200909291854.jpgChris Weitz and Taylor Lautner are in the November issue of Empire and explain why New Moon is more ‘harder-edged and more man-friendly’

You’ve got the werewolves coming in,” said Weitz, “and the effects are going to be great on that part of the movie. Also, there’s more fighting and that should appeal to the boys. There is also a male character, Jacob, who is inherently a more viable character for most boys because he’s like an ordinary guy. He works on cars, whereas Edward is a perfect man, and maybe he only appeals to perfect men. That makes the demographic rather small! So there’s more of a way into this one – we do hope to up the male demographic!”

Lautner, who’s put on a huge amount of muscle to bulk up for the role, said of his role, ”In Twlight, Jacob is this happy-go-lucky kid, but in New Moon when he shapeshifts into his wolf self, he becomes a totally different person. It was almost a split personality in the same movie and sometimes even in the same day.”

More of the interview can be found in the latest copy Empire.

New-Moon-Poster-new-moon-6473720-800-1168OK, so maybe “extended” was the understatement of the YEAR! According to many reports there will be 20 (yes – Twenty!) minutes of New Moon shown at the Rome International Film Festival.

There have been no details released: Time, Date, Tickets, all unknown! Nothing has been officially announced. The festival is set to begin on October 15th.

newmoon050509The Twilight Examiner (aka Amanda Bell) has an interesting article in regards to the New Moon premiere date and the Eclipse release date -

On November 16th, the stars of The Twilight Saga: New Moon will line up in Los Angeles for the official premiere of the film.

The heavens, it seems, will also be lining up on that date as well. One Twitterer made an interesting connection between the date of New Moon’s offiical premiere and the lunar calendar.

November 16th will also be the date of a legitimate new moon according to the lunar phase calendar.

Clever? Methinks so.

Moving right along, it seems that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse could be subject to a similar coincidence. The Twitterer’s research proves correct in that on June 26th (four days before the release of Eclipse), a partial lunar eclipse will occur (with the next eclipse, a total eclipse, not due until December 21, 2010). If, like with New Moon’s premiere, Eclipse’s premiere takes place four days before the film’s release, Eclipse will premiere during an eclipse, and New Moon will have premiered during a new moon.

Ahhh .. I tend to agree – clever marketing indeed!

E! News Now ran a segment last night talking about New Moon, and Stephenie Meyer. During the Breaking Dawn concert series. Stephenie had Blue October there as guest performers.

She stated that Blue October’s  song ‘Hate Me’ was the song that was in her head while she was writing the part when Edward leaves Bella.

You can check out the lyrics for that song here.

MTV has a new interview with New Moon directer Chris Weitz. In the interview they discuss how great of a job Dakota Fanning has done portraying the Volturi’s Jane. They also discuss Taylor Lautner’s dedication this character, Jacob Black -

MTV: We all remember that there was a lot of drama around whether Taylor would return for “New Moon.” How close did he come to not being asked back?

Weitz: When I first met with him, I took off my shirt and I said, “You’ve got two months to look this good.” And he said, “I’m willing to try that.” Finally, he came back, and the results were just about as good as my abs. [Laughs.]

MTV: You must have a real six-pack.

Weitz: To answer your question seriously, the character in the second book is meant to be 6-foot-5, let alone transform into a werewolf and all that stuff. And Taylor, having only done three days of work in the first [movie], it was time to take a pause and say, “Should Taylor go ahead and do it?” My overwhelming feeling was, “Yes, absolutely, let’s go forward with it.” To me, it wasn’t a very difficult decision. For Taylor, it wasn’t difficult at all. He knew the character, and he embodied the character — as people are going to see in the movie. So it wasn’t really as tense and as scary a moment as it was portrayed in the media.

MTV: What can you tell us about Dakota Fanning’s performance as the evil vampire Jane?

Weitz: Well, it’s the scariest performance probably you’ve seen out of her so far, because she’s evil for once in her career. I think she really appreciated the chance to do that.

MTV: Yeah, she must turn that “adorable Dakota Fanning” thing on its ear.

Weitz: Absolutely. But what you expect from Dakota Fanning is uncannily grown-up, experienced and clever acting — and that’s what she did. I think she was just keen to do this part and to be part of the franchise, and she is genuinely scary.

If you are not able to watch the video above. You can read the rest of it here.
