Eagle Pictures, the distributors of New Moon in Italy, have just sent out a press release confirming a lot of what we know about the filming schedule and details in Montepulciano. Here’s an English translation of the original–
In a few days to complete the cast arrives in Italy to turn Montepulciano two chapters in the book NEW MOON, second episode of the Twilight saga, is set in Volterra. The course will be set blindatissimo.

On May 30 there will be in Montepulciano a gathering of all the Italian twilighters, expected more than 5,000 girls. Many are from ‘broad there are those who come even from Japan. There is no longer a free hotel within a radius of 20 km.
Meanwhile, the historic center of Montepulciano is preparing to receive the set.
L ‘Androne Hall Michelozzo attributed to the great Florentine Renaissance architect, and the famous cloister were painted dark red, under the attentive eyes of the technicians and the’ administration. For weeks the girls will file photograph in front of the ‘hall.
Piazza Grande was just the fountain described in the book, it is 7 meters long and made of wood and paper.
The faux St. Marcus Day Festival in New Moon, which will involve up to 1500 extras, has begun to ramp up. Extras in red garb have started appearing on the streets, as recent pics from TwilightersItalia show. They say–
Each one of them was clad in red. Hoods, robes, t-shirt, caps…everything was red! They couldn’t really say anyhing because the producers have told them that if they were caught they would be expelled from the set and nobody wants to lose the chance to be in the movie.
It’s said that this afternoon there was a little commotion and they think Robert Pattinson was there, but nobody would say that plainly. There are no pictures of him at the airport because he went out through a side exit allowed to the airport staff only.
Today the porsche crew finished working and, from what we understood, tomorrow Robert Pattinson himself will shoot some scene, maybe something related to Edward’s desperation before the Volturi’s verdict.
It won’t be Kristen Stewart to jump in the fountain but her stunt double, an Italian girl. Right now, Alan Cappelli, the stunt double for Robert Pattinson is waiting in his car to be called to set. We don’t know though what scene they’ll shoot.
According to the fine folks over at TwilightersItalia, Robert Pattinson arrived in Rome at the Fiumicino Airport on his way to Montepulciano at 12:30pm local time, which works out to 6:30am EST. He’s already made his way to Tuscany.
In other news from Montepulciano, the new fountain was given a trial run with water to prep for shooting the film. TwilightersItalia says–
Also today, they’re shooting in the centre of the city, our friends told us that the Porsche was actually there this morning. With a bit of luck we’ll have some pictures to share of that too later.
The Italian shoot is really starting to ramp up! Anyone else as excited as me?
The fountain being erected in the main square of Montepulciano, Italy for New Moon is coming along at a rapid clip. Recent pictures indicate that it looks nearly complete. In addition the pictured thrones may be props to be used by the Volturi in the movie.
Entertainment Tonight, who were the first to gain exclusive access to the Vancouver New Moon set, have just revealed that they’ll be doing another similar project in Italy! Thea Andrews from ET revealed this news in the pictured Tweet. Hopefully we’ll see thorough coverage this time!
The clocktower/city hall in Montepulciano, Italy was outfitted with a stunning array of red flags and banners today in prepration for the New Moon filming which will begin there very shortly. These join the ones spotted off the main square we told you about yesterday. TwilightersItalia says–
They’re preparing for Saint Marcus day! Today a pickup loaded with red flags and ensigns was spotted in the main square, Piazza Grande. A few hours later all over the front of the cityhall there were those flags pinned. Meanwhile the fountain is now almost finished and today it was painted with waterproof so now it seems a little more whitish!
The yellow Porsche that Alice will drive in New Moon has been discovered in Montepulciano, Italy! Ale at TwilightersItalia sends in this report–
The big man you can see in some pictures is one of the stuntmen. He had an Alice wig, a bandana, a couple of elbow high red gloves, and seemingly from far he actually looked like our loved little vampire/pixie.
Mauro secretly told us that there are two yellow porsche in Montepulciano, placed in different places of the town. As they were not exactly identical, one had yellow brake pad cover and another had them red, Production was willing to spend to the incredible amount of €5800 PER PIECE to have them all red!!!
Luckily they found out a way to paint them, but this episode says a lot on how high is this movie’s budget!!!
The helicopter we told you about ealier, has kept low-flying whole day long filming aerial of the main square.. The fountain is not finished yet, so probably this was a rehearsal or shooting for the DVD’s extra-contents .
Red flags and banners have begun to spring up all around Montepulciano in preparation for the scenes that will be filmed for New Moon soon in the Italian city. A giant fountain is being constructed in front of the fateful clock tower as well. As for the red flags and banners, YuN from Italy says–
The red flags are because of the old district that is going to be used in the Piazza Grande shot. The production chose some of the districts in Montepulciano with red colors, the ones mainly used during the celebration.
In particular they chose the Voltaia district, asking them to participate as extras to the movie, in the mob, to show the feeling of an organized carnival, with flags and costumes really existing.

Essentially, in this article we say that yesterday, the Mayor of Montepulciano was in the town square (where the fountain is being built) in person and it seems like they were working on security.
The most interesting (and strange) fact is that our friend found a lot of road signs around town saying that some streets will be closed on friday, May 22nd, from 6:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.
Does this mean filming will start a bit early, before the supposed May 25th date?
A street merchant in Montepulciano, Italy is joining in on the New Moon craze that’s due to hit the city with filming set to commence soon in the Italian town. The vendor is selling bars of unofficial New Moon soap for tourists eager to bring home a memento. Anyone care to guess what it smells like?
