think they're very close and with their abilities they kind of stick together most of the time with having to see the future and hear thoughts. I love their relationship.
I think my favorite concept of this chapter is that even after all that time apart, Edward and Bella can so selflessly give themselves up to save the other. Very brave on both their parts. And Alice as well, being brave enough to even go to Volterra knowing that there is a good chance she won't survive. Although it could have just been her desperate attempt to keep Jasper from going there and getting killed himself. Either way, Alice is a saint and one of my favorite characters in the entire series [besides Seth! i just love him! :)]
All in all, I like the Volturi. I think the series wouldn't be what it is without them. And I cannot WAIT for Friday! :D

Ok, big chapter. It's just going to blow is away when we see it on screen. I think it might be the best part of the movie. Kristen, Rob and Chris said that it was one of their favourite parts to shoot.

I love how in the book and what i have also seen so far in the movie. How Edward is still very protective with Bella in Italy. He shows everyone else he means buisness. He isn't here to play games. But yet, he manages to caress and hsow Bella the love and comfort from Edward she has been dying to recieve for so long.

Aro's voice in the movie sounds completely different how i imagined it. I imagined it dark, yes, but dripping with sarcasm. I don't know why but everytime he talks i feel like he might over use words. But i love how Michael Sheen did it in New Moon it totally surprised me and i love it. It's fluffy and yet fierce.

"Alice's expression was frustrated. Edward turned to her and explained again in a swift, love voice. "Marcus sees relationships. He's surprised by the intensity of ours." Aro smiled. "so convenient," he repeated to himself. Then he spoke to us "It takes quite a bit to surprise Marcus, I can assure you." I looked at Marcus's dead face, and i believed that. "It's just so different to understand, even now," Aro mused, staring at Edward's arm wrapped around me. It was hard for me to follow Aro's chaotic train of thought. I struggled to keep up. "How can you stand so close to her like that?" "It's not without effort" Edward answered calmly. "But still - la tua cantante! What a waste!" Edward chuckled one without humor. "I look at it more as a prize." Aro was skeptical "A very high price" Edward replied "Opportunity cost."

I would have made love to Edward right their and right then. Easily. It's such a curiosity how Edward manages to do it, how he manages to stop himself. It must hurt him so much. Hurt him to be with her, hurt him to be without her. Bella has the easy ride, she's horny. Jacob too, he thinks he has a broken heart. Edward though, it's really hard for him. For leaving me, for being a right pussy, for everything that had happened bewteen hima dn Bella, if i was Bella, i'd have easily forgiven him. Even though she did when she first saw him again.

"Don't!" Alice cried as Edward launched himself at that little girl. Before i could react, before anyone could jump between them, before Aro's body guards could tense, Edward was on the ground. No one had touched him, but he was on the stone ground withering in agony, while i stared in horror.

That must hurt like hell. I love hoe bella tried to protect him. I read a New Moon card, and this is a spoiler so you might not want to read it. Bella say soemthing among the lines of "Kill me, have me, i'll sacrifice myself for Edward, just please don't hurt him." Oh everything is just so loverly jubbly and romantic. They'd both sacrifice themselves for each other.

Finally Alice shows us that Bella, will and soon become a Vampire. I for one nearly broke my bed. I was jumping on it so much. I was so happy. Yippe-de-do-da. LOL. I hope they show the image of Bella as a vampire with Edward.

If the book didn't have the Volturi in it, i don't think New Moon or the Twilight saga would be as successful as it is today. They make another dark plot in the book. You always need a little bit of anger and suspence in a good book.

WOW, I LOVED your review and completely agree with most of your reasonings and opinions, but once again I have to jump at the chance to defend Jacob because I believe they both share the same pain. Yes it must hurt like hale to be with or without Bella, but all of Edward's pain is self-inflicted in my opinion.

I mean Edward doesn't trust himself to be with Bella so he hurts his desire and NEED to be with her. Through his worry he doesn't seem to understand that his thirst for her goes beyond his physical lust for her blood, but rather the intense LOVE he feels and can't be without. Thus he can't comprehend the trust Bella (and others like Carlisle) has in him to not hurt her - otherwise she would be afraid of him.

That's the thing about humans and animals in general, when something dangerous is evident it is instinctual to fear and run away. Bella does not do this, from the beginning she KNEW UNDOUBTEDLY that he wouldn't hurt her. Edward believes that just because he is capable of killing Bella that he will do so, Alice doesn't help either by showing him the two possible outcomes of the predicament he's in: the one where Bella is dead in his arms, and the one with her as an immortal next to Alice. In my opinion this is a simple misunderstanding and a real reliance on Alice's visions, whose are subjective as it is based on the CHOICES people make. At the time Edward's instinctual/"monster" side was contemplating her death in order to relieve the situation, while his other somewhat immortal side was desiring his need and love for her - a desire that would eventually end in her becoming one of them in order for him to have her forever. This is what Alice saw, and this is why Edward is constantly conflicted and hurt, he feels that it's wrong either way so he prevents it by any means necessary even it is to cause him pain..

This is why -- and despite the fact I know I'll get a whole lot of bashings for it, but I'm going to say it anyway -- I think Edwards somewhat selfish *Ducks head and runs away*....Everything he does and the choices he makes is what he thinks and feels is best. He leaves Bella knowing how much pain and suffering it will cause him but doesn't give a thought to what Bella might feel, He then goes to try to kill himself because he knows he was the cause for her "death" disregarding the consequences it has on others (namely Alice)... Therefore he causes himself pain by not being able to let go and give in to the Love and adoration he bears for Bella.

Similar in situation to Jacob whose pain is caused by his unwilling desire to let go of Hope - however different in the way he has his pain inflicted by others: Bella's somewhat toying with his heart, Edward for being the prefect man and choice for Bellas Love and the constant reminder from his other Wolfies that Bella doesn't love him like Edward....

So again I say they share the same pain and hurt in some respects however, recieve and portray it in different ways....

Yes but what he does he does for bella the choices he makes are what he thinks is what's best for her.

doesn't this show that he's not selfish but selfless. he leaves bella even though he knows it's going to hurt him, because he wants her to have a normal life and he feels that by staying with her he is being selfish. he is taking things away from her and endangering her life.

Edward underestimates bella's love for him to edward, bella will suffer for a while but like all humans time "heals all wounds" isn't that what he said to her when he said goodbye. Edward does not realize the intensity of bella's feelings for him so as far as he is concerned she will get over him in time. Had Edward known that his leaving would cause Bella so much pain and suffering he would not have left. all he wanted was for her to get on with her life a normal life. So the choices he made were for her not for him. what did edward get out of leaving bella nothing he was probably more miserable than she was.

Hahaha...LOL thanks for not bashing, so I won't either...I do understand your reasoning, and I suppose I should have added his selflessness in there too, because he has no doubt put Bella's needs before his own, but I should also elaborate on the "selfishness" opinion:

I understand Edward left for her benefit, disregarding his own feelings and opinions, and I understand how he could think Bella would get over him as he has witnessed it throughout the years. However, what I don't understand is how easily he could think that Bella was like any "normal" human. Hasn't Twilight proven that Bella wasn't like any other he's met throughout the years? Isn't this why he was attracted to her in the first place? If she wasn't different, how come he feels so intensely (more than bloodlust) for her?

Ultimately if he had just pondered over it a BIT more he would have realized the idiocy of his decision. As it highlighted in Midnight Sun Alice confirms that he wouldn't be enable to stay away from her, because of his attraction. For him to underestimate Bella's reciprocating feelings towards him is naive and what I find selfish. He thinks his feelings is the only one that will suffer immensely, and the thing he's prepared to live with, believing Bella will just get over it and thus taking extreme measures...As Laurent says in the film "how much could she mean to him if he was prepared to leave her, unprotected" especially since she has already been exposed to his world.

I think that even though it was meant to be a selfless decision, it turned out to be selfish because he didn't regard anyone else's feelings towards the decision, especially Bella's....A mistake he often makes throughout the series. So again, it is what HE THINKS is best, and what HE BELIEVES is helping Bella, somewhat putting himself in higher regard as a vampire whose seen and understood humanity more so than that of Bella's human state...

I do understand his dilemma, and I do agree with the fact he wouldn't have left had he known the consequences. Yes, he didn't get anything out of it, and that's what I have said before, but again I reiterate that his selfishness came out of his bad judgements and inability to consider or even ask Bella's feelings. He acts selflessly as he puts Bella's needs before his own, but also selfishly as his own decisions are brought about by his preference for his own thoughts as he believes that's what is best (regarding his thoughts above hers or anyone elses), thus causing bad judgments on his part. I should have made this clear before.

Not all selfish decisions make people feel good, and Edward's undoubtedly make him feel guilty. I'm not saying he's the most selfish guy in the world, far from it, but he is somewhat selfish in his own decisions. Just like Jacob, Bella and other characters in their own way...

Again I apologise, and I know it's difficult to see my pov, and I guess it's simply due to how we look at the situation, but in no way did I mean to offend you. I guess I shouldn't have brought it up in the first place, but I do take my hat off to you for sharing your thoughts with me =)

You have to try to understand Edward’s dilemma. Edward was in a catch 22 situation dammed if you do dammed if you don’t.
By staying with Bella he would be taking things away from her and because of this he feels that Bella will come to resent him over time. He does not want that to happen. He does not want Bella to go ahead with something (Becoming a vampire) that she cannot turn back from and then have to regret her decision when it is too late. Even if she did not want to become a vampire he would still be taking things away from her.
If he stayed with her it would cause the both of them suffering and pain. But to him eventually she will go on without him while he continues to suffer.
What if Bella could go on without him eventually?. How would Edward have known the outcome unless he tried. Edward would have been plagued with doubts.

Do you honestly think that if Edward had known the outcome that he would have left her. If he understood the intensity and depth of Bella’s feelings for him and that nothing good would have come out of him leaving her would he have taken the same action.

That is using bad/poor judgment. You yourself are saying that what he did was a selfless decision. Remember he did not know the outcome. Because it did more harm than good it was a bad call on his part not selfish. As far as not regarding her feelings he knew that she would suffer but only for a while or so he thought. Again that is not being selfish.

exclusive regard to one's own interest or happiness; that supreme self-love or self-preference which leads a person to direct his purposes to the advancement of his own interest, power, or happiness, without regarding those of others.

When Edward left Bella what did he get out of it. Did he get happiness. No. He was in agony and probably more than she was. So how was he being selfish:

Oh, I'm so glad that finally someone mention this chapter on the big screen. There is so much to see! I was so anxious reading this chapter like everyone else, that I rushed through it only to go back and re-read it over and over. I get more each time. It's such a visual chap. I think it will be great to see, I have my own images in my head but they are blurry b/c all I wanted to do was get it over with and then read about them getting back together.

The creepy way The Volturi relate to each other is because Chelsea bonds them together and that is icky. If she wasn't forcing them to worship Aro, The Volturi and their guard would totally tear each other to shreds. At least the Cullens love each other and act like family. I'm a cow to my brother too and I find Edward and Alice's relationship realistic, especially after reading MS.

OMG I so love this chapter. I was so worried about what was going to happen.
Here are a few of my opions / concerns:

- Why is Caius apart of the Volturi? He doesn't have a special gift.

- Jane gets on my nerves, when she caused Edward all that pain. I was so upset, it was
very uncalled for.

- So love that no one can get to Bella. They were so shocked. Especially jane, I know she was quite upset.

- I was actually nerves myself waiting on the decison. Aro took forever to let them go.

- I feel bad for Marcus, he's so bored with life, but can't get away from the Volturi because he's bound to them by Chelsea? (I think that's her name)

- So love that they were caught off guard by the special and ver strong bond Edward and Bella have ! (jacob who???? Yeah th eyare so meant to be ! ! ! ! )

In all it was a great chapter it had me so anxious and worried for them all, I read through this non stop to see the out come

In regards to your concerns about Caius, I think originally he Aro and Marcus were the few Vamps that new each other as such, and I think they all shared the concern to keep their existence as much of a mystery from the humans as possible. Aro obviously co-founded and led the group to become the forces that would prevent other Vampires from exposing their secret.

Also, like SM said, Aro has always desired power, Caius obviously shares the same capacity. Aro also is very deceptive and cunning in his means to gain power so maybe his inclusion of Marcus and Caius as the so called 'other leaders' is just a front (my opinion). If it was just him as all powerful leader then his intentions and true nature would be undoubtedly obvious and easily overthrown, thus he maintains a "shared" (and I say shared because the Volturi guard follow his commands above the others anyway) ruling...But I dunno what do you think? Possible?

marcus is there because it was the three of them in the begining however he fell in love with aros sister and aro had her killed which is why he doesnt get involved and is so board with being there he has lost his love but he doesnt know it is aro that did it or so it says on s.m website anyways lol x

Yea, and because He desires power, but has no distinctive ability of his own, being part of the Volturi keeps his needs satisfied. This is probably why he's so 'destroy-everyone-who-we-believe-is-guilty-no-matter-what-their-reason-is". Yea I agree. I think SM said they are twins, and because they're so alike they have a really close bond to each other (both looks and uniqueness ability wise). The whole holding hands isn't meant to be intimate as such but rather an "i-got-your-back-whatever-happens" kinda thing. I also suppose that since they're so young they'll never find another like them to fall in love with (since its forbidden to turn one so young) so they make up for that by displacing they're love and loyalty to each other and the volturi.

Think of them as weird "The Shining" twins...or I think of them as Villainous WonderTwins... yep...lol

There are so many parts to this movie that I am looking forward to seeing translate on film.

Second, the break up. I know that I will be a basket case, but I cannot wait to see how this ended up, and Kristen's and Rob's performances.

And Third, the Italy reunion and the Volturi showdown that follows.

I want to see Edward's big entrance at the start and the showdown between Edward and Jacob at the end.

I want to see Bella's depression and how she copes.

I want to see Charlie dealing with his daughter.

And I love here how we can almost see through Aro's "kindness" to his real intentions with the Cullen family. He even mentions how great the three of them would be as additions to the Volturi.

And all through this chapter Bella is still in denial about Edward's love for her. She still believes whole heartedly that Edward does not want her and that he will leave again as soon as the Volturi release them. And because of this she clings so hard to every moment with him. awww..

I also think Aro realizes that the Cullen clan will be growing, not just in numbers but with 3 special talents. I'm sure Aro senses the danger of allowing such a large and powerful coven to exist.

Oh yes definitely. The Volturi are so power hungry that they feel threatened by the Cullens, especially with Bella being a soon-to-be new addition....

*Aro continued to drift wnh a thoughtful expression. He was quiet for a moment, his eyes

"No!" Edward snarled the word. Alice grabbed his arm with a restraining hand. He shook her

Edward was truly snarling now, the sound ripping and tearing from him, glaring at Aro with
baleful eyes. The room had gone still, everyone watching him with amazed disbelief, as if he
were committing some embarrassing social faux pas. I saw Felix grin hopefully and move a
step forward. Aro glanced at him once, and he froze in place, his grin turning to a sulky
expression.
Then he spoke to Jane. "I was wondering, my dear one, if Bella is immune to you."
I could barely hear Aro over Edward's furious growls. He let go of me, moving to hide me
from their view. Caius ghosted in our direction, with his entourage, to watch.
Jane turned toward us with a beatific smile.
"Don't!" Alice cried as Edward launched himself at the little girl.
Before I could react, before anyone could jump between them, before Aro's bodyguards
could tense, Edward was on the ground.
No one had touched him, but he was on the stone floor writhing in obvious agony, while I
stared in horror.
Jane was smiling only at him now, and it all clicked together. What Alice had said about
formidable gifts, why everyone treated Jane with such deference, and why Edward had
thrown himself in her path before she could do that to me.
"Stop!" I shrieked, my voice echoing in the silence, jumping forward to put myself between
them. But Alice threw her arms around me in an unbreakable grasp and ignored my struggles.
No sound escaped Edward's lips as he cringed against the stones. It felt like my head would
explode from the pain of watching this.
"Jane," Aro recalled her in a tranquil voice. She looked up quickly, still smiling with pleasure,
her eyes questioning. As soon as Jane looked away, Edward was still.
Aro inclined his head toward me.
Jane turned her smile in my direction.
I didn't even meet her gaze. I watched Edward from the prison of Alice's arms, still
struggling pointlessly.
"He's fine," Alice whispered in a tight voice. As she spoke, he sat up, and then sprang lightly
to his feet. His eyes met mine, and they were horror-struck. At first I thought the horror was
for what he had just suffered. But then he looked quickly at Jane, and back to me–and his
face relaxed into relief.
I looked at Jane, too, and she no longer smiled. She glared at me, her jaw clenched with the
intensity of her focus. I shrank back, waiting for the pain.
Nothing happened.
Edward was by my side again. He touched Alice's arm, and she surrendered me to him.
Aro started to laugh. "Ha, ha. ha," he chuckled. "This is wonderful!"*



I like this chapter because there is a proof for Bella that Edward still loves her so much when he averts Jane's 'curse' from Bella.and I don't like it because the book's ending is so close.Just 3 and a half chapter remains and I adore this chapter because there is 3 and a half days remains until the MOVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

OK, I've gotten it done. Sorry, it's not the best I've done - I'm feeling rather like a little kid sneaking their comic book their text book at school, let me tell you! First, here's the note I had ready to go in the OTHER review... *shakes head in shame*

Alright, first, MY APOLOGIES! As most of you know, the one and only Punchy and I were able to go see Kellan, Chaske and Christian at WEM on Saturday. This was not intended to be an overnight event, but due to stoopid planning on WEMs side, we decided to camp out, so were at the mall for almost a full 24 hours. We had an awesome time, but I only got like 2 hours of sleep. And that was not expected, or I would NOT have been reading way into the wee hours of the night throughout the week.

As a result, I have had the biggest forking migraine EVER… I compounded the stupidity by heading to a NM party immediately after leaving WEM… and not getting to bed until 1am. Up at 11, since I’m a choir director and had rehearsal. Did rehearsal, skipped church and came home and went to sleep again. Woke up, spent some time with the kids since they were looking particularly neglected and lonesome, and saw just how many people missed me online. Wow. You guys seriously have me concerned for my safety if I don’t get caught up!

So, here’s how it’s going to go. I’m reviewing this now, will get up my other reviews for the “missing chapters” over the next couple of days. Sorry, that’s just the way it’s gonna have to be… please forgive me? OK, here’s Chapter 21… (like I really NEEDED to add more length to my posts with that long explanation, right? LOL)

OK, first, Bashy, I love your comments, nicely put. Let me see if I can answer your questions in my review. This one is easy to me - Jane & Alec holding hands… they are older children, are they not? It’s not that uncommon to see siblings holding hands, really.

First thing about this chapter, is how the Volturi treat Bella. She is a non-entity in their eyes, really. Their biggest concern is that she knows too much. Felix calls dibs on her, Aro doesn’t speak directly to her until Edward flat out tells him to, and they continually discuss her as if she isn’t even there… To me, this shows just how much different and more wonderful the Cullen family is in the world of vampires.

One thing that you didn’t mention that I noticed… The floor is sloped to the centre with a drain in the middle… that’s a very good indication for what the room is used for… Not to be too crass, but a lot easier for cleanups after dinner, yes?

Bella’s description of Aro’s physical differences from other vampires is intriguing, I wonder if we will see that in the movie. I agree with you about Aro. I do think that he is slightly unhinged, no doubt about it. He is very much a ceremonial person – all about appearances and protocol, if you will. His need to show people how wonderfully kind and charming he is, yet that sinister layer beneath… just makes me shudder! Jane & Aro… I think that this “light kiss on the lips” is just more of Aro’s pomp and chivalry, myself.

No, the Cullens have never met the Volturi – Carlisle lived with them for a few decades, but Aro has not seen him since. Anything they knew about the Volturi, they knew from Carlisle.

Aro covets Edward’s ability. He is most definitely a power-hungry man who wants what he cannot have. Edward’s cautiousness around him is very necessary, I think.

When we are introduced to Marcus & Caius, we see their unique relationship. And Marcus shows Aro how strong the bond is between Edward & Alice and Edward & Bella… love it. They DO have an amazing bond, even surprising sad, grief-stricken Marcus. How could Jacob fight against that?

We are introduced to la tua cantante. And Aro, who is 3,000 some-odd years old, is astounded by Edward’s ability to even stand close to Bella. SM uses this opportunity to show us just how potent Bella’s blood is to him, how much of a real struggle he must constantly be in. It makes their relationship that much stronger to me, that he continues in the struggle.

Aro’s test of Bella’s ability is scary. I can’t imagine her fear and trepidation at being asked to do such a thing – and it is only Edward’s encouragement that gives her enough strength to go ahead and do it. When he asks Jane to test her as well, we once again see the love that Edward has for Bella.

He KNOWS what Jane can do. And he throws himself in front of her regardless. The description of how he bears it, and how he reacts as he watches Jane attempt to hurt Bella, just speaks volumes. I love that Edward bore it silently – he will not allow Bella to suffer on his behalf if he can help it.

Jane’s reaction to Bella makes me laugh. Yes, she is a bully - who also has a real jealous streak, not liking anyone to be seen as more important than her. And HATES that she can’t control Bella. The fact that she prepares herself to pounce on Bella is evidence of that. That little girl is evil incarnate, in my mind…

Aro’s invitation for Edward & Alice to join him was scary enough. But when he extended the same invitation to Bella, my heart nearly stopped. His greediness truly knows no bounds – even his brother is upset by the very thought, but Aro only wants their powers to be within his control. I have to be honest, Jane’s little temper tantrum just made my day there. Oh, how she hates Bella!

And then, we come to the crux of the problem. What to do with Bella. I feel for her, even as I am frustrated ad her inability to see what Edward feels for her. She once again assumes incorrectly, and it breaks my heart to see her feelings of rejection:

“Unless you do intend to give her immortality?”
“And if I do?”
“Why, then you would be free to go home and give my regards to my friend Carlisle. But I’m afraid you would have to mean it.”
“Mean it,” I whispered. “Please.”
Was it really such a loathsome idea? Would he rather die than change me? I felt like I’d been kicked in the stomach. Edward stared down at me with a tortured expression…
And would it really matter that Alice was willing, would it make any difference if I did become a vampire, when the idea was so repulsive to Edward? If death was, to him, a better alternative than having me around forever, an immortal annoyance? Terrified as I was, I felt myself sinking down into depression, drowning in it…

And Alice steps in! *sigh* I love Alice! I see what you’re saying about Edward constantly finding Alice annoying, but again, look at it as a sibling thing. We also see a few times where it is mentioned how close Edward and Alice are to each other. My brother and I are the same – I love him dearly, but we poke each other with big sticks… so I don’t hold that against Edward. There’s no doubt in my mind that he would do the same for Alice as she does for them.

Caius’s warning is simple, yet deadly. He is not very pleased with Aro’s decision, and is frustrated and angry to be denied his form of justice. I don’t think that threat is to be taken lightly, for sure.

As far as I understand, Heidi’s role within the Volturi is as bait for “food”. I seem to remember reading something where Stephenie clarified that this is actually her power – she draws humans to her even more so than the “normal” vampire would.

Edward trying to get them out before the tourists arrive is interesting, in that he doesn’t do it just to protect Bella, in my mind. He and Alice have absolutely no desire to be there when the massacre begins, and I’m interested as to how it would have affected them had they witnessed it and smelled the blood… would they have been able to control themselves? Would that have been a real danger? Especially given that Edward hasn’t eaten in quite some time… and would the bloodlust possibly cause him to turn on Bella? Just a thought…

The little woman whom no one understands really gets to me, just as she does to Bella. How horrifying! To know that something is drastically wrong, and not be able to communicate with anyone – to be surrounded by people, yet truly alone? *shudders* And, despite their best attempts, they still hear them start to scream… I cannot imagine going through that.

As usual, you have said everything that needs to be said. I have just one thing to add. I keep seeing people refer to Jane and Alec as twins. SM never says that the ARE twins. This is Bella's description as we meet Alec:

"The pale boy in the pearl gray suit could have been Jane's twin. His hair was darker, and his lips were not as full, but he was just as lovely."

He is not truly her twin, only that they look like they could be - just like Jasper and Rosalie. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way they behave towards each other.

And I totally agree with what you said about Alice and Edward's relationship. I felt there were plenty of scenes that shows just how much Edward loves and appreciates Alice, although most of that comes from MS and other outtakes/extras in Edward's POV - love being in Edward's head!!

I did enough review of the book to see the movie description, while not actually in SM's words in books/website, I am pretty sure she would have explained that to CW in the movie making process as an answer to his question. Imagine Alice forseeing that future and beacuse they are constantly in each other's heads having to face the future you didnt want for the one person you would die for...knowing that in your heart your probably dooming them to eternal damnation...He doesnt wanna change Bella, but he realizes that at some unforseeable point (Alice's visions are not perfect) that he will be once again forced to choose, and losing her this time is going to be the final straw for him. Alice knows that he will eventually do the one thing that he wants nothing more than to prevent...
Also Alice mentions that she thinks the whole thing is silly (Bella staying human)...relying heavily on her visions and whatever certainty they provide. Imagine having access to your worst nightmare every day...as soon as she thinks it...u see it...its like having a protective sister that always tells u what to do...mind u she's almost always right...lol...but that just makes it worse doesnt it?...personally I agreed with Alice completely...Changing Bella would have wrapped the whole story up quickly though...following Wolf Pack War and possible deaths...which would have sucked...Glad that SM dragged out the experience into BD...

I Love Everything about this chapter, I am also obsessed with the Volturi...and especially the relationships they have with one another...and if I picked a favorite member? Aro's deceivingly gentle nature scares the Hale outta me...Caius has no additional powers except a war-like contempt for all humanity...and Marcus...I would say he's my favorite... Alec and Jane are the unstoppable villainous versions of the wonder-twins...

Im also very intrigued by the Volturi n I dont like how theyve been portrayed in these trailers. And since the Volturi r very ancient I think its just culture 4 them 2 hold hands n kiss one another.I cant wait 4 da movie!!!!!!!

yea... for them its no big deal... also their relationships are odd...they do in some odd way have love for one another...but many of these relationships are based on power structure...so portraying them accurately is going to be difficult...so much of their backstory and important elements of their character development cant all be included...i think CW is going to do his best...but the volturi are hard...especially Aro...and Marcus...I think Caius is more straightforward...idk we're gonna love it either way *crosses fingers*

And I too love Alice and Edward. They're like the greatest brother/sister pair ever!

I know... their relationship is such a huge part of the drama that ensues, their closeness does so much for the story for me...One thing I did like about CH...she knew how to cast, they interact well on screen... and I love how she introduces Alice to Bella... it captures her personality so well...awww shes my little neck snapper! (haha James)!
