Xavier Samuel is now 100% confirmed to play Riley in Eclipse, and he has given his first interview to the Hot30 radio show in Australia. He also shares a few words with the Daily Telegraph on landing the role.

David Slade, who will be directing the sequel to New Moon, Eclipse, has a new interview with Fearnet. He says–

What will differ about Slade’s Twilight? “I don’t really know. We haven’t even started shooting yet.” While the director says he has a basic idea of what he wants to do with it, he is more concerned with telling a good story than being “different.” “It is darker, and there is a lot more action than the previous two,” he admits. “The third book is from Bella’s point of view, but the film will be more objective.” And just how will he do that? “We are going to focus on the origin stories of several characters, like Jasper, and show how Bella will decide between Edward and Jacob.”

Summit is holding an official open casting call for the roles of Seth and Leah Clearwater. Both are important roles for members of the Quileute Indians in Eclipse. To participate, you must fit the general age range and description of the character, and then record your scene using Actorcast software.

Acting411 has some new info on the schedule of Eclipse, including news that rehearsals will begin in August and filming in late September–

Rehearsals are tentatively slated to begin August, 2009 with actual filming starting in late September, 2009. The release date for Eclipse has been announced as Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

Roles Currently Casting:

Leah Clearwater: Female, 19 years of age. Seth’s big sister, and the only female member of La Push wolf pack: “She is tall and slender with beautiful skin and short cropped black hair. She would be considered gorgeous if not for the perpetual scowl she carries due to a broken heart and her anger issues.”

Seth Clearwater: Male, 15-16 years of age is a “tall, gangly-limbed boy with a huge, happy grin, Seth idolizes Jacob.” Black hair, lean muscle type, think swimmer type body.

Riley: Male 19-21. Good looking, blond, clean-cut, muscular college guy who falls victim to Victoria. He’s in his early to mid 20s and Riley was a newborn that was created by Victoria to act as the leader of her recently formed newborn army. He accompanies Victoria in her attempt to murder Bella Swan.

Maria: Female mid-20’s, Hispanic, petite figure, brunette, dark eyes with a soft and musical voice. Maria looks for humans that she could turn to vampires to create a “newborn army”.

Bree: 14-17, beautiful, 5′1″ – 5′3″, short dark hair, fair skin. Has a high pitched shrill scream. She is one of the newborn army who ravaged Seattle, killing many with her fellows under the guise of a serial killer.

Royce King II: Male, late 20’s, out-spoken, comes from wealthy family. He was a human who lived during the time of the Great Depression. He was engaged to Rosalie Hale for a short period of time.

Despite reports that Eclipse will begin filming in August, no exact date is set in stone yet. The filming schedule is “still being drafted” according to Lainey Gossip. Also according to Lainey, the following characters have been added to the casting process–

• Maria-”Maria found Jasper during the Southern vampire wars. At this point, Jasper was a major in the Confederate Army, and Maria was looking for humans that she could turn to vampires to create a newborn army, using the idea pioneered by Benito. After turning Jasper, she found that he was extremely useful to her, because he was able to control the emotions of the vampires around him, and make them work together. In Eclipse, Maria is described as a tiny brunette with a soft and musical voice that has a tendency to be sharp. She was able to control her thirst, though she still preyed humans’ blood. ” [1]
• Bree-”Bree was created by Victoria as part of her newborn vampire army to avenge James’ death. She never saw Victoria, as her “assistant”, Riley, was the one who told the newborns what to do. Bree was described as beautiful and slender with short dark hair to her chin and glowing blood red eyes. She was also very young, around the age of 15 and the height was around 5′1″ and 5′3″. When she screams Bree has a high, shrill voice. [2]
• Royce King–”Royce King II was a human who lived during the time of the Great Depression. He was engaged to Rosalie Hale for a short period of time before being killed by her. He is perceived as being quite out-spoken but is liked by Rosalie because of her vanity.” [3]

Recently New Moon and Eclipse screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg stated that she thought GI Joe hottie Channing Tatum would be perfect for the role of Riley in Eclipse. In the video above from this weekend at the Arclight Hollywood, Channing Tatum give his thoughts on the idea.

New Moon stars Taylor Lautner and Peter Facinelli were spotted in Vancouver–Taylor Lautner looking a bit sleepy, Peter Facinelli at the airport to head out of town to EyeCon in Florida and other obligations. Eclipse Director David Slade was also seen arriving in Vancouver to scout locations and meet with production. Eclipse has begun!

Around the same time Slade came, Peter Facinelli left. We were actually on the same flight to Vegas. Not sure where he was going. I sat across the aisle from him. He was lovely to fans who approached for photos in the terminal and the only other remarkable detail I can give you is that while I was trying to write The Outcast book review, he was givin’er on his iPod, playing some game that required furious tapping and scrolling and shaking. It was distracting and hilarious and adorable, especially when he became extra spastic with the controller.
