Chapter 13: Confessions
“I wanted you to forget my behavior that first day, if possible, so I tried to talk with you like I would with any person. I was eager actually, hoping to decipher some of your thoughts. But you were too interesting, I found myself caught up in your expressions…and every now and then you would stir the air with your hand or your hair, and the scent would stun me again…”
We are at the meadow, where Edward is about to expose why he and his family don’t go out in the sunlight. Also in this chapter this is where we see how the movie is quite backwards from the book. As we go further, you will see what it is that I’m talking about, here goes.
- Pg. 260-262 Edward in the sunlight was shocking. I couldn’t get used to it, though I’d been staring at him all afternoon. His skin, white despite the faint flush from yesterday’s hunting trip, literally sparkled, like thousands of tiny diamonds were embedded in the surface. He lay perfectly still in the grass, his shirt open over his sculpted, incandescent chest, his scintillating arms bare. His glistening, pale lavender lids were shut, though of course he didn’t sleep. A perfect statue, carved in some unknown stone, smooth like marble glittering like crystal. The meadow, so spectacular to me at first, paled next to his magnificence. Chapter 12: Balancing
In this chapter, several things become clear to Bella when it pertains to her relationship with Edward. It’s all about balance and Bella soon realizes that she’d better find a balance…quickly.
- Pg. 238-239 Edward abruptly leaves the Swan driveway upon seeing the Blacks’ roll up in Bella’s driveway. Charlie immediately arrives soon after. The four go inside the house; the dads go into the living room to watch the game while Bella and Jacob go in the kitchen to catch up. “Is something wrong with the truck?” “No.” “Oh. I just wondered because you weren’t driving it.” “I got a ride with a friend.” “Nice ride,” Jacob’s voice was admiring. “I didn’t recognize the driver, though. I thought I knew most of the kids around here.” I nodded noncommittally, keeping my eyes down as I flipped sandwiches. “My dad seemed to know him from somewhere.” “Jacob, could you hand me some plates? They’re in the cupboard over the sink.” “Sure.” He got the plates in silence. I hoped he would let it drop now. “So who was it?” he asked. Sheesh this kid is persistent! I sighed in defeat. “Edward Cullen.” To my surprise, he laughed. I glanced up at him. He looked a little embarrassed. “Guess that explains it then. I wondered why my dad was acting so strange.” “That’s right,” I faked an innocent expression. “He doesn’t like the Cullens.” “Superstitious old man.” Jacob muttered under his breath. “You don’t think he’d say anything to Charlie?” Jacob stared at me for a moment, and I couldn’t read the expression in his dark eyes. “I doubt it,” he finally answered. Chapter 11: Complications
“I was wondering if Edward would be waiting, or if I should meet him at his car. What if his family was there? I felt a wave of real terror. Did they know that I knew? Was I supposed to know that they knew that I knew, or not?”
Wow poor Bella is going crazy! This chapter basically is the ultimate bond fest…ever. Edward Continues to pick up Bella everyday and drive her to school. He questions her relentlessly and Bella finds herself talking nonstop.
- Pg. 218 Everyone watched us as we walked together to our lab table. I noticed that he no longer angled the chair to sit as far from me as the desk would allow. Instead, he sat quite close beside me, our arms almost touching. Oh reeeally now?? Lol. Mr. Banner shoved the tape into the reluctant VCR and walked to the wall to turn off the lights. And then, as the room went black, I was suddenly hyperaware that Edward was sitting less than an inch from me. [click to continue…]

Chapter 10: Interrogations
“It was unusually foggy; the air was almost smoky with it. The mist was ice cold where it clung to the exposed skin on my face and neck…it was such a thick fog that I was a few feet down the driveway before I realized there was a car in it; a silver car. My heart thudded, stuttered, and then picked up again in double time.”
And so did ours! Whenever I saw Edward standing outside the Swan house chilling next to his Volvo I nearly passed out! So its official Edward Cullen is indeed a vampire. And Bella could care less because she loves him unconditionally and irrevocably. With every chapter it is becoming clearer just how much Bella means to Edward as well, as we will see in this 10th chapter.
- Pg. 197 “Do you want to ride with me today?” He was really giving me a choice-I was free to refuse, and part of him hoped for that. “Yes, thank you.” “I brought the jacket for you. I didn’t want you to get sick or something.” “I’m not that delicate,” I said, but I pulled the jacket onto my lap, pushing my arms through the too-long sleeves, curious to see if the scent could possibly be as good as I remembered. Chapter 9: Theory
“I was distracted all weekend, worrying about you…and that possibility tormented me the entire time I was away. It was a very long three days. I really got on Emmett’s nerves.”
After quite the meal, Edward and Bella head to the Volvo while Bella’s head is swirling with questions.
- Pg. 180-181 Bella presses on with her questions. Edward explains that he followed Bella’s scent which was how he was able to locate her, which in my opinion is super creepy, lol. Edward admits that he can read minds by hearing people’s thoughts. He then confesses that he cannot however, hear Bella’s thoughts. “Why do you think you can’t hear me? I asked curiously. He looked at me, his eyes enigmatic. “I don’t know. The only guess I have is that maybe your mind doesn’t work the same way the rest of theirs do. Like your thoughts are on the same AM frequency and I’m only getting FM.” He grinned at me, suddenly amused. “My mind doesn’t work right? I’m a freak?” The words bothered me more than they should-probably because his speculation hit home. I’d always suspected as much, and it embarrassed me to have it confirmed. “I hear voices in my mind and you’re worried that you’re the freak,” he laughed. [click to continue…]
