t1larg_cougars_twilight_courtesyCNN.com has an awesome new article giving insight on how the Twilight Saga novels, and movies, are not just for teenagers -

They don’t call it “Twi Crack” for nothing.

Lisa Hansen, for example, thought she had lost her mind the first time she read “Twilight.” Partly because she’s 36.

“I was absolutely worried that something was wrong with me,” the Utah mother of two said. “I just couldn’t put it down — I was obsessed completely.”

She picked up the first of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire novels — recommended by a teen neighbor — with few expectations. After devouring it, she couldn’t get the images of doomed love between a vegetarian vampire, Edward, and an awkward teenage girl, Bella, off her mind. Hansen thought about the books so much she seriously wondered if she was experiencing some sort of midlife crisis.

“I thought I was the only woman in the world who was my age and was just obsessed with books,” she said.

In reality, far from it. Hansen is just one of the thousands of women around the world who have gotten caught up in the vampire frenzy.

While they resemble the youthful, squealing “Twilight” fans on occasion — Kellan Lutz, who plays vampire Emmett Cullen in the films, admitted some of the mail he gets from older fans makes him blush — they’re still not the typical fan girls.

For starters, being so in love with “Twilight” when you’re “of a certain age” can come with a healthy dose of shame.

“The stigma of it being a teenager’s book was the biggest issue,” Hansen said. “Everyone felt the same way I did, like, ‘What’s wrong with me? Why am I obsessing over this teenager thing?’ ”

But, one by one, the women began to find each other online, relieved that they weren’t the only ones.

“As grown women we know that we never forget our first love, the first time our heart was really broken,” Hansen explained of the often indescribable pull of Meyer’s work. “I just think that so many women can kind of identify with the experiences and emotions and underlying message of how difficult it is to make choices in life.”

Since so many of “Twilight” fan sites were overrun with teenagers, adult women have erected their own digital havens for fans who could take only so much of the “OMG Edward’s so hot!!!” reaction to “Twilight.” There’s Hansen’s Twilight Moms Web site, which she started for married women and mothers who want to revel in their “Twilight” fandom, and sites like 49-year-old Patricia Kopicki’s, which is for any adult “Twilight” fan, parent or not.

Both of them say they get steady streams of messages from women thanking them for helping them come out of their “Twilight” closet.

“Many of us [fans] are happily married with kids, some as old as the male leads in ‘Twilight.’ Some of them jokingly refer to themselves as ‘cougars’ because of this, but it’s used as a humorous way of saying we realize we are old enough to be Robert Pattinson’s mother [and] we still find him attractive,” Kopicki said.

I’m glad that CNN touched base on this subject. And it comes with great timing after hearing about some nasty signs that snot nosed teenage girls had at the premiere last night about TwiMoms. They are soooo lucky LMC wasn’t there …

You can check out the rest of the article here! They also touch base on the whole fan fiction genre :D

[Thanks, Jill!]

KatieTokyo

A NewMoonMovie.org fan Katie Dirga sent a link through to her blog where she wrote about her experience at the Tokyo Fan Event…..

Chris introduced himself and said hi and promised to keep it short.  Rob asked, “Genki?” and that means “How are you?” A lot of girls in the audience responded with “Genki desu,” which means “I’m good.”

They immediately moved into the question & answer period but only had time for two questions. A little disappointing, but this was scheduled for an hour. The first question was about their favorite thing to film in “New Moon.” Rob’s answer was “Anything with the Volvo in it,” and Chris’ answer was “Anything with Rob in it.” –See video #2-

Some lucky fans got to spend Halloween with the New Moon castat Harrah’s in Atlantic City Halloween night with Alex Meraz (aka Paul) Chaske Spencer (aka Sam) and Edi Gathegi (aka Laurent).

All the guys look exceptionally gorgeous but none were in costumes….come on guys it was Halloween!   Guests had the option to hire cabanas and hot tubs…..I know who I would have had in my cabana and he wouldn’t have left all night…maybe that’s why they weren’t wearing any costumes as they would have just had to have taken them off!

Check out the rest of the pics here!

Here is what JIMH had to say:

I Love Wolves, RIMR_, WolfPackChick, and JacobIsMyHeroin (me!) met up from all corners of the country to attend Twi Con in Chicago last weekend.  We are all avid NMM.org and EM.org fans, this is where we all first met and became friends!  None of us had ever met anyone from the site in real life before, but we took a chance and decided to go on this crazy adventure together.  It turned out so great; we had an amazing weekend and wanted to share our experience with everyone.

MsMS RPattzMany of you have probably already heard Ms.MS’s story. For those of you who have not – EdwardCullen.net received a letter from a very ill fan who wanted to thank Robert Pattinson for signing her copy of New Moon. She was unable to meet Rob (due to health reasons) and  a lady from Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital had the book signed for Ms.MS while Rob was in New York Filming Remember Me.

Here is the letter Ms.MS wants to get to Rob -

Dear Rob,

I recently received the signed New Moon book that you autographed for me in NYC while you were filming Remember Me. The wonderful ladies at the Morgan Stanley Childrens Hospital Fund especially Ms Chris and one of her friends spent alot of their own personal time and effort in getting this for me after contacting Ms C from Remember Me. I will always be truly grateful to them for this gift.

I can’t thank you enough for taking the time out of your busy life and schedule to sign this for me. It means more to me than you will ever truly know.

I am not sure how much you were told of me, but my name is Ms. MS and I am nearly 24 years old. I have a very rare lung disorder that causes my lungs to collapse at times witout any notice, and from the damage done to my lungs it has left me on oxygen nearly 24 hours a day. I can only take it off about 1 hour a day and a large percentage of my time is spent in a wheelchair as I can only walk short distances. They tell me my only other option is a lung transplant, scary right? This is a decision that I will have to make at some point but they tell me it will only give me an extra 5 – 7 years and well I just dont know. Anyway these are the breaks that life sometimes gives you.

You see I was lucky enough to win the Morgan Stanley Childrens Hospital raffle. They have looked after me since I was 16 years old which is when I first got sick. Anyway, one of the prizes I won was based around your favorite film and movie stars.

My wish was to try and either meet some of the Twilight stars especially you or go to one of your movie premieres.

Ms Chris from Morgan Stanley was trying to organize for me to come and meet you on the set of Remember Me in NYC this summer. I live in VB, but due to the timing, having to get everything worked out and the time to get clearance from your producers it was not meant to be.

I still am most grateful for the signed book from you. I will forever cherish your kind words as it gave some hope and that maybe one day things will work out for me too.

I also wanted to tell you that Peter Facinelli (Dr Carlisle from the Twilight series ) was at my local mall here in VB a few weeks ago as part of a Red Cross Blood Drive. How lucky was that right?

I got all dressed up made an effort and got my best friend to take me down to the mall wheelchair/oxygen and all . I waited for a few hours in order to see him and what a nice person he is even though he had been signing autographs for hours.

I had the pleasure of meeting him, taking a photo with him, and getting his autograph. I took my oxygen off and walked up to take the photo and I was shaking from my nerves I am sure he wondered what was wrong with me? :) .

I wanted to give him this letter and ask him to give it to you but I felt a little embarrassed and he was very busy. There were hundreds and hundreds of people lined up waiting to meet him.

I love how you both are so dedicated to your work and your fans. I have attached a picture of the book you signed for me in the summer and also the picture of Peter so you know that this letter is really the truth.

I would appreciate if you could acknowledge that you received this if by chance it actually gets to you .

You seem like such a nice person and I wish you all the best in life.
Again I can’t say thank you enough.

With Love,
Ms. MS

In case you are wondering – she is referred to as Ms.MS for privacy reasons.

After tons of tweets, and work by many fan sites, finally Peter Facinelli was reached and he responded to everyone’s request in helping Ms.MS. Check out a tweet from Peter Facinelli stating that he will make sure Rob gets the letter – after the break!

Bean and DanielPhoenix -Group Shot1TSH and Charlie B8521_144221210862_585575862_3165934_4120978_n

NewMoonMovie.org reader TeamSpaceHeaters has given us an awesome write up of her experience during the Birmingham Twilight Prom, held over this past weekend. She attended the event with fellow NMM.org readers: Phoenix and Bean (yes Bean, LMC still loves you!)!

Here is what TSH had to say -

This was a continuation of the event in London as the cast Charlie Bewley, Daniel Cudmore and Jose Zuniga had previously help a prom in London on the Friday night before doing a talk/pictures etc on the Saturday before coming up to Birmingham – the second biggest city in England and having another prom here and doing the talk pictures on the Sunday.

One of our fellow nmmer’s Phoenix won the prom dance with Daniel Cudmore you can see the video here:

Check out the rest of their awesome experience after the break!

Lucky NewMoonMovie.org reader, JacobIsMyHerion, had the amazing opportunity to meet New Moon Stars – Alex Meraz, Cameron Bright, and Christopher Heyerdahl at Chicago Comic Con, this past weekend. She gives a detailed account of her experience to NMM.org -

I got to go to Comic Con in Chicago on Saturday, and wanted to share with NMM.org!

I was lucky enough to get to go to the Twilight panel, and even had a 4th row seat! Alex Meraz, Christopher Heyerdahl and Cameron Bright talked about their experiences making New Moon, and answered questions from the audience. Alex was extremely thoughtful and thorough with his answers. Christopher was intelligent and very witty, he had an especially funny moment talking about himself and Jamie Bower goofing around between takes. Cameron was funny too, he got quite exasperated when someone asked if Rob really smelled bad.

I’m somewhat speechless, a bit wigged out. She really shows great dedication …

But seriously  ..  if you’re gonna go all out with body paint – at least pick a team! sheesh.

Team Jacob vs. Team Edward

Some fans of Edward Cullen gave New Orleans writer Brianna Prevost a piece of their mind recently during Brianna’s trip to see Twilight. And it was all because she was wearing a Team Jacob shirt–

A group of women in front of me keep turning around and sniffing me saying things like, “God, what’s that smell, it smells awful around here,” referring to Edward and the rest of his vampire clan’s sensitive aversion to the smell of werewolves.

One older woman tried not to let me back in the theatre when I left to get the rest of my friends, and one very disgusted teenager turned to look at me, rolled her eyes and said, “Team Jacob, really? Yeah right,” as she popped her bubblegum and twirled her hair back to her seat.
