Marcus

FILM New Moon HeyerdahlHe may bore you, and possibly make you yawn, or perhaps make you feel as if  you are in a zombie like state.  Call it what you will, but Christopher Heyerdahl aka Marcus of the Volturi is the real deal, and he’s paid the cost to be the boss.  Even though Aro seems to be large and in charge, it’s really Marcus who calls the shots.  Underneath the somber and half dead exterior, lies a magnificent leader of the Volturi coven.

I am more than intrigued and fascinated with Marcus.  I really don’t know why, but something about this character draws me in.  From his storyline, to his creepy voice, to his blatant uninterest in anything Aro or anyone else has to say, Marcus and his saddened state makes you see him more as a human being, rather than a blood lusting vampire.  There’s somthing about the vacancy in his eyes that makes you want to find out more.  For those who haven’t seen New Moon yet, take a special notice of Marcus during the Volturi scene, he doesn’t even face Edward & Bella, he simply stares off to the side into outer space the entire time.  The man has some serious issues!  Besides Edward’s character, Marcus is by far my absolute favorite in the entire series.  I came across this article from last week, and figured I would share it with you all, hey any New Moon news is good news!

What are some of the more memorable fan encounters you’ve seen working on New Moon?

(Laugh) There was a girl in Chicago. I did an appearance in Chicago and there was a young girl there, it was very sweet. Literally every time she saw one of us she couldn’t speak. She’d sit there with this smile on her face and you’d see slowly she’d start to tremble, and then she would start to giggle, and then she would start to jump up and down, and she just giggled and jumped. That’s all she did.

She was about 15. She was a very, very sweet young girl. It was very funny. She could not speak. Cameron Bright [who plays Alec, another member of the Volturi] was there, and she’d just go ‘He’s s-o-o-o c-u-u-ute.’

So she wasn’t totally mute, then.

Well, she could only say something about someone who wasn’t there. If she was in their presence, I’d be like, ‘He’s right there, go talk to him, he’s a nice guy.’ ‘Oh no, he’s so c-u-u-ute.’ So it’s very sweet, very sweet.

I read you took the part because you know someone who’s a big fan, your niece. Is that true?

Yesss. She’s a big fan.

What was her reaction when she learned you’d be playing Marcus?

She was pretty excited, but she basically said, ‘Well, OK, but I don’t like Marcus.’

And I said, ‘Well, why don’t you like Marcus?’

‘He’s evil.’

I say, ‘What do you mean he’s evil? [*Total Twilightseries spoiler!*] He saves Bella, he saves Renesmee, what’s the deal? He comes in and he saves the day all the time.’

She pauses, then says, ‘Well, he eats people.’

(Laugh) So there you go, you have to be a vegetarian to get the thumbs up from my niece.

From different articles I’ve read, it seems Christopher is extremely close with his niece, and she was the first person he called when he was offered the role of “Marcus”…cute.  Check out the full interview at the Calgary Herald

volturiIn another new interview with New Moon-er Jamie Campbell Bower, gives the deets to MTV.com – There is a scene in the upcoming Twilight Saga – New Moon, in which the 3 Volturi Leaders are naked -

“We just all sit there, completely naked, for one scene,” revealed “New Moon” actor Jamie Campbell Bower, talking about a racy moment that was added into the upcoming film. “Yeah, it’s me, Michael Sheen and Christopher [Heyerdahl]; we just sit there, naked.”

“We’re just chilling out, just watching the game and having a Bud,” Bower laughed of the scene, which depicts Carlisle hanging with the Volturi back in the day. “No, that doesn’t sound right. I’m so British. I can’t say that stuff.”

In actuality, the scene has a fully clothed Carlisle visiting the Volturi in Italy, only to locate Aro, Caius and Marcus in a bathhouse. “It’s a full-body shot, and then Peter comes in, and it all gets a bit awkward,” Bower said. “[Carlisle] is clothed completely. They’re bathing in sort of a Roman bath kind of thing.”

You can read the rest of the revealing interview over at MTV.com.

Christopher Heyerdahl New Moon marcus Christopher Heyerdahl will play Marcus of the Volturi in New Moon. There’s a new interview where Christopher reveals some details on his role–

Heyerdahl—who has worn extensive makeup and prosthetics for some of his roles —said that the makeup required in New Moon to transform him into one of the undead was easy by comparison.

“Yeah, they do their best to suck the life out of you, but certainly nothing compared to any of those past prosthetics,” Heyerdahl said. “From that perspective, it was pretty easy. The looks they are getting in this film are absolutely fantastic. Everyone looks gorgeous and deliciously lifeless.”

He also notes of director Chris Weitz–

“Director Chris Weitz’s version for this piece is like a Renaissance painting. The images were absolutely beautiful, and the character is such a tragic old fellow.”

Check out the rest of the interesting interview at SciFiWire where he talks about how he decided to interpret the character Marcus, and why he chose the role.
