New Moon News

The Twilight Saga, has ruled everything in 2009, and that includes Facebook.

According to Tech Blorge, The Twilight Saga: New Moonwas the most talked about movie on Facebook user status updates.

Facebook has really gained some ground in the world of social networking this year – especially with relation to Twilight. Right now, the Official Twilight Facebook fan page boasts a meager (heh) four and a half million members

4.5 Million members?  Yowza!  I know I’m guilty of posting link after countless Twilight related links on my Facebook page lol.

Be sure to join our own Facebook pages as well!:

Gosh I love this photo.  The infamous scene when Jacob Black & the wolf pack chase Victoria off of a cliff. I remember sitting in the theater and watching this scene play out and being amazed at just how real the Jacob-wolf looked, especially when a gust of wind comes by and his fur is actually blowing in the wind, spectacular.  For those of you for whatever reason still haven’t seen The Twilight Saga: New Moon, you are in for an in-depth look into the CGI process.

The challenge wasn’t just to build a believable wolf, but to build five unique wolves of extraordinary size and weight, to portray that mass often with little more than the surrounding trees as comparisons, create believable fur and humanesque eyes that weren’t distracting. Nate Fredenburg, Art Director, helped to make sure those requirements were fulfilled, combining real-world attributes and CG magic.
“At Tippett Studio, we always look to real-life creatures for reference on how to design our characters, real or mythical. For New Moon, we had a special opportunity to travel down to wolf sanctuary in Southern California to observe wolves up close and personal. The key to looking at live reference is to form a knowledge base, study the creatures, their quirks and behaviors, the language between the pack. We looked for signs of what the creature was about and added those to the visual effects to make them believable.”

One of the first things that caught my eye even in the previews, was that how real these wolves looked.  We’ve all seen bad computerized images in a movie, but these were dead on.  They looked very believable and it rocked!  Tippet Studio is boss in my book, and I cannot wait to see more of their work on the big screen.

new moon coverAs previously reported, a 22 year-old Chicago woman was recently arrested at a local movie theater for allegedly pirating the movie the Twilight Saga: New Moon.  Well the charges have since been dropped on the young lady.

She had about three minutes of “New Moon” on her digital camera. Tumpach has said she was taping her sister’s birthday party and wasn’t trying to record the movie.

The film’s director, Chris Weitz, came to Tumpach’s defense. He told the Chicago Sun-Times there’s a difference between trying to protect a copyright and prosecuting someone who didn’t mean to commit video piracy.

The 22 year old initially was charged with illegally recording the film, and was set to be charged with a felony for her actions.  As of today, the charges are now officially dropped.

chris_weitzTo pirate or not to pirate?  Well, the Twilight Saga:New Moon director Chris Weitz, thinks that may not be the case. 22 year-old Samantha Tumpach from Chicago, was busted allegedly attempting to record the Twilight Saga: New Moon, but the movie’s director Chris Weitz feels the woman is being unfairly accused.

“Needless to say, the case seems to me terribly unfair and I would like to do what I can to address this,” Weitz wrote in an e-mail.

“It was never my intention to record the movie,” Tumpach said. “You can hear me talking the whole time.”

Weitz questioned whether her arrest was justified.

“There is, needless to say, a difference between trying to protect the copyright of a film and making an unfair example of someone who clearly seems not to have any intentions towards video piracy,” Weitz wrote.

He said he had contacted the studio that released the film, Summit Entertainment, to express his concern about her arrest, but he acknowledged there’s probably little he can do to influence the outcome of her case.

“I am not sure what effect I would have on the case,” he wrote, noting “the film is, after all, not my property.”

Chris Weitz, is such a stand up guy, to come to this woman’s defense. Apparently the woman had three minutes of video which included previews, a lot of laughing, talking and a few clips from the beginning of the actual movie, but she insists it was a surprise birthday gift for her sister’s upcoming birthday…well I guess the wolf’s out of the bag!  (I just had to say that.)

So honestly guys, whats your opinion on this?  Bootlegs are the worse in my opinion.  When I first heard the story, I was all gung ho to have her spend forever behind bars, but now after gathering all the info, they really need to take into consideration the fact that there was talking and singing all through the video, obviously she’s not about to put it up for sale.  I don’t know anyone that would want to purchase that.  To read the very interesting article check out SunTimes.

nm poster! A phenominon, I think yes.  Are you even surprised?

I am, but only that it took this long lol, but we did it!  Our beloved Twilight Saga: New Moon has grossed $200 million dollars, and even more than that internationally.

In its eighth day of release, Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” crossed the double-century mark making an estimated $206.1 million. The domestic B.O. for “New Moon” easily eclipsed that of the first “Twilight” which amassed $192.8 million in 20 weeks.

In the first three days of the holiday frame beginning Wednesday, “New Moon” has grossed $41.4 million

We all so forkin’ rock!  I know I surely contributed to that $200 million dollars, since I saw the movie 4 times so far, and no I’m not ashamed about it.

So do you all think that New Moon will continue to break all kinds of records?  Also, how many times have you gone to take in The Twilight Saga: New Moon?

new-moon-pattinson_lEntertainment Weekly interviewed New Moon costume designer Tish Monaghan.  Tish talked about Edward’s suit to Jacob’s jorts.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Anyone who’s listened to the Twilight DVD commentary knows that Robert Pattinson wasn’t a fan of Edward’s pea coat.
TISH MONAGHAN: He wasn’t a fan of the pea coat. He wore it in virtually every scene, and I think maybe he just got tired of it. I’m guessing. [Laughs] He just wanted a more mature look. That was part of Edward’s Grade 11 year, and now he’s getting into his graduation year, he’s in a relationship. He had worn hoodies and jeans and sneakers, and Robert, the director [Chris Weitz], and I all wanted to portray him more as a gentleman, more elegant and classic. With our vampire characters, I always went back to the time period in which they were turned to see if there’s any element I could try to simulate in contemporary clothing. He came out of the Edwardian period, around 1910. Of course, most of the gentleman from that time would be wearing suits, coats, hats, etc. We had to pick something that was iconic for the character that would suffice to be used throughout the whole film. At the very beginning of the film, he has one school outfit, and then there’s Bella’s birthday party and disaster strikes. So Edward ends up in that same costume for the remainder of the film. I was thinking of just putting him in a dress shirt and a pair of pants, but Robert wanted to be in a suit.

So I found a modern contemporary look that would be appealing to him and to the massive fan base, a very slim cut, and a fabric that to me was a bit Old World — this beautiful tweed fabric that we got out of England. It had the gray base, which is kind of essential for the Cullen characters in their cool tones, but also had little interesting flecks of blue, which is also Cullen, and a tiny little bit of rust, which I liked because Bella wears earth tones and that kinda linked her into the picture. The general texture of the suit would hold up well no matter what setting he was in: Inside the house for the party, or in the forest, or in the Volturi chamber. We had to show wear on the suit, and it’s much easier to rough up something that has texture to it than just a flat piece of wool. His pants are worn at the knees, they’re rumpled.

I don’t know if anyone’s looking at his pants when he removes his shirt in Italy.
The fans were very excited to see that, I don’t know if Robert was particularly excited to perform that in front of 1,500 people. I think it was quite hard for him to do. We originally tested Edward in a plain white shirt, as a forlorn-looking option. That is also what Robert wanted — he wanted something that would wash him out. But you need to have a color that makes you pop, and so we actually dyed the fabric this beautiful ink blue ourselves. It highlighted his vampire white skin really well. I think it’s a great moment when we see him in these clothes that he’s worn from September to May. When he goes to sacrifice himself, he’s in disrepair. Robert and Chris wanted his shirt to have a rip across the chest, so that’s what we gave him. It’s really kind of tragic to watch him take off his shirt, because he really is sacrificing himself. It looks like he’s just giving up. He’s exposing himself and he’s completely vulnerable, and he just takes his shirt off and he drops it at his feet with his eyes downcast. Then he gets attacked by Bella, who shoves him inside the doors. [Laughs] I don’t find it like a beefcake moment. It really is a moving moment, and I think Robert did a really amazing job for that scene.

The tear across the chest was to symbolize that his heart was torn out when he thought he lost Bella?
Maybe. [Laughs] They just said, “Rip it across the chest.” I said, “Are you sure? No shirt’s gonna rip like this.” And they said, “Yes.” So I did it.

Why couldn’t he remain shirtless for the indoor fight scene? Why put on the robe?
Originally, the guards who grab him were supposed to be coming from the outside — that’s why they give him the robe. But the setting was changed, and they grab him on the inside. So why do they hand him this robe? Because, quite honestly, it looks very cool fighting with this long, flowing garment, and it does hide pads, protect him.

More after the break!
