If you are unfamiliar as to who The Used is, or haven’t heard of them before. They are an American alternative Rock Band from Orem, Utah. The band formed in 2001, and had their first big break in 2002.

Any The Used fans out there? Any of their songs you think should be on the soundtrack? Thoughts?

200907250650.jpgA few new details on the New Moon soundtrack have emerged from the halls of Comic-Con in San Diego over the last couple of days–

  • New Moon director Chris Weitz tells HitFix there will be a track by Bon Iver (pictured) in the film–”I selfishly want to put songs in by artists I love. And some the cast and crew also happen to love,” says Weitz. “I think [Bon Iver] is fantastic. He says he wrote it for the film, but who ever knows if it might just be something laying around in his cupboard”
  • Chris Weitz re-confirms that Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has a new song for the soundrack , and he listened to it for the first time yesterday. “Unless it’s sounds of him belching, I think I’ll put it in” Weitz said.
  • The soundtrack will be released on October 13, 2009.

Amazon has the New Moon soundtrack for pre-order now.

Muse New Moon Soundtrack New Moon Director Chris Weitz has a new interview with the LA Times where he details, among other things, some of the bands we’ll see on the New Moon soundtrack–including a repeat performance from Muse and newcomers to the Twilight universe Radiohead and Band of Skulls.

Driving home from a day of post-production, Weitz says he understands what’s at stake. There are 450 visual effects shots to complete, in addition to the score and the movie’s soundtrack, which he says will feature songs from Radiohead, Muse and Band of Skulls, among others. But the sequences he’s readying for the event — one, an action scene that will feature some of those effects, the other, a love scene sure to elicit hysteria from the crowd — will be done in time.

200907171718.jpg Will Radiohead mastermind Thom Yorke contribute a track to the New Moon soundtrack? It’s still undetermined, but the earlier interview with Chris Weitz revealed this possibility, and it bears repeating with its own post. Chris Weitz said–

Fortunately, I’m not at the stage where I have to turn anybody down yet, because everything is still kind of up in the air, but I am surprised at some of the bands that have said they’re interested. It’s kind of great. The criterion will still always be what’s right for the movie at that given moment, but Thom Yorke is interested. We might, if we’re very lucky, get Kings of Leon to do something… It’s exciting to be able to have access to this kind of talent

New Moon Score

How’s this for an odd one? Someone has composed an entire unofficial orchestral score for New Moon, replete with tracks like “Riding on Motorcycles with Werewolves”, “Cliff Diving” and “The Volturi”.

From the audio previews, it sounds like it’s actually a pretty decent, accomplished piece.

Listen for yourself at Midnight Sun (Twilight Inspired Artist) - Twilight Saga's New Moon (The Unofficial Score).

UPDATE: It’s also available for cheaper ($7) at Amazon.com

200906122027.jpg A fan asked the “Oracle” at the official Coldplay site whether “The Scientist” by Coldplay would be featured on New Moon, as indicated in Stephenie Meyer’s New Moon soundtrack playlist. Though the official “Oracle” didn’t commit to that specific song, it did note today that–

It’s very likely that a Coldplay song will end up on the soundtrack to the Twilight sequel given that Stephenie Meyer has credited Coldplay, amongst others, on the inner sleeve for “being instrumental in staving off the writer’s block”.

Kelly Clarkson is a big Twilight fan, and she talks about her love for the series as well as a song called “Empty as I Am” that she wrote on a whim inspired by New Moon. No word on if it will be in the movie or not, but Kelly has previously blogged about reading the books.

Paramore new moon twilight

In news sure to disappoint fans of the Twilight soundtrack, Paramore has told Billboard that they don’t think they’re interested in appearing on the New Moon soundtrack. According to Paramore drummer Zac Farro,

Speaking to Billboard, the 18-year-old who celebrates his 19th birthday tomorrow, revealed: “It was really fun to be a part of that, and great exposure, but I think Twilight was it for us. We don’t want to seem like we’re trying to get in every single movie they put out.” He adds: “We don’t want to be, like, the vampire house band.”

Paramore was up for an MTV Movie Award this weekend for the song “Decode” from the Twilight soundtrack, but they lost out to Miley Cyrus and her Hannah Montana movie.

Justin Guarini New Moon American Idol Justin Guarini, who was previously on American Idol, is yet another of the numerous musical acts hoping to get a slice of the New Moon soundtrack pie.

Although Guarini’s “New Moon” fate is still up in the air, he did say that the folks at the Chop Shop, the film’s music supervisors, have told him they’ve given the song a listen and will let him know if he makes the cut as soon as the decision is made. Guarini said that’s more than enough recognition for now. “I’m just happy they are considering it,” said the TV Guide Channel host, who’s currently working on his third full-length album. “It would be an honor to be on the soundtrack.”

Check out the song he’s proposing in the video below–do you think it fits with the movie at all?
