Kristen Stewart will be the star of not just one but two films premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in late January 2010.
The already announced Welcome to the Rileys will be joined by Kristen Stewart’s The Runaways , a biopic where she plays the legendary late 70′s rocker Joan Jett. New Moon co-star Dakota Fanning plays alongside Kristen Stewart in the film.
To showcase the diversity to contemporary independent cinema, the Sundance Film Festival Premieres section offers the latest work from American and international directors as well as world premieres of highly anticipated films.
The Runaways / USA (Director and screenwriter: Floria Sigismondi)–In 1970s LA, a tough teenager named Joan Jett connects with an eccentric producer to form an all-girl band that would launch her career and make rock history. I don't think I could've been a fan of Joan Jett and been able to watch this film. I probably would've hated Kristen cause everything Kristen did would been like an imitation, no matter how well she did. Joan Jett is one of a kind. The movie revolves more around Cherie Currie than Joan. The runaways was Joans band, she put he gang together, she wrote the songs, but Cherie Currie was the lead singer. Dakota has some crazy stuff to do in this movie. As for Joan Jett you see her who she was in her teens, what were her aspirations and what Runaways meant for her. This isnt a Joan Jett biopic, its the Runaways movie. Joan and Cheries relationship is very specific, but at some point they just grew apart and everything went downhill.
Kristen cutting her hair was the best marketing move ,like EVER. But she is playing a Joan that most people didnt know or see.
My expectations are high for this movie. But it wont be a Kristen Stewart movie. And it wont be a Joan Jett movie. it wont be. Dakota is the centerpoint through 3/4. The climax and ending belong to Kristen, though.
