I am offcially in mourning! I have only just returned from watching New Moon for the first time (it was released just two days ago in Israel) and have to say that I was absolutely shattered by how terrible it is! There really are no words to encompasse the horror of what Melissa Rosenberg and Chris Weitz have done to my favorite book in the series. They have butchered it completely! Why? Why? It was so agonizing, sitting there for two hours and watching my beautiful book being mutelated into that grotesque parody they have the nerve to call a film. I am a huge fan of these books in general and of Robert Pattinson in particular and could not believe his dismal performance. Edward was nowhere to be found in this film! Robert and his character were completely lost in hideous writing, directing and editing. And don't even get me started on the lridiculous, 80's fantasy films type soundtrack that had nothing to do with the on-screen happenings. The wolf pack, both human and CGI was shameful in appearance as well as acting. Kristen Stewart killed Bella entirely: there was not a single shot of credible pain, longing, sorrow or love from her. Nothing. Not for a moment did I believe that she is truly, unconditionally and irrevocably in-love with Edward. The most beautiful, painful and iconic chapter of the book, where she saves Edward was reduced to a cheap, music video type moment. The kissing was utterly passion-less. I don't know… I could go on forever. I am actually crying while I'm typing these words (forgive any spelling errors, I just don't care right now!) because it hurts me so much to write them. I was so looking forward to watching this film, eagerly and devotedly following the process of its filming and release. It just seems unfair. Why did they have to ruin it so completely? Oh, and Alice's vision of Edward and Bella after her transformation? Was that real? The book is called New Moon, not Bella in Wonderland!!! I had planned to watch this film a million times over, but I am never going to watch it again, it is simply too painful. To quote the mind-numbing Kristen Stewart: “It feels like a huge hole has been punched through my chest!” I want to cling to the hope that David Slade and my beautiful Robert at least (since I have completely given up on Kristen) will atone for this disaster with Eclipse. I am so sad…just so sad…
p.s: I am sorry to anyone who has been offended by my comment, but I cannot tell a lie. No matter how much I love Robert and Twilight, and I assure you that I love them both acutely, I cannot allow that love to blind me to the tragic truth: New Moon is a disaster!

Hey don't apologize, it is your opinion and you are entitled to it. I know I thought that Kristen didn't show enough emotion. And yes the movie focused too much on pimping Jacob and J/B that the director and screen writer forgot what the story is about which is the E/B love story. They failed to remind the audience of why Edward and Bella are fated to be together.

I wouldn't say that NM was atrocious, I thought it was okay but I was disappointed in it because it could have easily been great. And like you I had initially planned to go see it in theaters more than once, but not after I saw it. I don't even think I will buy the dvd.

I hated the song they played when Bella was underwater it completely killed the heartbreak/longing/ and intensity of that scene.

I mean at least if they had reserved the E/B scenes intact and given us an emotional intense reunion, I would have been waiting for the dvd to come out. But they really cut us short on the E/B story and hence the movie had no heart or soul.

I would much rather watch Twilight over and over, even if I thought it could have been better visually, special effects and blue tint. But at least Twilight had heart and soul, and that's why I love it despite the flaws. And I really hope that they get a really good director for BD, because I really don't want to be disappointed anymore.

However I do think you went a little overboard with it. However it is your opinion, as for me I would give it a 3/5 stars.

I agree that you need to see it a second time. I initially had the same reaction when I saw it the first time, but when you go back and see it again it gets better; it actually flows a lot better each time you see it as you know what to expect, you are anticipating nothing. It is the initial shock against all that you have been longing and expecting the movie to be and then, BAM you have some scenes that are rushed through, the not as passionate kissing scenes we were thinking we were going to get, and the soundtrack music that was constantly scattered throughout the movie (which I kind of ignored actually).

Go see it again, I think you may not feel so bad about the movie afterwards.

Thanks for trying to cheer me up, I really do appreciate it! But, don't you think that we deserved a better film than a one which requires us to make such allowences? Why shouldn't we expect quality in the writing, the editing, the directing, the performances? Why should we be so willing to compromise? Stephenie Meyer wrote beautiful (if deeply flawed, sorry but its true) novels that could and should have been made into beautiful films. CH made many mistakes with her adaptation of Twilight, but despite these, she managed to capture something of the essence of both the tale and the characters. There were moments in Twilight when Robert was just brilliant in his portrayal of Edward. When I wrote that Edward was nowhere to be found in New Moon, I wasn't referring to his physical absence but to the absence of his true personality in those scenes where he does appear. He just isn't himself and everything feels so contrived. I don't think we should be so forgiving. We deserve better in every way. I felt sorry for Robert, he was struggling throughout. He wanted to do his job, but the lines were so horrible, it was rendered impossible. Why the hell do they keep on hiring Melissa Rosenberg? She should be banned from ever writing another screeplay in her life!!!

You have no idea how much I love this man, and I don't mean the kind of love that makes you scream at the sight of him or wish he would father your baby. I am a writer (again, forgive the spelling errors, it IS 5 AM in I srael, and I haven't slept in about 36 hours) and Robert is my muse. I am not kidding, he actually is my muse. I am on the verge of finishing the final revision on my novel that was largely inspired by him. I love Robert and know that he has more talent than he is letting on, but he really wasn't good in this film and his diction is abismal. Edward is meant to be articulate, but Robert's American accent sounds too modern. He should work on that. He is so perfect when speaking and acting in his original accent. Did you see his lost scene from the movie Vanity Fair? Now that was how Edward should sound! Perfect!!!

Despite my faith in David Slade, I cannot help but wonder how much better Eclipse will really be when it was again adapted into a screenplay by MR. I think that the most we can hope for is Twilight quality, which will already be a 100% improvement on New Moon. It's sad really, CW is such a nice guy, I wish he were an equally good director! And I am sorry to have to disagree with you, but Kristen was impossibly bad. Where is the electricity between Bella and Edward that lighted up our hearts and libidos in Twilight? Are six months sufficient to lose enthusiasm about Edward? It would take me an eternity, and even that would not be enough! Lol. I love Edward, and it was Edward who made me love him through Midnight Sun. It was the first Twilight Novel (well semi-novel) I read, and Edward's voice and POV is the most compelling. He is perfect, even in his flaws!

I agree with most of what you said too. Though I liked certain parts better than Twilight I was still left disappointed. Though right after the movie I was thrilled, but after watching it 3 times, and then letting it stew in my head for a bit, I realized it was lacking greatly.

I was thrilled that the actors looked better, for the most part, I really hated the blue tint in Twilight and the terrible camera movements, but that is expected with a low budget movie. Though I loved Taylor, er for the most part, in New Moon, some of his lines were BAD, and either it be the acting, or the screen writing, some lines really needed to be left on the editing room floor.

I agree also that Kristen didn't show enough “sadness” through tears, especially, when Edward leaves, again disappointed with that.

I was also disappointed with how much was left out. So many scenes of the growing relationship/friendship between Bella and Jacob, when she willing holds his hands, when he holds her on his lap to keep her warm, oh so much left out, all put in a 3min music video in his garage, with NO talking…. And then so much was left out in the end between Bella and Edward! The whole part where she kept thinking she was dreaming, that he really was going to leave, that she wasn't good enough for him and he felt like he wasn't good enough for her….

I'm not sure if it is MR fault or CW, but I'm really annoyed that again so much was left out of this movie, as there was with Twilight. I mean Summit MUST be rolling around in the money now right?! They MUST be able to afford a 3 hour movie, I mean COME ON! Give the fans what they want!

I agree and desagree with somethings and always argue about KS performance I don think that was any other way that somebody can show more emotion than her. That scene when the months pass by are unibelivable, they are heart breaking, her face, the desolation in her eyes, the color of her skin, her hair what more feeling you want. People said they are big fons of the books an I respect that, but if you are a big fan of the books you will know that she never cry in New Moon she try to hide her feeling for charlie, she had a fit once when rene came to pick her up, that was it, she talk about “the hole in her chest” “the pain to take me” I think KS really showed that she merly smile in the film, for me it was devating to watch her.
We all love Edward Cullen but saldly he disapier in New Moon and they give us more then just his voice, the put him in her visions. I agree that the first kiss in volterra could be more, yes more pasion, longer even lets said more agresive maybe. New moON is not about E/B any more is about him living her, she finding her safe board, trying to lear how live with out him, it is a depressing book, full of her desolation pain and griving and I think the movie is pretty much that a dark sad movie. Twiligth is a much much happy book, with heart and soul, the crazy frenzy of the new love, the first kiss, the rush, all that is gone for her in New Moon.
I agree that they could do a better job and my opinion give the movie more continuaty for me it was jumpy, jumping from scene to scene trying to put everything in, but I think it was a good sad movie.

MR should stick to DEXTER (good show, great actor) and leave Twilight to more capable hands. Adapting a novel into a screenplay is one of the most difficult things to do, and I would expect a writer who is incapable of doing it to forefit the mission. BELIEVE IT NOT, AND THIS IS FOR TWILIGHT_IN_PHX as well, since I haven't the option to reply her last comment directly, I am at the moment adapting Breaking Dawn into a screenplay, just for myself, since I have such beautiful ideas for how it should be made. Sorry for singing my own praises, but if only Summit could read my adaptation of Breaking Dawn…I don't think that any Twilight fan would disapprove. The openning scene I have come up with alone is enough to cause you a heart attack (in the good sense of the word). So I understand that it isn't easy, but that is not a valid excuse for MR or the studio for that matter. Your opinions on CH and CW I mostly agree with, but Chris isn't that good with the CGI either, so where does that leave us?

Yeah – the dialogue was a major problem….I always felt like they were going for the comic relief and it pulls you out of the depressing mood that you're supposed to be feeling. Biggest example: when Bella is screaming from her nightmares and Charlie comes to check on her and he just starts talking nonsense and calling himself a “ladies man”…meanwhile Bella is depressed out of her mind. I think they had a problem with keeping the tone of the film…it seems like CW was afraid to keep it so depressing…but that's how the book is.

Hey Ladies!

Well I know we all have our own opinions on the subject and I respect everyone's views. I however would have to disagree, I think New Moon was really good, in fact I thought it followed the book pretty acuratly. I remember leaning over to my cousin and saying “wow this is exactly like the book” it was way more detailed than Twilight was and I also loved Twilight a lot.

The whole thing with Kristen not showing emotion, well I think she did. She didn't cry at that scene because she was trying to portay a girl that is in shock over what had just happened. Like she is almost like a frozen figure and she can't feel anything, she is like a zombie. Then she ends up tripping and she cuddles up in a ball and to me when I saw that, that really impacted me as someone who is in severe shock over what had happened. Sometimes a person doesn't have to cry to show how they feel and I thought Kristen portrayed that well.

I also thought that Robert's performace was very very good. I still felt a huge connection between Rob and Kristen. There kisses to me were quite passionate. The very first one in the parking lot, followed by that very intense kiss by her truck, that gave me shivers, and then the reunion part as well was a very like I need you kiss. Yes the reunion scene was a little rushed but I mean it is already a 2hr 10 min movie so I think they got out the basic parts. Rob hit on the head, this is Jacob's movie which it truly is, like in order to have the whole love triangle thing in Eclipse, they needed to develop his character. Trust me I am a HUGE Team Edward gal but that is what New Moon is in the whole middle portion of the book.

I know alot of you ladies do not like Melissa Rosenberg but truthfully I don't really find anything wrong with the dialogue. I mean it doesn't really bug me. I just love the actors so much I think. Eclipse is going to be way more darker and action packed but I think we need to believe in David Slade and just stay positive about it all.

Anywho just my opinions so I hope no one is annoyed at me.

Sorry just to show an example of how Kristen showed her emotions without being too sappy is one lady has an Avi of this but when she is going to Italy to save Edward and she sees him and she is holding her heart because seeing him like that makes her heart hurt and like break so that is just one example of how I thought Kristen showed the emotion in New Moon.

I´m liking the idea of Robert interacting and doing all the stuff that is needed to promote a film call the film what you want…and is very interesting to me how he interacts with other actors or actresses and I hope to see a very nice, hot or wathever photoshoot with Emilie de Ravin because they are promoting a film and that is what all the actors are supossed to do…and in private matters they can have all the private photoshoots with the person they love…but I want to see Tyler of Remember Me and forget Edward in that moment, the same when I saw Salvador Dali or other characters ( I hope a busy future) that he is going to portray so…

No, I agree with you. I like New Moon, it followed the book very closely. I think the problem is that so many people set their expectations too high–that made it very hard to accept the movie for what it was. Also–with all the trailers, spoilers, leaked footage–it felt the first time I saw the movie that I had seen a part of almost every scene…add that to the fact that we have all read the book, and some of us had read the script…we had way too much information to process when we finally saw the movie.

I have seen New Moon 5 times now and I have found I liked and appreciated this movie more with each viewing,

I think Charlie's line was in keeping with his being her dad. It would have been different if Bella had lived with her mother…mothers generally know how to comfort during emotionally troubled times–dads are at a loss. An attempt of levity seemed appropriate at that time, to me. I liked the little touches like that.

I didn't feel they really held back on the depression. They movie had plenty of depression and heartbreak.

True. My daughter's living in Korea. She loved the books but had only seen the first trailer which I emailed her the link to–when she saw New Moon, she loved it. She kept going on and on to me how amazing it was that it was such a faithful adaptation to the book!

You know what scene people always loudly gasp at when I've seen New Moon? They always gasp and hold there breath when they see Edward on the phone in Rio when he thiinks Bella's dead. That gets them every time!

No, I think they're shocked it's Edward and that he looks so gaunt–haunted, thin, and totally destroyed. He looks …just totally defeated…and then he crushes the phone…one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the movie.

Have you ever seen the film Little Women with Winona Ryder? If you have, do you remeber the way they spoke there, that formal and pronounced articulation? That is what Edward should sound like, according to SM at least. Bella never ceases to stress how different his articulation is to that of the modern humans. It's not just his vocabulary and syntax. Robert omits too many consonants when he speaks with an American accent, and since MR REALLY butchered his lines (Edward in the book rarely speaks as informally as he does in the film, MR's paraphrasing sucks!) it somehow all adds up to him sounding like a diluted version of his book-self. As for his acting: you can't give a man stale water and expect him to produce out of it fine wine, after all , though he is the god of my idolatry (did you get the ref to Romeo and Juliet? wink*), Robert is only human. The script sucked and his performance was suitably poor. Trust me when I tell you that NO ONE wants him to excel in his acting more so than I, but he just didn't do it for me in this fiilm, and it was largely not his fault.

I agree the movie could have been better. I think we are missing about 30 minutes that would have made the movie seem less choppy. Perhaps we needed the LOTR Director. I definitely want a new writer. I've always hated MR. I think it is much better than Twilight….I believe the true issue here is that Summit is under the mindset that we are all 13 years old. And the fact that they added action to make it seem less chick flicky didn't help either. Its rather patronizing even to the 13 year olds. On the flip side we did get to see some wonderful moments. I loved the older generation in this film. I also loved the scene in the hotel room where Edward finds out about Bella's jump. So I will see it again and hope that at the very least these talented actors can use the Twilight wave to go on to bigger and better things.

Yes, I have seen and read Little Women and I enjoyed that story very much.

Little Women took place in the 1860's, I believe, during the time of the Civil War and they were in New England. Edward lived in Chicago between 1901 and 1918–different time, different place. I think that had he lived an earlier time his speech might have been different, but not so much in the 1900's. He did sound more formal in his speech, to me, in comparison to teens I know, now.

Perhaps your interpretation might have been different while reading the book. I know I feel that way about many things in Twilight books and with many other books that I have seen adapted to the big screen.

I can't believe that some ppl hated New Moon!! Like WTH!! I liked the movie even more than the book!! The book was so slow and kinda boring… and the movie more exciting with the werewolf and the Volturi!! The only part I didn't like was Bella and Edward's reunion…It was to short..but still romatic!! I saw the movie 3 times..and I'll go see it again!! Cw is a genius..and Kristen was amazing.. so stop hating her and her acting!! I want Cw for BD but Mr as to be out!! I can believe they kept her for Eclipse!! Anyway we all have different opinions and I respect them all… But New Moon was an amazing movie for me

im sry but im SO jumping in this convo unwelcomed…lol…but i think the feel of the movies is what really changed…catherine (sometimes she irks me and then i realize she did a lot of things right) had a very indie vision for this movie, and itts characters…i dont think she expected it to explode the way it did…catherine was all about that quirky retelling of twilight…and at times i liked that…she did a lot of things right…and she did what she could…cuz remember summit WAS indie…not an industry giant…summit aint FOX and sometimes i have to remember that…just look up her rap sheet…now CW on the other hand had done the golden compass…and although it didnt receive the acclaim…he knew how to attack a franchise that had grown the size of twilight…and HE did a lot of things right…but everything wasnt perfect…there are things i would change…No Hate In My Voice now when i say that…I think its a matter of perspective…different directors means each movie will have a diff tone…maybe we need that…since each book has a diff tone…i think its about balance and perspective… we all are SO CLOSE to these books…its a part of my heart now…and i dont regret that at all…and we all see them a little differently…feel things about the words that were used and what was said…its hard to be objective when u want nothing more than to see your dream on the big screen… your vision…i think CW did a good job at mixing his view with what he knew we wanted…So yea the directors are diff and the movies are too…and ppl feel diff about them from one fan to the next…and we will all still hear ppl say “i heard twilight was lame” or “I dont get what all the fuss is about” … the important thing is that we as fans respect that we've really gotten to see our characters come to life…and Summit needs to remember that we got then here, and we will carry them further…regardless of director…and i love CW…and I have love for CH too… but at the end of the day? Im so happy i got to see edward and jake and bella come to life…Twilight will only get bigger…we just have to remember how special it was the first time we heard bella say “I never gave any thought to how I would die. But dying in the place of someone I love? Seems like a good way to go.” and the first time she looked in Edwards eyes…and u just knew she was done for…and hitting jake with the door of her truck establishing their goofiness together automatically…im gonna stop analyzing everything…cuz if i do i wont love it anymore…and im gonna enjoy the hell outta eclipse…and tell the Dr inside me to shut up and enjoy herself for once…i feel thats how stephenie wrote it…so thats what im gonna do…done my rant now…

I dont't know, i liked some aspects others i hated…
Did somebody noticed she didn't shared a tear in whole movie( and please dont tell me she cried hidden a few times…)im talkking about real tears in full screen for everyone to watch???
Bella mentions it in the book many times…her eyes were all purple for the crying…how come we dindt see ONE in the whole movie…
It´s sad actually… really dont blame Chris Weitz i blame the screen writter acctually.
She's done a bad job with the first one, and got only worse with the second…
I dont even want to imagine if she eventually gets to do Breaking Dawn…breaks my heart just to think about it…

To sum it up, the movie was pretty dry!! It could have been done better. The connection between Edward and Bella was missing. Everything was just DRY. I mean the scenes before the birthday party could have been a little happier but instead, it preeempted all the emo scenes to come. Music was terrible. Gosh, how could it be better than twilight except for the beautiful sceneries which didn't even evoke the same emotions?? The Italy scene could have been a very exciting turning point but no, the scenes before it just didn't have enough build up! I could go on and on…Get Gore Verbinski of the pirates of the carribean for breaking dawn!

I can totally relate! My high school is like 14km away and I had to go by bike as well. And when I arrived at school I swear that my temperature was the same as a vampire! LOL
So glad I don't have to go to high school anymore! But besides from that, I love the snow!! We used to go skiing in Austria every winter, but were staying at home this year.
It was snowing like crazy last night!! The height of the snow has increased by 10 cm over here! It's getting to the point were it's too much. We can't even go anywhere because we don't have snow chains for the car. My mom drove her car into the bushes yesterday, it was so slippery! LOL
