Robert Pattinson’s Vanity Fair Interview, Plus Outtakes!

It’s the gift that keeps on giving! We now have a sneak peek of Rob’s Vanity Fair interview, plus some amazing outtakes!

In the interview Rob touches base on how he has been living out of a suit case, and has been quite overwhelmed at times over the past year -

“I’m trying not to drown,” he says in his hotel room at the San Diego Hard Rock Hotel, which is littered today with beer bottles, old scrambled eggs, a half-eaten Twix bar, and a dirty pair of jeans on the living-room floor. And he notices that he hasn’t made his bed. “Oh, God. Sorry about that.”“I’m unbearably self-conscious about stuff,” he admits. To the point where, while filming scenes before the army of New York paparazzi that has been following him around, he is terrified that his “ass crack is showing.”

Despite the fact that he is an exquisite beauty—with perfectly formed red, red lips and a face that might have been dreamed by the Romantic poets—he thinks he resembles “a cartoon character.” One of his legs is longer than the other, which makes him look, he assures you, “like an idiot.”

He’s sure he’s driving people crazy by constantly talking about how he can’t leave his hotel room. And he sees his inability to relish his fans’ reverence as his own shortcoming. “I guess I’m not the type of guy cut out to do a franchise,” he says. “I’m not much of a crowd person.”

[Pattinson’s director from the indie film How to Be, Oliver Irving,] recalls, “he’d make his eyes water and get himself all worked up … slapping himself and doing everything he possibly could to make him feel ill,” while passersby wondered what the hell was the matter with this guy.

When you play a weirdo, he explains, “You can always have an excuse… He’s a weirdo!”

“What Rob and Kristen had is a multitude of feelings for each other. Complex feelings for each other,” says Hardwicke. “It was what we needed. Complex, intense fascination.”

    Im a Robsten fan....and yes we will always have hope for the two. Its just a natural thing for us to want to believe. Any other woman besides KStew (or myself!) ha....is unacceptable to Robsten fans....so the fact that he has not been dating anyone (to our knowledge) helps us keep our fantasy of them in place! Especially when you read as much fanfiction as I. Good day!

    I will stop shipping if I see him(and KStew) with someone else, but since nothing like that has happened for a long time( as he hasn't been seen with any girl besides KS since Nina and he basically hangs out with KS all the time and KStew has only been seen with RP since she split with MA), and the fact that the denials are not really flat out denials, I will continue believing in them. Besides the article is not new,as in it's few months old.(from June and July), it's November now, a lot has happened over those few months
    His actions don't back up his words,and like the saying goes 'actions speak louder than words'.

    Trying to compare the differences? Convenient since Taylor is suppose to be carrying New Moon. I know it is totally NOT Taylor's fault that he is being advertised as: Buff, friendly Taylor actually is buff, friendly Jacob and Rob is being sold as: Edward is this perfect but tortured soul and Rob is nothing like him except, maybe tortured! Kristen is sort of been treated the same way, I think.

    I kind of feel sorry for all three of them with all the marketing ploys being put upon them.

    and the article preview? can't wait to read it in its entirety. rob is at his best in intimate interviews and i'm so fascinated with his wit, charm, insightful answers and unpredictability.

    rob is totally not the usual young actor who is coached to give the predictable answers and what sets him apart from the rest of the pack is his ability to give unfiltered answers that almost always charms us all the way to our curling toes :))

    i won't be surprised if this VF issue will become one of its best sellers, just like what rob did for GQ !!

    It's hard being his wife. people expect me to behave a certain way or look a certain way but I'm full of shockers.     Rob should not be defined by who he is dating. He is an actor and musician. There are a thousand questions that could be asked about his career, his hobbies, his life in general. His future goals in the industry.

    Even before this came out, there was a certain person(not on this site) who said there would be something in it many people would deem a denial, but it wouldn't actually be a flat out denial, the person said it was for Kristen's safety( her quote in this interview is old btw) and there's more to it than meets the eye, also said it's just another step for 'the big reveal'.
    I didn't know what to make of it and thought the person's FOS, but it's just like she/he said. Not saying it's true, but it's interesting.

    I don't like how the author put her own spin on his quote. He's clearly addressing Robsten tabloid rumours which are BS in 90% of the cases(pregnancy,marriage, secret visits to LA etc), it's like the answer he gave in the ET interview in april, it's the same. The denial would be 'No, Kristen and I weren't and aren't dating', 'we're just friends', 'we were never romantically involved'. What he said is ambiguous and open to different interpretations.
    Now I can't wait for their TV interviews, let's see what is said there.

    Yes, the video interviews are the best because we can hear the self-depreciating HUMOR in what he's saying. In print it's kind of flat...unless the interviewer gets it. That was one of the great things about the GQ article--the interview "Got it" and went with it, clueing us in on the jokes, using them as metaphors on his new life.

    I think he is trying like mad for some sort of balance. If everyone makes such a big deal about how great he is, the only way to counter it and stay sane without buying into his own hype is to downplay it. It may be as simple as he just isn't comfortable in his own skin and honestly can't bring himself to believe it. I suspect he isn't doing it for anyone but himself. Just a thought........

    If the rest of the article follows this path, I think I will skip reading it and just look at the pictures. I don't like reading anything negative about him. He sounds miserable.

    Seriously stop talking about Robsten. We all have our own opinions, isn't that enough? It is what it is. They will never (I hope) confirm they are in a relationship. They are already under enough pressure, why add to it?

    The interviewer should've asked better questions or come up with something new to talk about. Ask Rob what influences his music, or if he will try to learn the guitar better.

    Ask him what kind of an album he would put out there. What inspires him before doing a scene in the films or what his process is to get ready for a big scene. Such as, the break up scene. Kristen has said she bawled her eyes out in her car before filming that. How did Rob prepare for it?

    If I want to read silly tabloid stories I will buy OK! and InTouch. VF, I expect better from you.

    But they need to wake up and smell the roses, every magazine does at the moment, it's not all about relationships, or how much weight they put on or how they exercise at the gym everyday. It's about creativity, prospects, hobbies, inside there minds, how they think. I want to learn and admire Rob, not get possessed with another overshadow of OK! magazine. I don't need that, neither do foolish people out there who believe all that crap.

    It's time to move on from the subject of Robsten, it's more then obvious, even Jesus know's something is going on. The guy is dead. My cat can sense it as well. She's alive, but still. I think if they keep it bottled up any longer it may be worse for them then just getting it out into the open. But i'm all for pretending there not together, it's so much fun, watching it.

    Ok, sorry I took so long to respond but here goes. I am a fan of Robsten, if I sounded negative about the VF article I didn't mean to. Notice my avi? It's Kristen, with no Rob. I'll admit I didn't care for her in the beginning. I thought she was weird in interviews and a little off-putting but I've changed my opinion of her now.

    I will definitely buy the HB magazine. Hell, last week I bought Allure just because Kristen was on the cover. Anyway my point is if the only thing an interviewer can ask Rob is about Kristen, then he needs to find a new line of work. Robsten will never openly admit their relationship. I prefer it that way because they are already under so much pressure. I like my Robsten tucked away in the closet. If a reporter can find intelligent questions to ask instead of "are you dating Kristen" or blah blah blah I would be more interested in the article.

    I wanted to learn more about Rob the man and what makes him tick.

    My initial reaction to the article was not: Gee whiz, is he denying that there is a relationship?

    And I think that is the overall problem. Everyone is focused on the personal lives of Robsten that we can't even get a magazine interview anymore without it coming up.

    And it is sad that out of all of the things in this article, some are only focused on that one quote that he said.

    Who cares? I don't need them to come out and say that they are together or dating or have chemistry or are more than just friends. I have my own opinions on that.

    What I want is an interview that focuses on Rob .. and that is it. Him dating Kristen is not the only thing that captivates me or intrigues me. I love him as an actor, as a musician, as an artist, as this breath of fresh air to all of the other cookie cutter pretty boys his age in Hollywood.

    I don't need the millionth denial that nothing is going on. There are so many more things for Rob to talk about then Kristen effing Stewart.

    So, reporters, can we please get away from acting like OK and Life and Style magazines. The shiznit is getting old.

    Nice to read an interview where he is actually encouraged to talk about his character and what he has learned since becoming an actor.

    Yes, it seems that Vanity Fair tried to jump on the are they or aren't they gossip bandwagon and no one is buying this as serious reporting. Now we have Gossip Cop.

    So the things are inconclusive as before...as if anyone cares anymore...I say live and let live. If there are relationships in their lives that they want to talk about, they will, otherwise...

    Exceptional interview. This is how it should be done. The questions were great and were focused on the film and how Rob got into his role and studied the character of Edward.

    I love how Rob compares the Twilight vamps to the Interview with a Vampire vamps.

    And no personal questions. This is how the VF interview should have been done.

    I think the reason for that is that some Robsten fans are so fanatical, that other people start to focus on this part on the interview more than the others.

    And TeamYouCanGoToHell, that gossipcop article didn't prove anything, I can go out to a few concerts with my guy friends or to dinner that doesn't mean that I'm dating every guy friend that I happen to go out with some place. Also all the places that Robert and Kristen were spotted at, they were never alone, there was always someone else with them at the outing. That's like a group of friends going out together...

    Like I said I don't care one way or the other, but because some robsten fans are so fanatical this issue seems to get more importance than it deserves, and that's why poor Robert and Kristen have had to endure endless meaningless questions about a relationship that they have been denying from the get go.

    Now to reply to your comment: I don't think that the Robsten fans can be blamed here. I am a self proclaimed Robsten fan, true blue in fact. I have no doubt in my mind that they are more than just friends. I could go into the multitude of reasons why, but it would take up this whole page, so I will spare the details. And to each their own on the Robsten thing. I will not jump down your throat for not being one.

    My point is that Vanity Fair has a reputation of being a magazine that does insightful, intriguing interviews. Not trashy, tabloid, gossip column stupidness such as this.

    They used old CH and KStew quotes and then outright asked the Robsten question. And I ask why. Who cares if some of us like Robsten together and think they make each other happy? That doesn't mean that I want every single interview that is done with Rob to be about Kristen Stewart, and vice versa.

    This is the very reason why Rob and Kristen cannot do promotions by themselves anymore. Because every single reporter, interviewer, anchor personality has to sink to the lowest common denominator and ask the personal question that everyone knows they are NOT gonna answer.

    Bottom line: This is ridiculous for this magazine to sink to this level. And I am personally tired of it all being blamed on the Robsten fans.

    I completely agree. I am a huge Robsten fan, but honestly don't want to hear about it. I like reading interesting things in interviews, not the typical are they/aren't they question.

    I'm disappointed in VF and certain "fans." I'm disappointed in VF because of quotes they've used (especially the one of CH saying Rob was always drunk) that are showing him in a bad light. Yes, we know he smokes, he drinks, and he's not exactly the cleanest person on the planet. But the way they've worded everything is so negative. And the whole Robsten section of the article is going to ruin VF's credible reputation.

    I'm disappointed with fans who now say after reading this VF article that they are completely upset with Rob for denying Kristen or leading them on all these months and are now disowning him. They have completely turned on him and refuse to see anything he or kristen are involved in. It's ridiculous! Obviously they aren't true Rob fans if they will stop supporting him for something the interviewer said, but I honestly wish the article never occurred and only the photos did. This whole thing is causing major drama.

    - VF has lost their good reputation
    - Robsten/NonRobsten fans are fighting more than ever
    - Robsten fans are now fighting amongst themselves
    - Rob is portrayed in a bad light in this article, causing him to lose some so-called fans

    *sigh* It's exhausting. I am a Rob fan, a Kristen fan, and a Robsten fan. As much as things in this article annoy me, it in no way affects how I portray the two. I still support them and really hope this VF issue doesn't cause even bigger drama.

    I always find Rob more comfortable in TV interviews, he lets himself go. Or with Kristen or any of the Twilight cast. But when he is by himself it is like he puts himself down and i just want to give him a hug. ALL THE TIME, for different personal and obsessive reasons.

    His pictures are perfection though, that, is the only positive out of it and the fact that he still seems like the dorky Rob i fell in love with. I'm patiently waiting for Harpers Bazaar magazine and nabbing the first HQ still of the best Robsten picture. Hopefully that interview is just about what they might do in their spare times and hobbies.

    The line about Rob dating Kristen hasn't got a hint of denial in it. It is like he is telling people that no the magazines are bull and that they couldn't have dated because they were in different countries.     Agree. He should leave his hotel--just hire another bodyguard if need be. Enjoy himself. Get his own place, acquire a few things like his own car. Make good use of his money. No use waiting for life to come or for things to calm down. He can be smart and life his own life.

    Guess experience is it's own reward, huh? We can't expect him to be Johnny Depp when Johnny has been in the business for what, 15 yrs and has learned from his own mistakes and is now able to be cool about his fame. Guess Rob needs his own space, so he can get some perspective, too.

    Oh Wow, these are...no words...I love the one where he's eating and I love the one where he's sprawled on the ground by the piano with his foot on it, and the one...well, all of them really. I just realized what I like so much about these pics, they are so real, no pretense, no trying to hog the camera or be something that he's not. He just is...and it is really sexy!! It's like the pictures feel "real", that's the word I was looking for, Robert Pattinson is real i.e down to earth and genuine.

    In addition he is talented acting wise and music wise (well we have to hear more from him musically to make a final judgment on that. I want to hear him playing the piano more).

    And of course his personality, now I know that we can't really tell one's personality by a few interviews. However from what I'm seeing of Robert, he comes off as very genuine, humble and just real (I never feel like he's trying to pretend or show off or anything like that). So from what I know about him, he's got a great personality. And one can't help but really like him.

    looks, personality, talent, charm, charisma, sex appeal, humility, sensitivity and humor...

    Also I don't know if anyone noticed this, since I'm sure we're all busy looking at the pics, but Robert has just essentially denied Robsten, lol. I don't really care one way or the other, but as far as I am concerned they are not together. I know that now I'll get flamed by the Robsten fanatics, and they'll start analyzing Robert's words to death to find a loop hole lol. But as far as I am concerned when they stop saying that they are just friends, and they announce that they are dating, then I'll wish them all the best... as for now I believe them when they say they are just friends.

    Oh and I know my post is becoming really long (that’s why I divided it into two posts, lol) but I feel that Catherine Hardwicke (sp?) is just running her mouth because she wants to be in the spot light a little longer.

    I'll reserve judgment on the article until it is released fully. But so far I like it, overall.

    Now back to the pics, great pics *dreamy sigh*

    For me, I don't want Robsten to come out as a couple. I don't want them to go to the premier together. I want Taylor to sit between them at the press conferences so we won't see the interaction that got us all hooked. I like the suspense :)))......

    But seriously, as long as the Bedward chemistry from the saga is there, the Robsten chemistry from their personal lives can remain personal, I'm good.......

    I am so on the fence with this. A part of me wished that I could see them show up to a premiere together, smiling, happy, showing that they are together without all the awkwardness of not showing that they are.

    But at the same time, I agree with you. Because it has gotten to the point where it overshadows everything else. I never wanted their relash to overshadow their performances in the movies and what they do in the future.

    I respect them enough to support if they want to stay private and keep things on the down low, and these reporters should do the same thing.

    I understand and agree with you......that's what I was trying to get at. I, like most of the fans, want to see the old interaction, when they could really enjoy their work.....but the whole thing with the paps and the need to confirm "Robsten" is taking away from the saga. I've watched the clips and I see so much improvement in their acting, it makes me feel like a proud mama bear, but guess what the spotlight is gonna be on come Nov. 20th.....

    I'm all for them keeping things private if they so choose, because it's their PRIVATE lives, and as I said, the suspense......

    I was wondering if Tay-Tay would take the heat off of them, but I really don't think so. I'm just hoping it doesn't reach to a point where either Rob or Kristen decides to quit the series or we have a Princess Diana scenario on our hands..........one more movie to go and hopefully they can get to breathe .........

    I agree. It started out as, "Oh, look at them, they are flirting and are so cute together and having fun and picking stuff off of each other's faces, and fake punching each other, and are so fun loving." and now it's just "Epic Awkwardness."

    I hate it. Despise it. I know this is the worst kind of blasphemy, but I almost wished that they were not together so that we could get that back. The funloving carefree Rob and Kristen interviews.

    Everything is so fake now. So acted and scripted. Even the Taysten interviews. It's irritating and annoying.

    I like Rob and Kristen together because they are so much alike and seem to make each other so happy. But I never wanted THIS.

    I'm just so confused right now on my feelings toward the whole Robsten issue. I like them together, but hate how the promotions are done now. They can't do anything by themselves, and it is all an act.

    I respect them wanted to be private about it, but stop the uncomfortable awkwardness. :)

    I would, and this is not because i want to see it, even though i really really do, but i would rather see them happy, holding hands, laughing, being able to be themselves infront of people. Then i would to have them mystical and acting false around each other, covering and hiding the love they share.

    Sometimes, people forget this as well, and i can't talk because i lie and scheme my way out of EVERYTHING, but sometimes telling the truth is the best thing. The pressure you have will have gone away.

    I hope Robsten are both ok, how ever they are. I just care for there health and happiness.

    The interview was from a long time ago...so it doesn't hold that much ground to me. As alot of these interviews go.

    Then Jenny Garth said he was dating someone...and Billy Burke didn't deny them for sure...and he denied being single...yada-yada-yada...the list goes on.

    And they may have just had 'fun' while filming too? Since neither of them could leave their hotel room(s). And they went everywhere together. But I really think more has happened since this interview...I'm not 100% convinced they're not dating.

    I couldn't tell you exactly why, except for how-much has pointed in their direction. Their body language, the way they look at each other, hotel rooms together, and all those flirty things...

    Words really don't mean much in interviews either. Most of it's rehearsed and under contracts...PR and all that ucky stuff!
    I can tell a friend I don't like her, when inside I know I'm totally lying. The person who would say I was fibbing, would be the one who watched how I actually behaved with her...

    It's very bad on VF's part if they didn't include 'Robert's rep didn't confirm or deny' disclaimer in their article, since the author contacted Summit as well as KStew and Rob's reps, right before the interview was turned in, to again confirm or deny Robsten, only to get 'no comment' from them.

    I think R&K had a fun little 'fling' during Eclipse...if anything. And I think after a bit of a break, they'll realize that they want to be exclusive...if they haven't already? And then hopefully they'll FINALLY let their 'patient' fans in on it?

    Or am I just dreaming???

    They can deny their dating...but they can't deny that they at least played 'hotel' while they were there. lol
