Dakota Fanning as Jane in New Moon Movie

Finally some official casting info! Summit has sent out an email revealing that Dakota Fanning will indeed be playing the part of Jane in New Moon. The email states:

Acclaimed actress Dakota Fanning has officially joined the cast, and will play fan favorite Jane in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

What do you guys think? Good choice? Bad choice? Sound off!

200903051207.jpgBrenna Lee Roth, daughter of rocker dad David Lee Roth, has apparently been cast in New Moon and offers details in a brand new interview with MarketSaw3D. I have to say that the whole interview confuses me–she talks about New Moon in the past tense, as if some of the filming is already completed. There is no word as to who she will be playing, but here are a few of the details she revealed:

  • “Fans of the series will really love it, it’s spot on to the book. Way closer to the book than I think expected. Chris was a great director he really challenged me.”
  • “All I can say is that, NEW MOON is shot in the middle of nowhere! And fans still find the set and take pictures of every little thing. It’s crazy. The fans were great.”….
  • About the Quileute tribe, she says that “Wardrobe was good. Nailed exactly what I thought of when I was reading the book.”
  • About preparing for the role: “I worked out a lot. [...] I did boxing training, a lot of wire work on set, and I had to learn how to swing a sword while driving a motorcycle, I am pretty sweet at it but I doubt I could use that knowledge in everyday life.”

Swords? On motorcycles? Fans already have pictures? Wha?

UPDATE: As our “Wha?” indicates, be suspicious, be very suspicious. This article is a spoof and has been edited to remove mentions of New Moon–you can totally dismiss it, it is not true and is a marketing ploy for her other film. They even created a doctored photograph of a New Moon script on the same site, which is why we decided to run it:

Dakota Fanning Joan Jett Kristen Stewart It has just been announced that Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart may be working together on the Joan Jett biopic The Runaways, but it won’t be the only film that they share. Variety ’s Michael Fleming includes this line at the end of today’s article concerning The Runaways

Fanning, who most recently starred in “The Secret Life of Bees” and “Push,” and voiced “Coraline,” is also booked to play a vampire in the “Twilight” sequel “New Moon.”

So, unless this is a slip up, I think it’s safe to say Variety has just moved the Dakota-Fanning-as-Jane idea from rumor to fact.

Solomon Trimble Out of New Moon We’ve just been informed that Solomon Trimble will not be returning to the role of Sam in New Moon. Trimble has this to say on his MySpace

My agent heard from Summit Entertainment today that I will not be reprising the role of Sam in “New Moon.” While I will cherish the experience of being involved in the first film, I am looking forward to many new opportunities in the future and would like to thank everyone for their support.

What a shame. We wish all the best for Trimble, as he’s been such a sport about interacting with fans and being a down-to-earth, approachable actor. The question remains–who has replaced him? Is it Bronson Pelletier? [via Team Solomon]

bronson pelletier new moon

We brought you the news that Bronson Pelletier was set to play a role in New Moon, based on a congratulatory note posted on his talent management firm’s website about a week ago. However, the note has dissapeared from the page–yet his name has been added to the confirmed cast of New Moon on the IMDB entry.

We’re not sure what to make of this development–did Carrier Talent Management spill the beans too early and get chastised by Summit into taking the news down? Or is it all a misunderstanding, and Pelletier wasn’t actually cast in New Moon? We won’t know for sure until the official cast list is released, but our money is on Carrier accidentally posting the news in advance.

Billy Burke New Moon People has revealed that Billy Burke, who plays father to Bella in Twilight, is keen on working with Dakota Fanning in New Moon, if she indeed does get the part. While it’s still unconfirmed, it seems that by now half the cast of New Moon has given Fanning the thumbs up.

“I would love to have Dakota Fanning in the movie,” Burke, who plays the character of Charlie Swan in the film, told PEOPLE at the World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational on Saturday.

“She’s one of the most talented young actors that’s come around in ages.”

Burke also has kind words for his screen daughter, Kristen Stewart–

“We get along in this weird ethereal way that I haven’t gotten along with any costar before,” Burke said of Stewart. “She brings something that makes me want to go to work.”

The rumor mill has been on fire with talk of Madonna, Vanessa Hudgens, AnnaLynne McCord, and Dakota Fanning being hired for a coveted spot on the New Moon cast, however there has been no official confirmation of any of them being hired.

It’s great to hear progress is being made, and we hope to bring your more info soon!

200902260935.jpg The following cast summary was taken from Production Weekly, which is a–let’s see if you can guess–weekly production newsletter–and was found by the same TwiMom responsible for the previous Production Weekly post with a summary we hadn’t seen before.

“THE TWILIGHT SAGA’S NEW MOON” Feature Film 02-12-09

VOLTERRA FM PRODUCTIONS CANADA INC.

STATUS – March 23 LOCATION – Vancouver – Italy

PRODUCER: Patrick Wachsberger – Wyck Godfrey WRITER: Melissa Rosenberg DIRECTOR: Chris Weitz LP: Bill Bannerman PM: Barbara Kelly

CAST: Robert Pattinson – Kristen Stewart – Taylor Lautner – Billy Burke – Gil Birmingham – Peter Facinelli -Elizabeth Reaser -Ashley Greene – Jackson Rathbone – Kellan Lutz – Nikki Reed – Dakota Fanning

All is not well between demon-magnet Bella and Edward Cullen, her vampire Romeo. An innocent papercut at Edward’s house puts Bella in grave danger when various members of the Cullen family can barely resist their hunger at the smell of blood. The Cullens promptly leave town, afraid of endangering Edward’s beloved, and Bella sinks into an overwhelming depression. Months later, she finally emerges from her funk to rebuild her life, focusing on her friendship with besotted teen Jacob from the reservation. Bella’s unhealthy enthrallment to Edward leads her into dangerous and self-destructive behavior despite her new friends, and supernatural complications are bound to reappear. Bella’s being hunted by an evil vampire, and Jacob’s adolescent male rage turns out to be incipient lycanthropy: It seems many Quileute Indians become werewolves in the presence of vampires, their natural enemies. (March 23 – May 20 / will shoot in the ancient Tuscan city of Volterra for two weeks in May – Release date Nov. 20, 2009)

Of note is that Dakota Fanning is now listed as in the cast–so she may have officially signed. But, at the same time, it also claims the film will be shooting in Volterra–which as we just reported, is still up in the air.

UPDATE: As I mentioned in the last paragraph, this doesn’t mean Fanning is definitely in, since the information is not consistent with other news we’re hearing. The ever-lovable Twilight Lexicon makes the point even more succinctly

Now here’s the thing were not saying Dakota won’t eventually be cast because that’s honestly our gut impression here based on a number of factors. However, we are not so sure this is 100% official yet:
1. It doesn’t make any sense for this confirmation not to have been picked up by Mark Malkin, Nikki Finke, and several others given that they all had the insider track. The Dakota Fanning story leaked like a sieve. It seems odd that they’d allow themselves to get upstaged by a two-week old production memo that lots of people had access to.
2. The cast list (other than Rob, Kristen, and Taylor who obviously have top billing in that order) are in alphabetical order. Dakota’s name got stuck in at the end. It seems weird that the format would not be consistent especially in Hollywood where name position is everything

200902252100.jpgOne of the best Twilight sites, Twilight Lexicon, has a terrific exclusive interview with Solomon Trimble that they’ve just posted. The whole thing is worth reading–but perhaps most of interest is the news that–

Have you heard any news on your participation in New Moon?

No, I have not been confirmed for New Moon as of 2/25/2009.

Bad news for Team Solomon fans. Trimble seems such a genuine and down-to-earth person in this interview, it’s very odd indeed that that he still doesn’t know whether he’s been cast. Could newcomer Bronson Pelletier be taking his place in New Moon?

200902251552.jpg Ok, you can breathe again. Paris isn’t really going to be in New Moon. But, in light of all the crazy rumors swirling about New Moon–from Madonna to every ex-Disney star out there wanting in on the cast–MTV has a fun article covering all the drama thus far:

Twilighters were up in arms when they heard the rumor that Vanessa Hudgens and Brenda Song were in contention for the role of Leah Clearwater. They all cried, “No Disney stars … EVER!” Vanessa is still hoping to nab the coveted role as Jacob’s fiesty frenemy, but as of now, it looks like neither will be playing the part (hooray!). Twilighters got to breathe easy for about 2.5 seconds until another actor or actress was rumored to be the next Leah, Jane or Aro.

There were some reports that seemed too nutty to be true. If you thought the whole Hudgens/Song rumor was crazy, just brace yourself. Have you heard any of these?

Lindsay Lohan wants to be in “New Moon”! Hilary Duff is clamoring to be a part of the second installment of the “Twilight” saga! “Lord of the Rings” star Sir Ian McKellan as Aro! “Harry Potter” wizard Alan Rickman as a member of the Volturi!

None of the rumors above can beat the mother of all rumors: Madonna is going to be in “New Moon”!

Then MTV gets into the fake New Moon rumor game–inventing some New Moon casting rumors that are just too ridiculous to be true:

  • Mickey Rourke is replacing Billie Burke as Charlie. Why? Because Mickey Rourke is awesome.
  • Earlier this week the news broke that Governor Schwarzenegger was taking time off to do a film. Could this be a cover for a “New Moon” role? TOTALLY.
  • There will be a new character named Stewart, Edward’s long-lost brother. Stewart will have equally awesome hair and will be played by Zac Efron.
  • Brad Pitt’s old man version of Benjamin Button is going to play Aro.
  • Daniel Radcliffe is going to replace Jackson Rathbone as Jasper. He’ll have his wizard stick handy in case Voldemort pops up to kill Edward.

What do you think–can you think of a funny and believable New Moon rumor? Share in the comments!
