Our friends at Hollywood Crush did a great comparison of the trailer for director Catherine Hardwicke’s new film Red Riding Hood and Twilight.

When the teaser trailer for director Catherine Hardwicke’s “Red Riding Hood” debuted earlier this week, the comparisons to her previous box office blockbuster, “Twilight,” flew faster than a vampire hunting Bella’s blood. At first blush, these comparisons seemed unoriginal and a silly bit of pandering to “Twilight”‘s rabid fanbase. But then we watched the trailer, and it’s pretty hard to ignore the similarities. Thematically, “Red Riding Hood” relies on similar elements: a love triangle, supernatural occurrences and grisly murders, just to name a few. But that’s the purview of the screenwriter. What’s all Catherine is the teaser’s visual elements, and here, even more so than in the plot, this film reeks of “Twilight.” So much so, in fact, that we took screengrabs from both films for a side-by-side comparison.

For someone who grew up in Texas, Catherine has an intense fascination with the forest—ethereal, mist-laden ones, in particular. A woodsy setting is a favored location for her characters to bare their souls. The better if her heroine shares revelations with her sweetheart while facing away from him. Who but Catherine’s couples have conversations while NOT FACING EACH OTHER?

I definitely thought of Twilight when I saw the trailer for Red Riding Hood. Love the comparison! LOL at “couples having conversation while not facing each other”!!

IMO Red Riding Hood IS twilight but with the wolf getting the girl instead a Vampire LOL!! still I am intrigued.. I think I will see it though!!

Directors have a distinct style to them. What CH did in Twilight, was her own creativness. So why are people freaking out when she sticks with what she knows? It worked in Twilight, did it not? Now, the picture of the tree-topped mountain from Twilight was a little “over-the-top” cause we’ve all seen that view a million times not to recognize it as Forks, lol.

Exactly. Isn’t that the point of hiring a director? Because the producers know how they work and how they like to vision things. I like Amanda, so I’ll be seeing this, too ♥

It’s said it was not CH’s idea but Leonardo DiCaprio’s.
Anyway, all I like in this movie is the hood. ) Seriously!

…….uh yeah pretty much.

CH has about five camera angles and that’s it. All her movies look the exact same.

Don’t believe me, go watch Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown. The same camera angles, the same editing, the same backgrounds.

This movie looks better aesthetically. More vibrant colors, and Amanda is beautiful. And I do love the red cape being so bright against the all white background, but the similarities are rather obvious.

Why does someone get hired for a directing job? Because they are qualified, have experience, and are liked for previous work. This film wanted CH to do with it what she did with Twilight. They obviously didn’t WANT something different. Ya know? If they did, I’m sure they would have asked her for it. ☺ Yes, the woman is a little eccentric, but that’s who she is. I don’t need her to change for me, just make a good movie. If Red is like Twilight…then I’ll probably like it ♥

yes yes, CH has got the same moves and camera angles and blah bla…so what? still she managed with this technique to offer us the best of the Twilight movies. look at David Slade and his many skilled techniques, his Eclipse is a mockery compared to 30 days of night or the masterpiece Hard candy.
I’m gonna watch this movie!! it’s CH, it’s twilightish, I’m sure the little details will be there, and the love story will be romantic and passionate, what more can I ask for? gimme me a ticket!

well they were actually doing that a lot in old movies,to show the inner conflict better, so I don’t know if it’s really the new hit thing. and I think it’s original, not like other movies where the heroes just stare at each other the whole time *cough Eclipse*
